Chapter 556: An Old Friend ( 1 )

Lin Que knew that she had her answer and said, “Since you don’t trust them, what’s the point of asking? Before we find out what happened back then, it’s better to keep our distance from them.”

Xue Weiyi let out a sigh and replied, “I know.”

“Alright, we still have to wake up early tomorrow and do a mission. Stop thinking about this matter, or you will burn the last brain cell you have,” he said while rubbing her head.

The moment she heard his words, Xue Weiyi slapped his paw away and said, “You are the one with the last brain cell. Your whole family is the one with the last brain cell.”

When he heard this, Lin Que was not angry. Instead, he laughed as he looked at her amusedly. “Yiyi, why are you scolding yourself, hm?”

Xue Weiyi was too lazy to bother with him. So after she gave him a huge roll of her eyes, she ignored him and walked back to their house.

Seeing her walking away angrily, Lin Que quickly followed her while saying, “Yiyi, wait for me!”

As the night deepened, the survivors returned to their residences, and another peaceful day passed.

In the next few days, the Lin’an city base mobilized every worker they had and finally finished the first harvest after more than ten days of hard work.

Due to the large number of crops they harvested, Xun Che went to supervise the process personally.

Taking advantage of the hot weather, they decided to dry the vegetables and rice in preparation for winter. Besides dried vegetables, the base also prepared pickled vegetables to prolong their shelf life.

At this moment, Xun Che was checking the newly built granary to store the grains. He inspected the buildings one by one before nodding in satisfaction.

Turning to the head of the logistics department, he said, “Make sure to check the granaries and warehouses periodically. Keep them dry.”

“Commander, we will check the temperature daily and make sure that the grains are well stored.”

“Good.”

As they walked, the head of the farmland asked, “Commander, with our current harvest, it’s enough for our base to last for several years. Should we convert half of the area used for planting rice to plant vegetables and fruits instead?”

The yield this time was indeed above their expectations. Even if they used part of the harvest as seeds, the amount of grain they had was enough for several years.

But with the winter season coming, he planned to sell their supplies to other bases. So after thinking for a moment, he shook his head. “This amount might be more than enough for our own consumption, but it’s far from enough to support everyone.”

When they heard his words, everyone realized that their commander didn’t plan to consume the grains by themselves but wanted to help other bases. Although they were now facing the apocalypse, it was never a bad idea to have more friends than foes.

If they were able to save more survivors, then they wouldn’t have to worry about having no one to help them if one day they face danger. This was not only saving others but also saving themselves.

With these thoughts, everyone nodded in agreement. The head of the farmland said, “Commander, we will do our best to increase the yield of the crops.”

Xun Che smiled and patted his shoulder. “Thank you for your hard work. Without everyone’s effort, it would be impossible for me to achieve what we have today. In the future, I will still have to rely on everyone.”

Hearing his words, everyone felt that their effort and hard work in these past months were worth it. “Commander, this is what we should do,” they replied in unison.

After sharing some ideas with the staff members, Xun Che left the farmland and returned to his office. Soon after he sat in his seat, his satellite phone rang.

When he saw the number, a smile appeared on his face as he said, “Old Jin, when are you planning to come back?”

“Xun Che, did someone find you in the past few days?” Jin Xuyan’s voice came from the phone.

“No. What’s wrong?” Xun Che asked as he noticed a hint of worry in his voice.

Instead of answering his question, Jin Xuyan said, “Something has come up so my team won’t be back soon. If there is something urgent, just give me a call.”

Even though he didn’t know the situation of the Phantom team, Xun Che didn’t ask and simply said, “Okay.”

At the city center of Zhuji city, Jin Xuyan kept his satellite phone in his pocket and said, “Pack up, we will go to Pingjiang city.”

The members were taken aback by his sudden instruction. Zhang Yuan noticed his captain’s frown and asked, “Captain, what’s wrong?”

“Something happened to our members. We will leave in five minutes.”

As soon as they heard this, they packed up while Jiao Lizhi took out a military chopper from her space. Five minutes later, the military chopper had already left the area and flew toward Pingjiang city.

Sitting in the co-pilot seat, Qin Luzi glanced at Jin Xuyan. Judging from his expression, something might have happened to their spies. Taking out a map, he checked the city closest to Pingjiang city.

After a moment, his eyes flashed with surprise.

There were a total of twenty-seven members who had infiltrated other bases after the apocalypse, but only one member had already become their spy before the apocalypse and currently under a secret mission.

With his finger tapping Jiangning city on the map, he thought, ‘Did something happen to Yuan Ruiyue?’

Under the tense atmosphere, the Phantom team reached Pingjiang city in one and a half hours. The moment they saw the dense zombies below, they were shocked.

At this moment, more than half of the city was filled with zombies. The roars of zombies were deafening as they moved toward the city center.
