Chapter 555: Distrust ( 2 )

While Lin Que lined up to buy their meals, Xue Weiyi took a seat across from her Commander. She looked at her with wide eyes and asked in disbelief, “Commander, you… aren’t you dead?”

Hearing this, Feng Xiu let out a chuckle and said, “I was just in a coma due to my severe injuries. Why did everyone think I was dead?”

Hearing her words, Xue Weiyi frowned deeply. She was sure that her Commander had been dead for several days when she escaped from Yunshan Base.

Other people might believe that she was in a coma, but she was sure that her Commander was dead. After all, the one giving her a bath and changing her clothes after her passing was herself.

She touched her rigid, cold body. She even stayed with her for a whole night to mourn her. So, how could she mistake her death?

Thinking about the shape-shifter, she reached out and grabbed Feng Xiu’s collar. As she pulled down her clothes, she saw the scar left from the mission they did years ago on her shoulder. Looking at the scar, she became more confused.

Sitting back in her seat, she muttered, “How could it be possible? She is clearly dead, but the scar was real.”

Then, she raised her gaze and stared at Rong Qinyu. When she met his cold gaze filled with warning, a chill ran down her spine. This matter must have something to do with this man!

Before she could ask him, Lin Que placed a tray of food in front of her and said, “Eat first.”

Turning her head, she saw him shake his head. She swallowed the words she wanted to say and held back. Whatever happened must be something that couldn’t be discussed here. Reaching this conclusion, she ate in silence while Lin Que chatted with Feng Xiu and Rong Qinyu.

“Commander Feng, are you staying in this Base now?” he asked.

Feng Xiu nodded and replied, “I still have to recuperate and can’t use my ability, so we decided to stay in this Base until I recover. How about you two?”

“We have already registered as permanent residents and are currently recruiting members. For now, our team is taking missions from the base to earn points,” Lin Que said.

“That’s not bad,” Feng Xiu nodded.

After she regained her composure, Xue Weiyi looked at her Commander and said, “Commander, do you plan to rebuild Yunshan Base?”

When she heard this, Feng Xiu went into a long silence before she shook her head. “I had failed to protect our Base and learned my lesson. I might be a good soldier, but I’m not a competent leader.”

Rong Qinyu saw his girlfriend’s clenched fists and reached out. He held her hand and said, “Ah Xiu, this is not your fault. No one could predict what would happen, and no one should be responsible for other people’s decisions or actions.”

Feng Xiu felt the warmth covering her cold hand and nodded. Although she still blamed herself, she no longer felt as bad as when she learned about the downfall of her Base.

They finished their meal in silence, and as they left, Feng Xiu suddenly said, “Weiyi, have you heard any news from Jiang Ziyi?”

Xue Weiyi shook her head and said, “Commander, you should guard against Jiang Ziyi.”

“Weiyi, why do you say so?”

“After you were assassinated, Jiang Ziyi left the Base. No one knew what he was doing or where he went. We thought that he was going out for a mission, but even when our Base was attacked by zombies, he still didn’t come back.”

When she heard this, Rong Qinyu frowned and asked, “Did you doubt that he was involved in Ah Xiu’s assassination?”

“We didn’t have any proof, but from the moment he joined our team, I always felt that he was hiding something from us,” Xue Weiyi said.

Meeting her firm gaze, Feng Xiu recalled her interactions with Jiang Ziyi and his usual behavior. Thinking back, he indeed was gone for a few days once every few months. When she asked where he went, he brushed her off by saying that he went to train his ability.

Seeing how her Commander was frowning, Xue Weiyi knew that it was not easy to convince Feng Xiu. Compared to her, Feng Xiu trusted Jiang Ziyi more. This was also the reason why he had more authority in the Base than her.

After a long silence, Lin Que said, “Commander, we still have something to do, so we will take our leave first.”

When he finished his words, he held Xue Weiyi’s hand and walked away.

Twenty minutes later, she turned to him and asked, “Lin Que, what are you doing? I haven’t asked the Commander what happened to her.”

Reaching out, Lin Que flicked his childhood friend’s forehead and said, “Are you stupid?”

“Hey, who are you calling stupid?” she glared at him.

“Don’t you know if she was dead or not? You are the one who took care of her cold body. Now that she is suddenly alive, don’t you think this is strange?” he asked.

“I know that something is wrong. That’s why I want to ask her.”

“Even if she is willing to tell you, will you trust her words?” he asked again.

This time, Xue Weiyi went silent. Logically speaking, Feng Xiu shouldn’t be with Rong Qinyu. After all, he was the one who killed her. But now that they appeared together as if nothing happened, it was impossible for her to believe their words easily.

All her explanations during the meal were to fish out more information. But after chatting for more than ten minutes, she got nothing. It was as if Feng Xiu didn’t know that she was dead and really believed that she was in a coma.

The only one who knew the truth might be Rong Qinyu. But could she believe him? The answer was an obvious no.
