Pei Yijun was lost in his thoughts after he heard their words. His reason for taking over the Jiangning City Base from his Father’s hand was to improve the living conditions of ordinary people and save more survivors.

To reach this goal, he needed lots of manpower and people’s support. But he didn’t have to limit his team members’ origins only to Jiangning City. Even if his team members were residents of the Lin’an City Base or other places, it would work too.

After he considered the pros and cons, he turned to them and said, “Li Yang, Miaomiao, I need both of you to register as Lin’an Base residents and create a mercenary team.”

Hearing this, both of them were taken aback, and Chu Zhimiao asked, “Brother Pei, are you not taking your Father’s position anymore?”

Pei Yijun shook his head and replied, “I still want the position, but we need a lot of manpower to fight my Father. So, I want you to create a team and recruit members.”

“I will leave the team in your hands. If my Father sees that my team is disbanded, he will lower his guard. By then, it will be easier for me to access more secret information.”

When they heard this, both of them understood his intentions. It was hard for them to expand their power under Pei Xun’s surveillance. If they built their power in Lin’an City, Pei Xun wouldn’t be able to do anything to them.

Without power, Pei Xun would use his son and train him. After all, he only needed an obedient puppet. This way, not only could they build up their own force, but Pei Yijun would also become Pei Xun’s trusted aide and be able to infiltrate his inner circle.

Reaching these conclusions, Chu Zhimiao asked, “Brother Pei, should we invite our members back?”

Li Yang and Chu Zhimiao exchanged glances before they nodded. “Understood.”

After they reached an agreement, Pei Yijun handed the rest of the crystal cores to them and only took some lightning-type crystal cores for an emergency.

When he was done packing, he said, “I will go back to Jiangning. The rest of the matter will have to depend on both of you.”

Li Yang nodded and patted his chest. “Brother Pei, you can leave this matter to us. We won’t let you down.”

Before leaving, he turned to them and added, “Please help me take care of Yixie.”

“We will,” Chu Zhimiao nodded.

At noon, Pei Yijun left the Lin’an City Base and returned to the Jiangning City Base. Due to their business transaction, Wen Hanli prepared a commercial helicopter to send him back. Although the speed was only half that of the military chopper, it was more comfortable.

Not long after Wen Hanli sent Pei Yijun off, he received a report that the ex-members of Pei Yijun’s team had joined their Base as permanent residents.

Some of them joined the training camp to enlist as guards, while the rest hired a mercenary team to escort their family members from Jiangning City. When his gaze landed on Li Yang and Chu Zhimiao’s names, he raised his eyebrows and rubbed his chin.

“Pei Yijun, what are you planning?” he muttered to himself.

Since he didn’t know about Pei Yijun’s plan, he made a phone call to his subordinate and said, “Keep an eye on Li Yang and Chu Zhimiao.”

“Understood.”

After he sent someone to watch them, he put this matter to the back of his mind. The Base was still in full swing, harvesting its crops. As this was the first harvest since they built the hydroponic farmland, everyone’s focus was on this matter.

While the residents were having a busy day, in the distant coastline area, the sound of a siren blaring echoed throughout the entire area of the nuclear power plant.

After being left unattended for more than four months, the nuclear reactor automatically shut down and the emergency generators were turned on.

But without continuous maintenance, the cooling system finally failed. The failure of the cooling system led to the spent fuel evaporating and a meltdown, eventually causing radioactive leaks.

With the increase in temperature, the hydrogen gas built up and triggered the explosion warnings. The siren lasted for half an hour before explosions occurred in several areas.

The explosions shook the ground and exposed the area to radioactive waste. Following the event, the radiation level in the coastline area increased by several levels, making the area uninhabitable.

At this moment, a large group of people was escaping the radiation frantically. Those who were luckier managed to escape before the explosions, while those who were late to escape were either killed by the explosion force or died from radiation.

Inside one of the minivans, a family of nine turned their heads and saw the fire burning fiercely. From afar, it looked like a massive bonfire. Their backs were drenched in cold sweat as they watched the situation with horror.

When they were no longer able to see the fire, a middle-aged woman patted her chest and said, “Fortunately, Ah Jiang has good hearing and was able to hear the alarm. Otherwise, we might not have made it out alive.”

Driving the car, a young man replied, “Mother, this area is no longer habitable. We have to move to another city.”

Hearing this, the family members felt depressed. While the situation in their hometown was not as good as in other places, they were still reluctant to leave.
