Chapter 552: Leaving The Team

The members took several steps back while Su Ruanyi stood at the edge. Raising her hands, she used her energy to control the broken pieces of the road and used them to fix the bridge.

Standing behind her, one of the members clicked his tongue and said, “She just awakened her ability not long ago, but her control over it has already improved so much.”

“I heard that she joined the ordinary people to fix the wall and always returned exhausted. I don’t know what she was thinking. Rather than fixing the wall, it’s better to do missions outside. We can earn more crystal cores,” another member said, shaking his head.

When he heard this, Yuan Ruiyue glanced at them but said nothing. Out of these nine people, he only planned to keep two and let them join the Phantom Team. The rest would be handed over to Xun Che later.

After twenty minutes, Su Ruanyi wiped the sweat from her forehead and said, “Captain, it’s done.”

Yuan Ruiyue walked over to check the result. Although it took her a while to repair the broken bridge, the outcome was not bad.

It seemed that letting her join the worker team had been worth it. Her energy pool had increased by at least twenty percent, and her control over her ability was much better than before.

Nodding, he said, “Well done.”

Su Ruanyi was delighted to be praised by her Captain. Before the team departed, she quickly took out two flatbreads and a bottle of water from her backpack and handed them to Yuan Ruiyue.

“Captain, you haven’t eaten anything since last night. You should eat something,” she said.

While he looked indifferent, it was only his facade as a spy. So when he met her gaze, he still accepted the food and water. “Thank you.”

Seeing that he didn’t refuse, Su Ruanyi grinned and returned to her car happily.

As they drove toward Lin’an City, Pei Yijun and his team members were having a meeting at the Lin’an City Base. At this moment, they were sitting in the living room of the residence provided by the Base to host the guests.

Looking at his team members, Pei Yijun asked, “Have all of you made up your minds?”

One of the members nodded and replied, “Captain, I am thankful for your help all this time. I thought that the living conditions in Jiangning Base were the best I could provide for my family.”

After a moment of pause, he continued, “But after I came here, I realized that the life here was what I wanted for my family. I will remember your kindness, and whenever you need my help, I won’t hesitate to help you.”

“Captain, I’m sorry for leaving the Team. But I only want to let my family have a better life. I hope you can understand,” he added.

After he finished his words, the rest of the members nodded in agreement. Compared to the ordinary people, they were indeed having a good life in the Jiangning City Base.

But even if they were ability-users, not all of their family members were. Most of them were ordinary people and had no job at all. With the family dependent only on their income, it was barely enough to fill their stomachs.

So, when they came to the Lin’an City Base and saw that even ordinary people could have jobs and live a good life here, their hearts were moved. They wanted to bring their family members over and become permanent residents.

Meeting their determined gazes, Pei Yijun already knew the answer. He nodded and turned to Li Yang and Chu Zhimiao. “How about you two?” he asked.

Unlike the rest of the members, the moment they were asked, both Li Yang and Chu Zhimiao replied without hesitation, “Brother Pei, we won’t leave the Team.”

Hearing this, Pei Yijun smiled and said, “Very well.”

Since his members had already decided to leave, Pei Yijun went to get his backpack. He poured out the crystal cores and said, “These are the crystal cores our Team earned from selling the items to the Base.”

“Although we had agreed that these were for our Team, everyone needs points to buy houses or supplies here. So, I will divide half of the crystal cores equally among everyone. The rest will be for the Team’s expenses.”

The moment the members heard this, their eyes lit up. They never thought that the Captain would give them crystal cores. After all, they only gave ten percent of their earnings to the Team as a fee, so logically speaking, Pei Yijun didn’t have to give them anything.

While they were still feeling happy for receiving sudden income, Pei Yijun had already counted the crystal cores and divided them equally. He gave each of them fifty level-one crystal cores and said, “I wish all of you the best.”

The members accepted the crystal cores and replied in unison, “Thank you, Captain!”

Since they had to go pick up their family members, they left afterward. When they were alone, Li Yang patted Pei Yijun’s shoulder and said, “Brother Pei, it’s alright. We can recruit more people later.”

Hearing this, Pei Yijun smiled and said, “It’s not easy to recruit ability-users.”

Chu Zhimiao hesitated for a moment before she said, “Brother Pei, there is no regulation that a mercenary team needs at least five members in our Base. Since that’s the case, we can just take our time recruiting.”

“I think that rather than depend on numbers, it’s better to get strong members instead. I gathered some information about the mercenary teams in this Base. While the number of members was not high, each of them was strong. Even with only seven people, a D-rank Team was able to complete a B-rank mission.”

“Brother Pei, I also saw that a lot of ability-users were looking for a Team so they could take missions issued by the Base. How about we try recruiting them?” Li Yang suddenly asked.
