Chapter 547: Second-rate Imitation ( 1 )

While Pei Xun was contacting his other spies, Yuan Ruiyue went to his office and uploaded all the data in the database onto a USB drive.

When he was done, he opened the hidden safe in the wall. Taking out a small box and a backpack full of crystal cores, he closed the safe and left his office.

Since he was the Base Commander’s right-hand man, no one stopped him when he left the base with his team.

As the armored cars drove past the entrance, one of the guards stopped them and said, “Captain Yuan, a group of mutant plants was found on the west border. It’s better to avoid that area.”

Yuan Ruiyue nodded and glanced at his subordinate. Receiving his Captain’s meaning, the man took out a box of protein bars from his space and handed it to the guard.

Receiving an unexpected reward, the guard was delighted and quickly ordered his men to remove the barricades and let them pass.

Ten minutes later, Yuan Ruiyue and his group had already left the safe perimeter of the Jiangning City Base. Sitting in the passenger seat, the young man glanced at him through the rearview mirror.

After hesitating for a while, he finally gathered his courage and asked, “Captain, why did you decide to leave so suddenly?”

Hearing this, Yuan Ruiyue raised his gaze and replied, “Don’t ask things you shouldn’t ask.”

Facing his Captain’s cold gaze, the young man no longer dared to ask and decided to stay quiet. While he admired his Captain and owed him a life-saving grace, he was still scared of him.

Noticing the heavy atmosphere, a woman sitting beside Yuan Ruiyue glanced at him and said, “Captain, Ah Shen didn’t mean to offend you. Please don’t be angry, okay?”

When Yuan Ruiyue heard her soft, sticky voice, he didn’t bother to give her a glance, let alone reply to her.

The woman felt disappointed by his indifference but didn’t dwell on it too much. After all, everyone in the base knew that Yuan Ruiyue was ruthless and cold toward everyone.

While his team members were sitting on pins and needles, Yuan Ruiyue was lost in thought. Considering the importance of this matter, if he applied for a military chopper, Pei Xun would grant him permission to use it.

But the military choppers owned by the Jiangning City Base had been planted with trackers. If they used one, it would be hard for him to execute his plan. To make sure he could retreat safely, he could only use the armored cars.

He glanced at his team members and narrowed his eyes. Out of twelve members, three were spies planted by Pei Xun, while the rest were people he had personally recruited.

Narrowing his eyes, he made up his mind to remove the spies after they left Jiangning City.

The woman sitting beside him suddenly shivered and rubbed the back of her neck. She didn’t know why, but for some unknown reason, she felt a chill run down her spine.

Meanwhile, at the Lin’an City Base, Xun Che and Wen Hanli were in the middle of a meeting when a guard knocked on the door.

“Come in.”

The guard opened the door and entered the meeting room in large strides. After giving them a salute, he said, “Commander Xun, there are two ability-users requesting to meet you. One of them is the wanted criminal, Rong Qinyu.”

The moment the guard said this, Xun Che’s eyes turned cold as he said, “Bring them over.”

The guard saluted and left the room. Not long after, he returned with Rong Qinyu and Feng Xiu. As for Da Xiong and Xiao Xiong, both of them decided to have a meal instead of accompanying them to visit the Base’s Commander.

At first, Xun Che and Wen Hanli were ready for a fight. After all, Rong Qinyu was the assassin who had killed the Commander of Yunshan Base. But when their gaze landed on the woman walking beside him, their eyes widened in shock.

Due to his sudden movement, the sound of the chair scraping against the floor echoed in the meeting room. Xun Che stared at Feng Xiu for a while before he said, “You are still alive.”

Feng Xiu smiled and replied, “Well, thankfully, I made it out alive.”

Wen Hanli snapped back to his senses at her words and asked, “Commander Feng, what’s going on? Didn’t you die from severe injuries after the assassination?”

Hearing his question, Feng Xiu was not offended. She understood their doubts and confusion. After all, even she couldn’t believe that she was still alive.

She walked over to the couch and sat down before replying, “It’s all thanks to my boyfriend that I’m able to survive.”

When they heard this, both Xun Che and Wen Hanli looked at Rong Qinyu. The moment they met his sharp gaze, they felt that he was different from the last time they saw him.

This was not the first time Rong Qinyu had seen them.

When he had gotten together with his girlfriend back then, she had told him about her history with Xun Che. So, he had insisted on visiting her in the barracks before and had seen Xun Che and Wen Hanli.

Now that they finally met, he couldn’t bring himself to give Xun Che a good face. He took a seat beside his girlfriend and said, “Ah Xiu is my girlfriend. This is the least I can do.”

Wen Hanli raised his eyebrows when he noticed the emphasis on the word girlfriend.

The last time they met, while Rong Qinyu had treated Feng Xiu gently and affectionately, it had felt cold and calculating. But today, he finally showed the normal reaction a boyfriend should have when meeting his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend.

If he could sense it, so could Xun Che. Since the guests already treated this place as their own, as the host, he wouldn’t be polite with them.

Taking a seat across from them, he asked, “Feng Xiu, what’s going on?”
