Chapter 535: Old Acquaintances ( 1 )
After hearing Da Xiong’s words, Rong Qinyu said, “With our supplies and the food in this cellar, we should be able to hold on for at least two weeks. The mutant wolves will leave if they can’t find us in the next few days.”
“Even as ability-users, without water, at most we can only hold on for five days,” Xiao Xiong added.
Hearing this, Feng Xiu glanced at their team’s water and said, “If we use it sparingly, our water should be enough for three to four days. The mutant wolves should have left by then.”
Da Xiong and Xiao Xiong exchanged glances before they nodded. Right now, they had no other option. Except for the four of them, the rest of the members were killed by the mutant wolves.
With their current strength, they were able to go against one mutant wolf. But the wolf was an animal that traveled in a pack. By bad luck, they met with a huge pack of wolves.
Not to mention the wolf leader, even the pack members were five times bigger, faster, and stronger than normal wolves. Adding their high tacit understanding and teamwork, the wolves were able to take them down as easily as chopping cabbages.
If not for Feng Xiu using every bit of her energy to block the attack, they would not have been able to escape at all. Therefore, even though Da Xiong and Xiao Xiong knew how dangerous the situation was, they had no intention of abandoning the team.
Due to overusing her energy, Feng Xiu was experiencing a severe headache and weakness. Her entire body felt so limp that even breathing felt like an arduous task for her.
Rong Qinyu stared at his girlfriend’s pale face and said, “Ah Xiu, you should absorb some crystal cores to replenish your energy.”
Feng Xiu shook her head and said weakly, “I only need to rest for a while, no need to waste the crystal cores. We will need them to buy supplies later.”
After hesitating for a while, Rong Qinyu finally nodded and said, “Okay. Then you take a rest first.”
Feng Xiu was tired, and after responding with a soft “hum,” she fell into a deep sleep.
Five hours later, the sun had slanted to the western horizon and several armored vehicles were seen driving toward the village.
Inside one of the cars, Qin Luzi saw more than thirty yellow dots among the red dots in his map. It was almost sunset and they had to find a place to stay the night.
If they passed this small village, the next resting place would take them five hours of driving. While his team had no problem fighting zombies during the night, if it could be avoided, it was better to avoid it.
After he considered the pros and cons, Qin Luzi used his walkie-talkie and informed the team.
“Captain, there is a small village two kilometers away from our current location. But there are more than thirty mutant animals inside the village and around five hundred zombies surrounding it.”
Not long after, Jin Xuyan replied through the walkie-talkie, “Clear the zombies in the surrounding areas and gather at fifty meters from the village entrance.”
“Understood,” the members replied.
Since the zombies were scattered around the village, the team divided into smaller groups and went in different directions separately.
The zombies in the area were newly mutated, so most of them were normal zombies with only several level-one zombies. In less than twenty minutes, the Phantom Team finished clearing out the zombies and gathered at the village entrance.
Just after Jiao Lizhi stored their armored vehicles in her space, they heard a long howl of a wolf from a distance.
“Captain, it’s a pack of mutant wolves. The total of the wolves is thirty-seven, including the leader. Their strength should be equal to level-two zombies. As for the leader, its strength should be similar to a level-four zombie,” Qin Luzi said while checking his map.
On his map, the size of the yellow dots was similar to the size of level-two zombies. Out of the yellow dots, only one had a larger size.
Jin Xuyan nodded after hearing Qin Luzi’s report. The number of mutant wolves doubled the number of his team members.
If they faced the mutant wolves head-on, they might be able to kill the pack. But wolves were known for their ferocity and teamwork. Even if they won, it would be hard to avoid injuries.
He thought for a while before his gaze landed on Mo Junjie. After considering the pros and cons, he said, “Junjie, you will go with me and Old Qin to scout the situation.”
Being called out suddenly, Mo Junjie was surprised. Usually, his presence in the team was low and most of the time, he only needed to do some fighting on the back and reap the benefits.
He wanted to refuse to do the extra work, but since the Captain already called him out, he could only nod and follow Jin Xuyan.
Before leaving, Jin Xuyan turned to Zhang Yuan and said, “Old Zhang, all of you will wait for our signal.”
“Understood,” Zhang Yuan nodded.
When he finished speaking, Jin Xuyan glanced at his fiancée for a brief moment before he entered the village. Qin Luzi and Mo Junjie followed him closely. Under the glow of sunset, the three of them disappeared into the village.
Qin Luzi checked his map and said, “Captain, there are four ability-users inside the house six hundred meters away from us.”
Jin Xuyan nodded and gestured for them to hide on the rooftop when he saw the mutant wolves in the distance. The three of them lay on the rooftop as they observed the situation.
The mutant wolves wandered around the village in groups of two to three. It would be hard to go undetected by them. After a moment, Jin Xuyan turned to Mo Junjie and asked, “Junjie, how many wolves can you knock out at once with your ability?”
