Chapter 534: Surrounded ( 1 )

After Jin Xuyan and Jiao Lizhi arrived at the Phantom Team’s residence, they made a phone call to inform the members. Since the members did not take any missions, they arrived one after another.

At eleven o’clock in the morning, all of the members gathered in the living room.

This was the first time for Chen Wenwu to do a mission with his team. Besides feeling excited, he was also feeling worried. What if he made a mistake during a mission and put his team in danger?

Noticing his anxiety, Xiao Qi patted his back and assured him, “Don’t worry, Wenwu. With the Captain and Sister-in-law with us, nothing will happen.”

Even though he did not know how strong the Captain and his fiancée were, Chen Wenwu trusted Xiao Qi’s words and nodded.

After everyone took their seats, Jin Xuyan said, “Everyone, today I gathered all of you to inform you that we will be leaving the base and going to Zhuji City in an hour.”

“Captain, did we receive another mission?” Zhang Yuan asked.

Jin Xuyan shook his head and replied, “This time, we are going to get machines to refill the oxygen tank and carbon dioxide cartridge.”

After a moment of pause, he continued, “I heard from Old Qin that our team should get the machines before the second rain. But due to some matters, it has been delayed until now. As long as we get the machines, we can sell airguns to the survivors and offer services to refill the cartridge.”

When the members heard this, they nodded in agreement.

Although their shop sold weapons at a low price, not all people could use the weapons or have the courage to kill zombies in close combat. Unlike cold weapons, airguns could be used to kill zombies from a distance.

If they were able to provide more airguns, then the survival rate of the residents when they went out would improve. Besides that, even ordinary people would be able to go out to kill zombies and collect supplies.

Seeing that no one had any objection, Jin Xuyan said, “Go back and prepare. We will gather at the North Gate in forty minutes.”

“Understood,” the members replied in unison.

After they left, Jiao Lizhi and Jin Xuyan returned to their house. Besides changing their casual clothes into combat clothes, they also checked their weapons and prepared some emergency supplies.

When they were done, Jiao Lizhi divided the crystal cores according to the type and level. Then, she prepared five hundred level-one crystal cores for each member.

Each of them would receive one hundred elemental crystal cores according to the type of their abilities, and four hundred transparent crystal cores. Besides the level-one crystal cores, she also gave them fifty level-two elemental crystal cores for emergency use.

Half an hour later, the two of them drove an armored car and went to the North Gate. When they arrived, the members were already waiting for them.

Seeing them coming, the guards saluted and greeted them, “Captain Jin, Comrade Jiao.”

Jiao Lizhi nodded at them and took out two bags of cucumbers from her space. Each bag weighed fifteen kilograms. She handed the bags to the nearby guard and said, “The weather is getting hotter recently. Share these with the brothers.”

The guards thought that she gave them some snacks. But the moment they saw fresh cucumbers in the bags, they were stunned.

Everyone knew that the base was harvesting the vegetables and crops. But the price of fresh vegetables was expensive. One kilogram of lettuce cost them fifty points.

Thinking about the sky-high price, they wanted to refuse. But when they saw how fresh the cucumbers were, they could not help but salivate. Having a bite of crunchy, juicy cucumber must be very satisfying in this sweltering hot weather.

Noticing their hesitation, Jiao Lizhi said, “I did not spend any points. The Commander gave some to me as a bonus. You all can have it with ease.”

Hearing this, the guards stopped hesitating and thanked her. The news of her providing lots of water spread internally, and most of the guards knew about it. If the Commander gave her fresh vegetables as a bonus, it was understandable.

After she filled the water tank near the tent, Jiao Lizhi entered the tent and saw the members waiting inside.

She took a seat and said, “This time, everyone will receive one hundred level-one elemental crystal cores according to your ability, four hundred level-one transparent crystal cores, and fifty level-two elemental crystal cores.”

When she finished her words, she waved her hand and took out the crystal cores. The crystal cores were placed inside boxes labeled with the members’ names on them.

Already used to this procedure, the members stored the crystal cores into their own pouches and returned the boxes to her. After she stored the empty boxes, the team finally departed in several armored vehicles.

The survivors who were lining up outside the gate watched them with complicated gazes. But above all emotions, they found hope in this place.

Meanwhile, in a small village between Zhuji City and Lin’an City, a group of people were hiding in an underground cellar.

The underground cellar was built using mud and river stone. With the door locked and blocked using planks, there were only two small windows serving as ventilation.

One of the men stood on top of a wooden box and peeked out the windows. While the windows were located only several centimeters above the ground outside, he was still able to see a group of mutant wolves wandering outside.

Fortunately, they found this underground cellar and managed to hide their scents using the zombie’s blood. Otherwise, they would have been eaten by the mutant wolves by now.

After he observed them for a while, he walked to the corner and sat down beside his teammate.

He looked at his team leader and said, “Qinyu, the mutant wolves are still wandering outside. It seems that they won’t leave until they catch us.”
