Chapter 451: Space Distortion ( 9 )
Hearing his words, Xue Weiyi bit her lips and closed her eyes. She didn’t want to engage in childish bickering with him. It was better to rest and recover her energy.
The guards exchanged awkward glances for a moment before the pilot asked, “Captain Lin, where should we go now?”
Lin Que stared at the sea of zombies below them and replied, “Lin’an City Base.”
Two hours later, they finally reached the Lin’an City Base. From the sky, all they could see was a sea of black below. As they flew closer to the base, they felt a chill run down their spines. The zombies were like moths flying toward the fire without fear or hesitation.
Colorful lights flashed as the ability-users launched their attacks, followed by explosions that killed the zombies attacking the base, while the guards continued firing their rifles and cannons.
Unlike the Yunshan City Base, the situation in the Lin’an City Base was much better. Despite being attacked from all directions, they could see that the defense was organized and orderly.
The guards and ability-users would take turns to rest, while the nurses and ordinary people would carry the wounded to the temporary infirmary for treatment.
At the same time, women and children would send water and food to the guards and ability-users who were resting under the wall.
As the helicopter flew toward the base, Gu Shaoze noticed them and used his water ability to create a sentence, ‘Go to the military field on the third ring.’
The message was short and clear. After reading it, the pilot checked the base and continued flying toward the third ring.
After they passed the fourth wall, they realized that despite the intense battle on the outer wall, the situation inside the base was calm, even though the people were busy moving supplies and carrying wounded people.
Five minutes later, the chopper finally landed on the military training ground and turned off the engine. As soon as they walked out of the chopper, a soldier approached them.
After giving them a salute, he said, “Comrades, please follow me. Commander Xun Che wishes to meet you.”
Xue Weiyi nodded and said, “Please lead the way.”
Although they did not know what Xun Che wanted, since they had come to seek refuge, they still had to pay a visit. With this thought, they followed the soldier and went to the meeting hall in the military training ground.
They thought that Xun Che would be in his office handling documents. Unexpectedly, he was in the middle of discussing the base’s defense with the leaders.
After they were led into the meeting room, Xun Che only glanced at them briefly before turning his gaze to the map spread in the middle of the oval-shaped table while saying, “Since you are here, join our meeting.”
Xue Weiyi was taken aback when she heard his casual tone. Before she could reply, she saw Lin Que walk over and say, “The Yunshan City Base has fallen. How is the situation in your base?”
“We are still able to hold on. Did you manage to evacuate the survivors?” Xun Che asked.
Lin Que looked at the map and saw the red cross on the Yunshan City and knew that the red crosses on the map marked the fallen bases and survivor camps.
After a moment of silence, he said, “We were only able to evacuate thirty percent of the total residents. The rest were killed or mutated. We sent them to your base, have they arrived?”
Xun Che shook his head and said, “With the current weather, the chance for them to survive the flight was only five percent. You are very lucky.”
Hearing this, Lin Que replied, “It is because I have a good pilot.”
When everyone heard their conversation, they realized that the two of them were familiar with each other and might already have been in contact before the second rain.
After a moment of hesitation, Xue Weiyi finally asked, “Lin Que, you know Commander Xun?”
Turning to her, Lin Que nodded and replied, “You met him on your eighteenth birthday.”
Recalling the vague memories in her mind, Xue Weiyi’s eyes widened as she said, “He was the one you brought back home?”
“Long time no see, Xiao Xue,” Xun Che greeted her with a nod.
Xue Weiyi nodded and replied, “Brother Xun, long time no see.”
“Since you are here, take a two-hour break and register your names at the mission hall. We need all the ability-users we can get to help defend the base. As for the ordinary people, none of you are allowed to come in contact with the rain,” Xun Che said.
After he said this, Lin Que nodded and said, “Okay.”
Everyone understood that the two-hour time limit was not out of consideration for their fatigue but to make sure that they were not mutating.
As they had guessed, they were led into a separate building where they were locked in a room. Although the door was locked, they were provided with clean clothes, food, and water. There was even a bed inside for them to take a nap.
The guards understood that this was a necessary precaution and did not raise any objection. After they took a shower and changed into clean clothes, they finished the food prepared by the base and went to sleep.
“Roar!”
Bang!
An hour later, they suddenly heard the roar of zombies coming from the other rooms, followed by the sound of gunfire. They were startled and could not fall asleep anymore. Lying on the bed, they stared at the ceiling while their minds wandered.
The situation worsened as more and more bases and survivor camps fell under the zombies’ attacks. While some of them managed to escape and reach the Lin’an City Base, most of them were unable to survive and died under the zombies’ claws or became one of them.
Under the tense situation, another ten days passed in the blink of an eye.
While the zombies were attacking human bases across the world, plants and animals were slowly mutating under the baptism of the rain.
