Chapter 446: Space Distortion ( 4 )

Xun Che stayed in the meeting room for half an hour. When he walked out of the room, he had already returned to normal as if nothing had happened. If not for the hint of bloodshot in his eyes and how pale his lips were, no one would notice his emotions at all.

When he saw that his Commander had finally come out, Wen Hanli let out a silent sigh. Besides Xun Che and Feng Xiu, only he knew that the two of them had been in a relationship during their university days.

Even after they had broken up for so many years, he was still unable to move on. Now, receiving the news about her death, it was normal for him to feel heartbroken.

Noticing Wen Hanli’s gaze, Xun Che took a deep breath before he said, “No need to look at me like that, I’m fine.”

Hearing this, Wen Hanli nodded and said, “Commander, the Phantom Team sent a message. They are on their way back. But due to the bad weather, they are using the cars instead of the choppers.”

“Did they say how long it would take for them to return?” Xun Che asked.

Shaking his head, Wen Hanli replied, “Captain Jin said that it might take two weeks or longer, depending on the situation.”

When he heard this, Xun Che frowned for a while before he said, “We can’t depend on them forever. Keep an eye on the zombies’ movement. I have a bad feeling about this rain.”

“Understood.”

After the brief conversation, the two of them returned to their offices and got busy with their work.

At the same time, the survivors who were forced to stay inside their homes were feeling uneasy and irritated. Even though the base still provided them with water and food every day, their situation was no different from house confinement.

If they wanted to leave their houses, they had to submit a request. Only after they got permission would they be able to go out, and that was also with a guard following them.

This situation continued for several days until ten days after the second rain, a commotion suddenly broke out in the infirmary area.

“Roar!!”

“Ahh! Why are there zombies inside the base?!”

“Guards! Where is the guard?”

Crash!

“Akh! S-save me…”

The zombies rushed over and bit off the nearest survivor’s neck. As the warm, fresh blood spurted out from the wound and stained the ground, the zombies let out an excited roar and started eating the flesh and organs.

Seeing this, the survivors ran for their lives while more and more zombies appeared, attracted by the loud sounds.

“Commander, zombies have broken into our base!” a soldier said as he entered Xun Che’s office.

Hearing this, Xun Che stood up and said, “Send the guards to control the situation.”

“Commander, the zombies are too strong and fast. Our weapons can’t kill them at all,” the soldier replied.

When he heard this, Xun Che frowned and said, “Inform all of the mercenary teams and ability-users in our base to clean up the zombies as soon as possible. They will be rewarded according to their contributions.”

“Understood,” the soldier nodded and went out to the mission hall.

Fifteen minutes later, the mission hall used the radio transmission to announce the mission to the entire base.

“Attention to all residents, zombies were found inside the base. Ability-users are required to join the guards to clean out the zombies. Everyone will be rewarded according to their contributions. As for commoners, please stay in your homes and lock the doors and windows. Please keep yourself and your loved ones safe.”

As the announcement was repeated several times, the survivors finally learned about the situation. Unfortunately, the situation was already out of control.

The people who had been lying sickly in bed just a moment ago suddenly opened their eyes and lunged at the nearby people. Their eyes had turned white, and their nails were long and black while their bodies only showed some signs of rigor mortis.

Due to the sudden change of situation, many people were caught off guard and killed by the zombies. With more and more casualties, the infection spread at a frightening speed.

Wush~ Boom!

Near the south entrance, a group of soldiers were fighting against a group of zombies. Unlike the zombies before the second rain, these zombies were much stronger and more agile. Normal weapons are no longer able to kill them.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The soldiers continued firing their guns at the zombies, but most of their shots missed the targets. Even with the ability-users’ help, they could barely hold on.

“Roar!!”

A zombie let out a roar before it swung its hands, sending large stones floating in mid-air.

Seeing this, Xie Zhou said, “Everyone, be careful, it’s a mutated zombie!”

As soon as he said this, the zombie swung its hands and a huge boulder and large stones flew from the roadside toward him. Seeing the incoming attack, he pulled out his double swords and slashed the boulder.

Crack! BOOM!

The boulder was split in half by his attack and flew to the sides, crushing zombies, while the large stones were blocked by the wind shield around his body.

“Roar!”

The zombie let out another roar and rushed toward him. Both of its hands were covered with a layer of stone, making them look like a hulk. As it rushed toward Xie Zhou, the zombie raised both of its hands and clasped them together.

Clang! Crack! Boom!

The collision between the zombie’s fists and Xie Zhou’s swords created waves of energy spreading to the surroundings. As the wind rose, the dust and debris flew, creating a thick cloud that obstructed everyone’s vision.

When the soldiers and ability-users saw this, their eyes filled with sorrow and anger. While everyone thought that Xie Zhou had been crushed under the zombie’s fists, a tornado suddenly appeared, sweeping the zombie into the air.

Standing in the center of the tornado, Xie Zhou bent his knees and leaped into it. The next moment, he appeared behind the zombie and swung his swords.

Crack! Duagh!
