Chapter 1155: A Halberd Trasif
The Trasif swung her halberd in an elegant arc before looking out at the crowd, “Is there anyone stronger who wishes to challenge me? The challenge fee is one Crea and if you win, you will be paid back five Creas.”
The crowd all looked at each other but no one stepped forward.
Odeta gave me a nudge with her arm and I slipped a small Bronze Coin into her palm which she received gratefully and skipped towards the Trasif.
“I accept your challenge!” She bellowed, thumping her chest proudly.
The people nearest to her jumped at her sudden shout, surprised by the giant Amrap that suddenly appeared behind them.
The Trasif took a look at Odeta and nodded, “Do you know the rules?”
“Wahahaha! Nope! Do tell me!”
The Trasif gestured at herself, “You will spar with me and you can use any weapons you are comfortable with. You will, however, need to pay a single Crea to spar with me and if you lose, I keep the Crea and if you win, you get five Creas back. Is there anything you’re not clear about?”
Odeta flicked the coin I gave her which the Trasif caught out of the air without hesitation.
She then punched her fists together, “No! Let’s fight!”
I cleared my throat, “I do have a question though… How do we determine the winner?”
Trasif didn’t even look in my direction as she answered, “The first one to admit defeat will be declared the loser. The first one to draw blood will also be declared the winner. So what weapon will you use?”
Odeta waved her fists at her, “I shall fight with these!”
To her credit, the halberd wielding Trasif didn’t look surprised and merely tilted her head slightly, “Could I ask if you mainly fight with your fists?”
“Yes! No need to hold back against me!”
“Hmm… Very well then. Step into the circle and we shall begin.”
Odeta jumped in before looking at the crowd around them.
She frowned slightly and did a shooing motion, “You guys are too close! Step back a few more steps!”
The crowd looked a little unsure of this and a few even whispered that Odeta was overestimating herself.
Amongst them, there were already some shouts about people placing bets with most of the crowd betting on the Trasif.
I considered placing a bet myself but decided against doing so in the end since this can still go either way.
Odeta huffed, “If you don’t step back, then don’t blame me if you get crushed or something.”
Please don’t kill anyone, Odeta… We already talked about this just now…
Odeta turned to face the Trasif who had already adopted a combat stance with the blade of her halberd lowered near the ground, as if she was preparing to swing it upwards in a diagonal slash.
“I am ready whenever you are, miss challenger. Let’s have a good spar.”
Odeta also lowered herself into a combat stance with her fists clenched, “Let’s…”
The aura around Odeta shifted and I could tell she was now in her fight mode.
Without warning, she kicked the ground, leaping towards the Trasif in a burst of speed.
The people who had been unfortunate enough to stand behind her ended up flying back because of the shockwave of her kicking the ground.
Had they listened to Odeta’s instruction on taking a few steps back, that wouldn’t have happened.
Too bad for them, but at least now the crowd actually took a few steps back to avoid that from happening again.
Odeta appeared above the Trasif, her right fist poised to strike at her and it looked like that would be the end.
But the Trasif reacted with surprising speed as she swung her halberd back instead, causing the butt end of her weapon to swing towards my Amrap.
I thought she was attempting to block the punch which would have most likely shattered her weapon but she seemed to know that Odeta was stronger than her physically so she struck her weapon against Odeta’s wrist instead.
With a push and twist of her body, she managed to redirect Odeta’s punch to the side of her to avoid it.
Odeta recovered quickly as she was already throwing another punch with her other fist while her feet were still landing on the ground.
Even if she didn’t put her full force behind that punch, it would have still hurt a normal person if that were to land.
The Trasif held the pole of her weapon in front of her to intercept the blow but she also kicked off the ground to leap backwards at the same time.
The force of Odeta’s punch sent her flying back though she managed to absorb it and took no damage.
But that didn’t change the fact that she was now airborne and flying towards the crowd.
I got ready to catch her in case she crashed into the innocent bystanders but she suddenly stabbed her halberd into the ground, slamming it down to change the trajectory of her flight upwards instead.
She made use of that momentum to spin around before swinging her halberd down towards Odeta, making full use of her weapon’s reach to her advantage.
Odeta was forced to leap back to avoid the axe part of the halberd slicing through the space she had been just a moment ago but the Trasif’s attack was not done.
The moment her feet touched the ground again, she took a step forward and thrust her weapon towards Odeta, the spear tip on her weapon aiming for her chest.
Odeta did not panic and tried to grab the handle to stop it instead.
But it turned out that the thrust was a feint as she suddenly twisted her polearm before pulling it back.
That motion would have nicked Odeta’s arm had she not reacted fast enough by pulling her arms back, the bladed part of the halberd cutting through the air where her arms had been just a moment ago.
The Trasif frowned slightly, probably believing that would have ended the fight only to realise that her plan had failed.
This time, she went on the offensive and spun towards Odeta, swinging her halberd around her to slash at her feet.
Odeta reacted by lifting her foot up before suddenly stomping down on the halberd, forcing it to be slammed onto the ground.
With the weapon stuck under her foot, that meant the Trasif was also stuck unless she chose to let go of her weapon.
Odeta obviously knew this as she leaned forward to attempt another punch at the Trasif.
Unexpectedly, the Trasif managed to bend her body a perfect ninety degree backwards at the waist, letting Odeta’s punch sail right above her and the pole part of her halberd.
She then made use of that position by pushing the pole of her halberd against Odeta’s arm, using it as a lever to shove my Amrap off her weapon.
She did not stop there as she made use of that momentum to do another spin to swing her halberd up again, this time aiming to deliver a slash towards Odeta’s neck.
I believe she was planning to stop the weapon right before she actually decapitates my Amrap but even if she had planned to do that, it wasn’t a problem as Odeta immediately turned to react to the attack.
She lifted her arm and delivered a backhand blow against the halberd’s pole, though only using just enough force to have it bounce away slightly.
She then quickly flipped her arm to grab the pole before pulling it towards her, forcing the Trasif to fly forward from the action before she could release it to stop herself.
Odeta held the halberd under her arm before swinging her other fist in an uppercut towards the Trasif’s chin, stopping right before the fist connected with the Trasif.
She had swung it so fast that a small burst of wind was generated and the Trasif’s long hair ended up getting billowed by the gust.
The Trasif froze up and the entire crowd also fell into silence, all of them needing a moment to register what happened.
The Trasif’s gaze slowly shifted downwards and her lips curled up into a smile as she saw the fist under her chin, “I admit defeat.”
The sound of groans came from all the losers that had bet on Odeta losing and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride after seeing Odeta win.
That’s right! That’s my Amrap! That’s my girl! You see that?! She’s the best!
Odeta grinned and released her grip on the weapon before stepping back and sticking out her hand, “Wahahaha! That was a good fight! You almost had me with that feint there!”
The Trasif shook Odeta’s hand, “Indeed. I suppose I still have lots to learn. And here are your winnings, five Creas as promised.”
“Wahahaha! I wouldn’t mind if you just returned the money I paid you for the challenge!”
The Trasif shook her head, “No, no. I insist. I am a man of my word after all.”
…
…
I’m sorry… Man?
