Capítulo 750: Looks Like A Heist Gone Wrong

The police not only cuffed the guy but also put a collar around his neck, which Amber very helpfully told me that it would prevent the guy from using any combat cybernetic mods if that guy had any.

Apparently in this universe, it’s not only necessary for people to be handcuffed, they would also have to be collared before they are considered to be properly captured.

A pair of officers were looking down at the elevator shaft and muttering amongst themselves.

“Well?”

“I’m not walking down forty flights of stairs in this armour…”

“Maybe you can jump off and fall to the bottom and survive?”

“Don’t be ridiculous. There’s basement floors to this hotel. You’ll definitely die. Those guys must have hacked the elevator’s automatic safety function and deactivated to drop it down before activating it again to stop it from crashing.”

Huh… That’s interesting to know.

We waited at the side patiently before one of them walked over to us, this one being a female officer who was at least two heads shorter than I was and had some kind of lizard tail poking out from behind her.

“First things first. Name?”

I raised an eyebrow at her, “I thought your scanner already got that information?”

She tapped her foot impatiently, “Name?”

Sheesh, alright, alright.

“Tera.”

“Occupation?”

“Captain of the Teran Mercenary Company.”

“Merc Rank?”

“I believe Platinum level one if I am not wrong?”

“What were you doing before you ran into this guy?”

“We were trying to get back to our room since you guys locked the place down. But then the entire building had its electricity cut off and we got stuck in the lift. We climbed out from there and then these guys came running so I attacked the last guy and knocked him down. The others apparently used the lift to get away I guess?”

The officer tapped on something on her wrist and I realised that she had been recording my statement which was why she wanted me to state my name again.

Tsk… She could have asked first.

The officer was about to turn away to leave but I stopped her.

“Wait. Seeing that we’re already involved in this anyway, you might as well tell us what is going on, right? Maybe we can help? There’s still at least three people who got away from you guys.”

The female officer paused and looked at another officer who I assumed was the commanding officer of this operation and he thought about it for a moment before nodding.

She turned back, “Fine… Since you’re Mercs anyway so maybe you can be useful. We got called here because someone was killed and they stole something from them which we are not trying to apprehend them for.”

I raised an eyebrow, “So… This is just a simple murder and robbery? I don’t think it’s that simple, is it?”

“The person they killed is an executive of Ruger Heavy Dynamics and they were carrying something important belonging to the company which those people stole. One of them still has it.”

I heard Amber whisper behind me, “Oh… So it really wasn’t about us?”

I wasn’t sure what Amber meant by that but I was still trying to remember what company that was known for.

If I’m not wrong… They were specialised in making military grade equipment or something? I believe the spider tank I saw was also made by them.

I assume this guy was a representative sent by the company here to participate in the exhibition carrying whatever new toy the company had made.

Maybe those four guys were either hired Mercs sent to steal whatever that guy was carrying or agents from a rival company sent here to take him out and steal whatever that guy was carrying.

Corporate espionage is scary huh…

“I take it that you want us to find them and take back whatever they stole?” I asked.

“Alive if possible. There will be a bounty paid for them if you can bring them back. Less if they are dead.”

I turned to my girls, “Since we’ll be stuck here while those guys are at large anyway… We might as well make some money, right?”

Everyone else agreed so I guess that’s settled.

Now here’s the question… How do we get down there?

I mean… I could definitely jump down since I can levitate and also bring everyone else with me… But I’m pretty sure these police officers would wonder how we’re able to do it and start asking questions.

Thankfully, I didn’t need to think of an excuse because Amber already had one prepared.

“Let’s go, Tera! Our jetpack boots should be enough to let us reach the bottom safely! Everyone who can’t fly, hold on to someone who can!”

My girls understood the assignment but there was just one problem…

All of them immediately came to cling onto me.

Mara? Renata? I’m pretty sure the both of you could also levitate yourselves down there so why are you clinging onto me as well.

Amber took one look at the group, puffed up her cheeks then also joined in, hugging me from behind.

Ah… Screw it…

“Ready girls?” I asked, stepping the edge of the elevator shaft.

“Yes~”

Ok, whoever is touching my boobs, stop squeezing them… Also the one who is touching my butt! Amber! I know you’re the one grouping my crotch! Stop it!

I jumped off the ledge and all of us fell towards the bottom of the elevator shaft.

Thankfully, the elevator shaft was illuminated by red emergency lights so I could see where the lift had stopped and timed our landing.

As we neared it, I imagined all of us as a single group and exerted my will over all of us, slowing down our descent before we touched down on top of the lift.

Amber even made a show of materialising fire below us to mimic rocket thrusters as we landed just in case the officers were peeking down the elevator shaft.

There was a hatch with a handle on top and I pulled at it, revealing it to be the top hatch to climb into the lift itself.

We dropped down into the elevator to find that the door was open to a dark corridor that was illuminated by emergency lights on the wall.

I pulled out my halberd in its box form and my girls also armed themselves with their own weapons as we stepped out of the lift.

“I’m guessing this is the basement of the hotel?” I asked.

Amber nodded, “Seems like it.”

“Is there an underground passage out of the hotel here?”

“I guess we’ll find out?”

Tsk… If there really is one, those guys might actually be able to get away… Which means our potential money was getting away.

Considering the fact that these guys murdered an executive of a company who was no doubt carrying something important, we might be able to get a big payout if we manage to nab them and get that company to reward us for retrieving whatever it was that they took.

And if they don’t want to pay us… There’s always the black market, heh heh heh~

“Keep up girls,” I told them, right before I broke into a sprint.

I ran down the corridor, looking for any signs of those three guys that we saw earlier.

There were a few doors along the way but all of them were closed so I don’t think they went into any of them and I kept running.

A turn was approaching and instead of slowing down normally, I extended a tentacle from my arm to press itself against the wall, using it to push back against me to slow down and complete my turn before pushing off again to accelerate forward.

Right as I did so, I found a large door right up ahead… And three guys were currently hunched over the console at the side like they were trying to get it open.

“Fuck! Look! They’re already here!! Hurry and get it open already!!” One of them shouted.

He pulled out a pistol and started shooting at me, the first few shots of his kinetic weapon missing before the next managed to hit me in the chest.

Too bad for him as Renata simply ate up the bullet without slowing me down while I transformed the box in my hand into the halberd.

I swung my weapon forward, sending the axe flying as it detached from the pole to slice through the guy’s weapon and rendering it useless.

I landed on the ground and spun the shaft in a circle, pulling the axe back to reattach itself before I pointed the tip at the group.

“If you know what’s good for you, you better surren–”

I didn’t get to finish my words before the door suddenly exploded open and a large Power Armour crashed through, shooting several lasers at me.

I had to dodge away from the blasts while the three guys quickly ran through the now broken door.

Where the fuck did this thing come from?!
