Capítulo 749: Why Are The Police Here?
I cleaned Yumiko up and managed to wake her after a while.
Thankfully, it seems like her heat had subsided after that and we managed to arrange for a meetup with the girls at the hotel lobby.
When we met them downstairs, all of them seemed to have a really satisfied expression on their faces for some reason.
“Did something happen?” I asked.
Amber grinned, “Oh, nothing much~ This hotel has some great stuff so we’re very satisfied~”
Satisfied? What does she mean by that?
Before I could ask, the sound of sirens came from outside the hotel and I turned to see several people wearing combat armour marching into the hotel. All of them had the word ‘Police’ plastered on their chestplate so there was no doubt about who they were.
Incidentally, I noticed that not all of them were human in that group so either they were Gene modded humans or they were other races.
The other guests also saw this and started whispering amongst themselves.
“What’s going on?”
“Why are the police here?”
“It can’t be those Nobles right?”
“There’s no way… Did someone try to do something to them?”
“If they did, the Nobles would have killed them already… The police wouldn’t even have a chance to get involved…”
One of the hotel staff rushed towards the police, “You’re finally here! Hurry, this way!”
He then sped off towards the elevator with the police following behind him.
“What the… What’s happening?” I asked.
Lea looked at the group of police officers walking further and further away, “I do not believe it has anything to do with us, Mistress.”
Well… That’s true.
I turned back to my girls, “Anyway, what’s the plan now? Do we go and take a look around the city? It’s our first time here after all.”
The girls agreed enthusiastically and we started to head towards the exit, only to find two police officers standing there who barred the way when we got close.
“Sorry. I’m afraid that we are restricting anyone from entering and leaving the premises at this moment,” One of them informed me, his height towering over all of us and his bull horns poking out from his helmet that still somehow manages to hide his face.
I frowned, “What’s going on? What happened?”
He shook his head, “There’s no need for you to know right now. The only thing you need to know is that entry and exit is restricted at the moment. Please comply.”
I grimaced, “You’re not even going to let us know why we have to be stuck here?”
“I’m afraid not.”
Well… I’m not going to try and make things difficult for them so I took a step back and turned to the girls.
“So… What now? I guess we’re stuck here? Should we go back to our rooms or something?”
The girls actually look annoyed by this news and they were even glaring at the two police officers guarding the door like they were thinking if it would be worth it to just barge through anyway.
I cleared my throat, “Ahem… Girls? Let’s just wait for now, alright? It might only just take a while.”
“Let’s go back to our rooms then,” Mara suggested while shooting the girls a look. “We might as well just get comfortable.”
We returned to the lift lobby and, thankfully, they weren’t stopping guests from returning to their rooms so we stepped into one that started taking us up to our floor.
“What do you think happened? It looks pretty serious,” I mused.
“Maybe someone died and their body was found,” Amber mused.
That’s pretty morbid… But you know what? I can totally see that happening to be honest, considering just what kind of universe this was.
I was just about to joke that maybe it was one of the Nobles who got killed when the elevator shook and the lights went out, the entire contraption coming to a stop.
Really? A place like this can still experience elevator breakdowns? I thought this was supposed to be some high tech universe?!
I tapped on my Codex and activated its light function, chasing away the darkness with its illumination.
“Great… What now?” I sighed.
Amber looked up at the ceiling, “We can try to get out of here I guess? I think there should be a hatch at the top somewhere.”
Renata then went ahead to press her hand against the door before her hand melted and slipped between the crack of the two sliding doors.
There was a soft metallic whine before the two doors slid open, revealing that we were stuck three quarters of a way between two floors. Outside, the lights were also shut off, indicating that the power failure wasn’t limited to just the lift we had been riding.
That could have ended pretty badly but I guess Renata already knew it was safe before she did that.
For now, I guess we should just climb out of here first.
Seeing that the floor above had more space for us to climb out of, I decided that we should just exit on that floor.
I got the girls to climb out first before I followed as the last one out of the lift, my girls pulling me up though there wasn’t really a need to since I was lifting myself with my telekinesis anyway.
Looking around, this floor was definitely somewhere lower than ours since the lift lobby definitely looked smaller and in front of us were three corridors leading to the left, right and the front that would further split to form a sort of maze to lead to different rooms on this floor.
Judging by the size of the doors and the amount of space between each room… These rooms might not be the size of the suites that we had paid for but it looks like they were at the very least large sized rooms that would cost quite a fair bit to rent for a night.
As I was wondering if there might be a set of stairs we could use, the sound of gunshots suddenly came from one of the corridors.
As I turned towards it, footsteps could also be heard coming towards us.
“Fuck, fuck!! Why did they come here so quickly?!”
“That’s why I told you not to skimp out on hiring a better hacker!! They definitely failed in containing the alarm system!!”
“Stop complaining and just run damnit!! There’s stairs just up ahead!!”
“And what? You want us to climb down forty seven flights of stairs?! The entrance would also be blocked!”
Right then, a group of four people that were armed and dressed like mercenaries came running down the corridor from around the corner.
The two at the back fired several rounds behind them before committing to the turn, right before a hail of lasers pierced through the space that they had been occupying just a moment before.
The one at the lead saw us and let out a curse, “Fuck! More of them! Do it now!!”
The guy next to him pointed his fist at us and his arm opened up to reveal some kind of launcher which shot out a ball towards us.
I immediately tried to cover for my girls, using myself as a shield thinking that the object was most likely a grenade.
It turned out that it was really a grenade but not the lethal type as a flash of blinding light filled the corridor and a deafening ringing sound filled the air.
I was momentarily blinded by the light but I suddenly felt a feeling like something was trying to run past me.
I trusted my instinct and reached out my arm and felt something smack against my arm to fall onto the floor beside me.
Right after that, the sound of something metallic could be heard screeching before it dampened out and my vision returned to normal.
The thing that hit my arm turned out to be one of the four guys that had been unfortunate enough to get clotheslined by me and looking at the fact that the lift we had climbed out of was no longer there… I’m assuming they changed their plans and hitched a ride on that lift to the ground floor or something.
I wonder how they would survive a drop of forty seven floors though?
Soon enough, an even larger group of footsteps could be heard and we found the police officers from earlier thumping down the corridor, all of them surrounding us with their weapons raised.
“Identify!!” One of them shouted.
I thought he was talking to us and was just about to answer when one of the police officers stepped forward and a green beam was shone on me.
“Hotel records show that she’s a guest. Tera. Plat rank Merc. She’s clean.”
Damn, they can even find that out with just a simple scan huh? At least we don’t have to worry about them mistaking us.
I then nodded at the guy I smacked who was still laying on the floor and they seem to have finally registered that I managed to get this guy for him.
One of them moved forward and grabbed the guy before pointing a finger at me, “Stay there, we will have questions for you.”
I guess now we’re involved whether we like it or not…
Captain’s Log:
What’s going on here?!
Amber’s Log:
Oh, so are they really not here for those idiots we strung up and killed? Maybe they haven’t found the bodies yet.
Lea’s Log:
… We should just let Renata eat up the evidence from the start.
Renata’s Log:
Mmm… I guess I should go and eat up those bad people that insulted Daddy later~
