Capítulo 746: What To Do When You Meet A Noble
I waited until they had entered the hotel before turning to her, “Should we change the location of where we’re staying then?”
Mara shook her head, “It’s fine… The fact that they are here means that they are also here for the exhibition…”
“But surely it’s a bad idea to be staying in the same hotel right? We can just change to stay at another hotel rather than risk this right?”
“I want to keep an eye on them, Captain… It would be better that we know what they are doing and what their plans are so that we can plan around them.”
“Wouldn’t they be able to sense us or something?”
“There are no other telepaths on my level, Captain… They will not be able to sense us passively. The only way they will know we are here is if they see us or if we use our abilities very obviously.”
“Define ‘obviously’.”
“I mean like using it somewhere where they can see with their eyes. Not like sense it like they have a third sense for Psionic energy… Though it’s more because they themselves would be using their own Psionic powers openly so even if they detect it, they would assume that it came from one of their own.”
I guess that makes sense…
“Will there be other nobles around then?” I asked.
She hesitated, “I want to say that it’s very unlikely… It’s already a surprise to see them here because this is in the Outer colonies… Under normal circumstances, they would much rather go and join the exhibition in the Inner Colonies instead. They must have been sent out here for some kind of purpose…”
Lea turned to her, “Could it be related to you?”
“I don’t believe that is the case since they shouldn’t even know I am here as Desmond would not have told them about our meeting.”
Right… The thing about his pride or whatever preventing him from admitting he got his ass kicked.
“Do you need a disguise then?” I asked.
“I suppose it would be better to have one… But I do not have one prepared…”
I turned towards the maid girl at the back, “Renata? Could you maybe make a hat or a mask to cover Mara’s face?”
She made a face of disgust, “Ugh… I can make a hat I guess… But it’s only because Daddy told me to.”
Mara also gave her the same look, “Tch… It’s only because it’s an emergency… Otherwise, I wouldn’t even want to put you on me.”
Umm… I really want to question why they are acting so hostile to each other on just this one matter alone but seeing that Renata split off a blob of herself to transform into a wide brim hat for Mara, I decided that I’d rather not ask lest it triggers an argument.
Mara put the hat on and I’m pretty sure there’s some additional properties to the hat because her face seemed to be covered in shadow no matter which direction she turned, obscuring her face from view.
I guess even though Renata might whine about it, she’s still properly doing what I asked.
With Mara’s new disguise we headed inside the hotel, the doors sliding open the moment we stepped inside.
Two women were there to greet us when we entered, one being a human and the other a snake woman where instead of legs, she had a snake’s body as her lower half.
Both bowed to us, “Welcome to The Grand Honpeki. Will dear guests be checking in?”
“Ah… Yes,” I responded.
The snake girl straightened and gestured inside the lobby, “Please allow me to guide you then.”
She slithered away while we followed behind her, her hips swaying hypnotically to glide forward.
I leaned back to my girls and whispered, “So… Is she another alien?”
Mara shook her head, “No. That’s a human who modded herself to change her lower half into that. Pretty popular mod actually. But in case you are wondering, there is a species that are actual snake people.”
Good to know.
I checked around and I did not see Mara’s brother nor anyone that was levitating so I assume that those Nobles had already checked into their rooms.
That worked in our favour of course, since it would be terribly awkward if we had to stand beside them at the reception counter and–
“I told you to wait until we go to our room didn’t I?”
“How was I supposed to know that they don’t even have private toilets for Nobles in the lobby?”
“We’re in the Outer trash colonies right now you dumb shit.”
“Both of you shut up. You’re making a scene.”
We stopped in our tracks as a group of six people levitated out from around the corner, all of them dressed in especially expensive looking clothing and wearing capes that fluttered behind them.
Four of them were males while two of them were female and the youngest amongst them seemed to be another boy who looked to be sixteen at most.
The one leading the group was a rather handsome looking man with sharp eyes and brown skin that contrasted with his grey hair.
Following them were several maids and butlers that maintained their distance from them, their clothes also looking especially expensive even though they were undoubtedly their servants.
The lamia girl in front of us also came to a stop and bowed her head.
In fact, it looks like everyone else in the hotel lobby also stopped whatever they were doing to bow their heads.
I’m guessing that was the expected reaction to seeing a Noble so I was prepared to do the same as well when a sudden force pushed at my chin to straighten my head.
I realised that it was Renata pushing my head up and I breathed, “Renata… What are you doing?”
“Daddy will not bow your head to anyone!” She said as a matter of factly.
I looked around and I found that the only group of people that were not bowing their heads were mine and it made us look super out of place.
Is everyone trying to pick a fight with them or something?! Why are we trying to stand out right now?!
Thankfully, the reception area was in front of us so they had to levitate ahead of us to get there, meaning their backs would be turned towards us so they shouldn’t be able to see this odd group that refused to bow.
However, instead of stopping at the reception counter, they headed directly for the lifts past it which probably means they were most likely already checked in… Or they never needed to go through that process to begin with.
Good. That means they should be out of here even sooner.
Just as I thought of that, one of the lifts opened and a guest stepped out, his attention completely fixated on his personal terminal and not even realising the six Nobles were levitating towards him.
“What’s this? A mere commoner dares to move in our presence?” The man leading the group mused.
He then reached out his hand and the guy only just managed to look up before he was lifted off the ground telekinetically.
He let out a choked gasp and dropped his personal terminal, his hands quickly clasping together as though he was begging for mercy.
“Ple… Plea–”
The guy’s neck snapped and the Noble tossed his dead body aside without hesitation, the corpse crashing against the wall before dropping onto the ground in a heap.
No one even said anything as though what just happened was the most normal thing.
Heck, even I don’t think it was that abnormal considering the fact that I’ve been to places where you could get your head blown off at any moment.
And I’ve also done the same thing to a bunch of smugglers too so this wasn’t surprising to me.
What really made me hold my breath was the fact that they did this to someone who wasn’t a threat and was only at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Please don’t turn around, please don’t turn around, please don’t turn around…
I watched as the group entered the elevator, leaving the servants to take another lift up to the hotel rooms.
Only when the lift doors closed did everyone finally raise their heads and a collective breath was let out.
The lamia girl turned to us and smiled, “We apologise for that inconvenience, dear guest, please follow me~”
She was speaking in such a cheery tone you wouldn’t think that they had a dead body currently laying in front of their lift lobby.
When I looked at where the dead body was supposed to be, however, I found those servants already bagging the body up and clearing up the blood splatters from where he had hit his head on the wall.
It didn’t even take them a few seconds before there was no evidence that someone had died there and they did it so efficiently like they had already done this a million times.
Damn… Nobles are scary…
Captain’s Log:
Sheesh… I’m glad I’m not a Noble then… All this looks exhausting.
