Chapter 683: Transform, Power Armour!
We headed down the lift to where those Mercs were supposedly being pinned down.
I considered leaving one or two of us behind to make sure the Zwerger rebels don’t claim it back but then again, it’s not like it’s a big deal even if they did since we can just come back and clear them out.
And it would be useless for them to take over the guns again since the Zwerger navy had already moved past the station so they couldn’t shoot them down anymore.
In other words, they would just be voluntarily gathering themselves together in one place.
The lift dropped us off on the main street and we could already hear the sounds of gunfire and explosions from all around us.
Looks like the fight is still raging quite a bit…
“Where’s the location of those Mercs that were pinned down?” I asked aloud.
Lea pointed in a particular direction, “Most likely where the most explosions are coming from, Mistress.”
I’m not too sure that that’s a good reason to believe that’s where they are but I guess that’s a good place to start since it must mean the fighting is most intense in that direction, which would also mean there’s more enemies there.
And more enemies means more Credits~
We decided to head towards the direction Lea pointed, running through the empty streets which used to be a shopping street or something with the boarded up and wrecked storefronts of the former inhabitants.
The fresh burn marks, bullet holes and corpses littering around the street meant a fight happened here not too long ago.
Judging by the position of them, it seems like it was leading towards our destination as well.
Eventually, we arrived at a square which I recognised was similar looking to the one we saw in the call that we received.
Seeing that there were several Zwergers, Power Armours and even a few tanks shooting at a particular building that was already half destroyed, I think we’re at the right place.
Right, it’s just the four of us against this small army, no big deal.
Well… Five if we were counting Renata.
I turned to the girls, “So what’s the plan?”
Amber raised an eyebrow at me, “Plan? Do we even need a plan? Just go in there and start killing!”
She didn’t wait for me to respond as she immediately ran towards the battle line of Zwerger rebels.
Right… I guess that’s the plan then.
Lea had already set herself up with her coil rifle, taking aim at the Zwerger rebels from where she was laying.
Yumiko had also drawn her swords and dashed towards the group of Power Armours.
I guess that means the tanks are left to me to deal with?
I looked down at my chest, “How would you hold up against a tank shell?”
There was a pause before Renata answered, “Mmm… As long as it’s a kinetic shell, I can deal with it~”
That’s all I needed to hear then.
“Great, can you go into Power Armour mode for me? Focus more on speed and mobility please~” I requested.
My clothes started to morph as they shifted and expanded themselves like liquid to cover the rest of my body, forming a kind of skintight suit around me.
Not gonna lie, I feel like a certain fictional character that had bonded with an alien parasite.
Thankfully, the suit it formed was more sleek and looked like a high tech spandex suit instead of some organic body so I don’t need to worry about copyright issues, heh~
Still, having an ‘on demand’ Power Armour is really, really cool~
This is also serving as a test on how well Renata’s Power Armour transformation was so that Ries would let her consume the Power Armour she made as well.
I brought out my halberd and assembled it in my hands before tapping my foot against the ground as though I had just put on a pair of shoes and started sprinting towards the armoured vehicles.
In just a single leap, I had already closed the distance by half and on the second step I launched myself up above the tanks that were still shooting at the building the Mercs were taking cover in.
Ignoring the screams of panic coming from the infantry Zwergers that were currently being massacred by Amber, I brought my halberd swinging down in an arc to slash through the turret of one of the tanks.
The axe cut through the metal with barely any resistance, leaving an angry red mark through the turret’s top and prompting it to split into two halves, exposing the Zwerger crew that was manning the turret.
They looked up to see what caused their turret to split apart but I had already moved behind them, my halberd held behind me to line up my slash with their necks.
There was a high pitched whine as I slashed my weapons in an arc, cutting their heads off and watching them fly through the air in perfect synchronicity.
Before the heads even reached the apex of their flight, I had already leapt off the tank to flip myself towards another one.
The turret tried to turn to me and the coaxial gun blasted a hail of kinetic autocannon rounds at me.
I trusted Renata to deal with it so I ignored it in favour of charging up my halberd and slashing it at the tank, unleashing a flying energy blade that flew towards the tank.
The autocannon rounds struck me in the chest but I didn’t even feel any impact as Renata immediately absorbed them and ate them all up without letting a single one affect me.
The energy blade sliced into the tank and split the entire tank vertically in half.
I must have also hit its ammunition compartment because a split second later, the entire tank exploded and blew itself up.
The explosion blew out a small shockwave that sent the Zwergers unfortunate enough to be near it flying away as well.
Yumiko did not waste that opportunity as her figure appeared for a moment briefly before disappearing again, leaving all the airborne Zwergers sliced up into two at their waists.
She then returned back to slicing up the remaining Power Armour, her swords cutting through them like they were just tofu.
The Zwergers had one more ‘tank’ but this one was more of an armoured walker type thing where it was a cockpit suspended on two legs with two large autocannons mounted on the sides of the cockpit.
It swivelled in my direction and the autocannons started blasting kinetic rounds in my direction.
I didn’t bother trying to dodge them and simply ran towards it in a straight line, letting Renata eat up all the kinetic shells that hit me as I concentrated on targeting the walker.
An extra cannon suddenly popped out from below the cockpit and red light gathered at the tip of its barrel.
I reacted immediately by swinging my halberd in front of me, just in time to deflect away the energy projectile that was fired towards my head and sending it crashing towards a group of unfortunate Zwerger rebels.
The energy projectile exploded in a shower of sparks and sent the Zwergers flying away, some of them even catching fire and starting to burn.
I accelerated towards the walker, not giving it a second chance to shoot at me again.
I slashed at one of its legs, slicing through the metal before spinning out of the way and letting the walker crash down on its side as it lost its balance.
Its remaining leg kicked the air trying to right itself up but I jumped on top of the cockpit and raised the butt end of my halberd to smash it down on the glass.
It easily smashed through the cockpit and I used it as leverage to force the cockpit open, exposing the Zwerger pilot who was looking up at me in shock.
To his credit, he recovered quickly and pulled out his pistol to start shooting at me.
I let him take his shot as he watched the bullets get eaten away by my suit, leaving not even a mark behind.
Once he realised that his attacks were useless, I lifted my halberd up with deliberate slowness, letting him watch the sight of my weapon rising higher and higher.
His pistol slid out of his grip and I have to commend him for not begging for mercy and merely just gaping up at his impending death hovering over him.
I gave him another moment and he closed his eyes in acceptance before I swung my axe down to slice him into half.
With the last of the tank disabled, I turned back to survey the battle to see that Amber, Yumiko and Lea had pretty much wiped out the remaining Zwergers.
The last few remaining were either laying on the floor dying or were in full retreat, which I doubt they even had a safe place to retreat to to begin with.
I then turned towards the building, “This is the Teran Mercenary Company! We’ve dealt with the ones outside! You’re all safe now! So get back to earning Credits!”
Heh… I’m funny~
Captain’s Log:
This is so cool~ I feel like some kind of superhero now~ Maybe I should say some kind of catchphrase when I transform?
