Chapter 682: The Rest Of The Station Raid

“Yes, that should be the trigger to fire the weapon, so just line it up and blow it away Boss!”

“Thanks Ries~ Couldn’t have done it without you~ Love you, muacks~”

“E… Eh? Ehehehe~ I love you too, Boss~” She gushed, hiding her cheeks with her hands while she did a little happy wiggle on the screen.

So cute~

Anyway, I had to call Ries up because I took one look at the gun’s control panel and figured I had no idea how to operate this.

Then Lea took a look at it and also admitted that she had no idea how to operate it either.

Which was why I thought to ask the only person I know who would have the highest probability of knowing how to use this gun just by looking at the console.

Sure enough, Ries basically guided me on how to start up the gun, how to aim and how to fire it within half a minute.

I then let Lea take over the control of the gun and I kept Ries on the call so that she could watch the gun fire from our end.

Lea manipulated the controls of the gun and the screen on top of the console showed the targeting reticle hovering on top of the Rebel Cruiser.

“Permission, Mistress?” Lea asked.

I grinned, “Fire away, Lea~”

She didn’t hesitate to pull the trigger, the giant cannon above us making a rumbling noise before a beam of light was fired towards the Cruiser.

The Cruiser was completely oblivious about the threat shooting towards it from behind and by the time they realised they were being targeted, it was too late.

The beam of light pierced through its shields like it wasn’t even there before melting a giant hole through the centre of the ship.

That wasn’t even the end as the D Class ships that had been near it were also caught up in the beam and melted away before they could do anything.

I think some of them might not have even realised they were being attacked from behind before they died.

As expected of Lea, she not only took out the ship but also several other ships with a single shot.

“Nice shot, Lea~ Perfect as always~” I praised, giving her a hug from behind.

“A… Ah… Thank you, Mistress. I’m just happy to help.”

So modest~

Well, I’m not going to let her off with just that so I squeezed her face to turn her to me, causing her to let out a surprised gasp.

Before she could say anything, I went ahead to kiss her on the lips, savouring her taste before I pulled back and licked my lips.

She seemed a little out of it at first before she shook herself awake and started looking at me with bedroom eyes.

Ok, ok, calm down Lea. We’re still in enemy territory. I’ll give you a good banging after we get back to the ship, ok?

Amber whistled at the sight of the Cruiser still in the midst of exploding and breaking apart, “That’s gonna give us a big payday for that~ Probably at least a million Credits just for the Cruiser~”

A million Credits? That’s not a lot…

Wait a minute… No, no, no… That’s actually quite a lot of money for a normal person. It’s just that we’ve been earning so much money that a million Credits feels little to me now.

Like even if we split this money up amongst all of us, we literally just earned over a hundred and forty thousand Credits each if we count Renata as well.

And this was an instant payout from less than a day’s worth of work, so this was technically a really big amount of money.

Just to put it into perspective, we just earned about fourteen times the average monthly salary of a miner in just a day… Each.

They would have needed to work a year and two months just to earn what each of us did with that single shot.

Yeah, that’s a lot of money.

But even though I kept telling myself that… I just couldn’t feel it since that wouldn’t even be enough to buy another Iridescence for me… Which I suppose was a clear sign that my value of Credits was completely broken at this point…

Well… I still won’t say no to more Credits anyway, we’re still intending to get the Exo-Knight license and to have at least one Exo-Knight in our ship and those are definitely going to be expensive purchases.

That’s why I’m still trying to stock up on Credits to make sure we don’t go broke the moment we buy them.

Putting our future financial situation aside, I looked up at the rebel ships that were scattering and breaking formation to start flying towards the other Warp Gate in full retreat.

Guess they already knew the battle was lost and they no longer stood a chance against the Zwerger Navy in defending this sector.

“Could we control the other guns on the station from here?” I asked, looking around at the other consoles.

Ries’s voice came from my Codex, “We can, Boss!! See that console over there by the side of that decapitated Zwerger? They rerouted the controls for the secondary turrets to that terminal as a backup so if you can hack into it, we can take control of them too!”

Oh? In that case…

I did exactly just that and just a few seconds later, I was in full control of the secondary guns and using their automatic targeting systems to start shooting at those rebel ships that were unfortunate enough to fly within our firing range.

Several more ships got blasted out from space and I was making sure that I was keeping a track of it in my Codex so we could claim the kills to get the rewards for them.

Each ship that was being shot down caused money sounds to play inside my head.

And as though they took offense to that… One of the three elevators dinged and several Zwergers stormed out, all armed to the teeth.

Clearly these guys weren’t part of the Mercenary group that came to take over this station so Amber didn’t hesitate to start firing at them without any warning, riddling the two Zwergers at the front with bullets while she dove for cover behind a half wall.

I took out my box as well and turned it into my halberd right as Yumiko sliced through three more before turning back to decapitate the last one, eliminating all of them even before they could fire a single shot.

Hey… At least leave some for m–

Two more dings came from the other two elevators and this time I was ready.

I dashed towards the lift closest to me just as the occupants started rushing out through the doors, guns already raised.

I took a moment to make sure that they were definitely rebel Zwergers before I swung my weapon at them, my halberd easily cleaving through the entire group with minimal resistance.

On the other side, the Zwergers made the mistake of trying to get out of their lift in single file and guess who had already set herself up with her coil rifle aimed at the doors?

Lea let loose the round and pierced through four Zwergers in a single shot, the projectile even piercing through the back wall of the elevator and leaving a bullet hole in its wake.

Two Zwergers were fortunate enough not to join the congo line of death but that made no difference since Amber was also prepared to clean up any stragglers and unloaded her pistols on them, wiping the entire group out.

As we relaxed, I got a notification call on my Codex and I realised that it was on the open network that our Mercenary group was using to communicate for this operation.

When I tapped on it to answer it, panicked shouts were coming from the other side.

“–f you can hear us, we need some backup at their main street!! These fuckers have us pinned down with their fucking Power Armours! They even have tanks!! They trapped at least twenty of us in this building! Any Mercs receiving this call please send some help before we get wiped!! Please, anyone–”

The call got cut when an explosion ripped through the roof above him and the video feed cut to static.

I turned to raise an eyebrow at my girls.

We’re obviously not obligated to help them since it wasn’t like we were friends with them or anything and our sole objective here was to just hold this room down since we just needed the station’s guns.

But well… Going out to fight against them would also mean more Credits and it would be one thing if those Mercs can handle themselves but they’re literally calling for help right now so… I guess we’re going?

Captain’s Log:

Great, guess to expect the other Mercs to be competent enough was a little too much.
