Chapter 625: We’re Pirate Associates

I was worried this might start another fight or something but the crowd didn’t even seem to care that we just beat up several men right there on the street.

In fact, the crowd seemed more concerned about their unofficial betting of the fight and started arguing amongst themselves while trading Credits.

Obviously we took that opportunity to slip away as fast as we could before another incident like that could happen.

“Would that be a problem?” I asked Yumiko.

She shook her head, “That’s just normal stuff that can happen around here. Fights do happen so it’s like a normal everyday thing.”

“This place is that bad, huh?”

“Like I said, the law and order here is pretty much non-existent. Such things are expected as long as you aren’t killing people. Heck, even if you kill someone, as long as you do it discreetly, most people wouldn’t care either.”

Right… I guess that should be expected of a place like this.

Yumiko continued to lead us through the streets until we came to a particular alley which we had to squeeze through to reach that appeared to be the back of one of the stores.

There was a door at the back and a guy was seated across from it, clearly acting as a lookout but he pretended to ignore us.

Yumiko also paid him no mind as she went up to the door and knocked on it three times.

There was a slot at the top that slid open to reveal a pair of eyes peeking out with an unfriendly gaze at us.

“What do you want?” The guy asked.

Yumiko didn’t look fazed by his unfriendly tone and responded, “Only by the sword of vengeance can the bloodlust be quelled.”

The person behind the door stared at her for a moment more before the panel slid closed and the sound of locks being unlatched could be heard.

I guess that must be some kind of password.

The door then swung outwards, revealing a rather large sized man standing behind it.

He narrowed his eyes at us, “You’re supposed to be new recruits or something?”

Yumiko shook her head, “No. We’re just business associates with them. They recommended us to do business here if we’re in the area and we have things to sell.”

The guy looked at us with a raised eyebrow, clearly wondering what goods we were selling since we were obviously empty handed.

Well, we weren’t going to just wheel boxes of weapons through the station of course. But we did take inventory of what we have and made a list of what we could sell so they could pick what they want and then follow us back to get it from the ship.

It probably wasn’t his place to question us since he didn’t comment on that and merely jerked his head towards the interior of the room, “Get inside then.”

Oh, he’s not even asking us to disarm first? Alright then…

Yumiko continued to lead the way and we stepped past the doorway. I did hear the big guy mutter “What is she wearing?” when he spotted Renata walking behind me though.

I guess maid uniforms aren’t common around here? Their loss.

Moving through the narrow passage that was only lit up by barely functioning light bulbs, we climbed down a set of stairs before a door at the end greeted us.

Another guy was there and he shot us a look before wordlessly knocking on the door and opening it like it was some kind of password.

But the odd thing was that the door opened to an empty room with only a single couch inside and another door at the other side. So who was he knocking the door for?

We were ushered in and he pointed at a couch that was pushed up against the wall at the side, indicating we should sit there.

I simply followed Yumiko’s lead and since she wasn’t saying anything, I guess that everything was proceeding as she expected.

The guy then closed the door and we were pretty much left alone inside that room.

Right as I was thinking about asking Yumiko what was going to happen, the second door opened and a woman wearing literally just lingerie stepped inside and raised an eyebrow at us.

“You’re the pirates?”

“Associates of the Vengeance Fleet,” Yumiko answered.

She nodded, “Come along then.”

We were once again guided through another door and this time, we stepped into a large hall where people were shouting at the tops of their voices and clamouring around their own groups.

I quickly realised that this was some kind of gambling den when I saw the flash of cards and sounds of dice being tossed around.

We had to walk through the hall and while most of the people in the room were men, there were also some women but all of them were also dressed only in underwear.

One such girl smiled in our direction and flashed her boobs at us, “Hey pretty~ I usually charge two thousand Credits a round but for a pretty girl like you? A thousand Credits is enough~”

Ah… Streetwalkers I see.

The woman leading us clucked her tongue at her, “They aren’t those kinds of guests, Betty. Go away.”

“Tsk… No harm trying right?”

Our guide led us through the hall until we eventually reached a cubicle dug out from the wall with the doorway covered only by a curtain.

She pulled one side of the cloth inside and gestured inside, prompting us to enter the cubicle.

Inside was a round table with the seats arranged in a semicircle. Seated at the head was a rather overweight man that was currently tapping away on his personal terminal while being surrounded by several men, all of them armed.

The overweight guy looked up when he saw us, “Hmm… You’re not the supposed associates of the Vengeance Fleet? I never knew they hired associates to do their business for them.”

Yumiko shook her head, “We’re not here for them. We just used to deal business with them in the past and they gave us your contact for making sales here.”

The guy hummed to himself, “Hmmm… I’m not the sort of person who will turn down a potential business opportunity. You can call me Feng. Now go ahead and sit.”

We did as he asked and settled ourselves into the cubicle at the seats closest to the door, ignoring the armed men that were shooting us unfriendly gazes.

The woman that guided us here then went over to Feng’s side and settled down beside him, her hands going down to stroke his thigh.

It was clear that she was probably his favourite out of the girls here or something as he draped his arm around her and nodded at us.

“I assume that you already know what kind of business I deal with so let’s get straight to the point. My time is money and if I figure out that you’re wasting my time, you will be paying for it.”

Yumiko brought out her personal terminal and placed it on the table to project a screen showing the list of things we were trying to sell.

“That’s what we have on offer. Pick what you want and we can talk Credits.”

At the sight of the screen popping up, the overweight guy moved his arm away from the woman beside him to lean forward, his eyes narrowing at the screen.

“That’s a lot of weapons…” He muttered before gesturing at the screen. “May I?”

Yumiko nodded and flicked her hand towards him, prompting the screen to float over to stop just in front of Feng.

He started scrolling through the list with a serious eye, “This is really a lot of weapons… And a lot of firepower too… This is enough to outfit an entire battalion. Was there some sort of war going on that I wasn’t aware about?”

“We got them from scavenging through battlegrounds and also from dealing with other pirates,” Yumiko answered without missing a beat.

Feng paused and looked up at us with a raised eyebrow, “Are you Mercs?”

I frowned, “Is that a problem?”

“No. I’m just surprised that you would claim to be affiliated with the Vengeance pirates while being a Merc.”

“We never said we were affiliated,” I pointed out. “We said we were associates. They had to rely on us for something and we had to rely on them for something so we did each other a favour. The Pirate Lord of that fleet trusts us.”

Technically, I said no lies since the former Pirate Lord of said fleet is seated right over there and she’s basically showing me her belly every other day to get me to give her belly scratches.

Feng stared at me for a moment more before shifting his gaze back to the screen, “There’s quite a lot of stuff here and I will say that I’m interested. I assume the weapons you have are in your ship? Docked at berth Seven B?”

I wasn’t surprised he knew and just nodded.

“I’ll have to check on my own supplies first and I’ll contact you when I am ready to purchase. Most likely tomorrow afternoon. In the meantime, why don’t you enjoy my hospitality, hmmm?”

So we have to stay here for a day? Tch… Fine…

Captain’s Log:

Considering how crappy this place is, I’m going to stay on the ship instead of finding a room here.

Amber’s Log:

Hmmm… These people seem pretty uncooperative. Whatever, just some roughing up would solve the problem.
