Villain Ch 2028. Cursed By A Harem Author God

Evan sat cross-legged on his bed, back against the headboard, phone in one hand and a bag of half-eaten chips crumpled at his side. The soft hum of lo-fi beats played from his speaker in the background, but his attention was all on the call. His room was a quiet space… clean, minimal, a little too perfect for someone his age. The kind of room that always looked like it belonged to someone trying very hard to be unnoticeable.

“I’m serious,” Geralt said through the phone, his voice crackling slightly due to happiness. “Nine. Nine women, man. I’m starting to think your brother got cursed by a harem author god.”

Evan laughed, low and warm. “Yeah… at least it wasn’t ten. That would’ve felt excessive.”

“Oh, because nine is modest,” Geralt shot back, and the two of them cracked up again.

There was something comforting in the way Geralt said your brother. Not the Devil Emperor, not Mr. Goldborne. Just Allen. Like the guy who used to eat instant noodles with him and complain about how slow his download speed was.

Geralt exhaled, still chuckling. “At last, that bastard actually went and did it. Married. To nine girls. Can you believe it? Talk about greedy.”

Evan’s smile didn’t fade, but it shifted. His fingers curled tighter around the edge of his phone.

“Hey…” he said softly. “Don’t be harsh to him.”

Geralt went quiet for a beat. Then he replied, voice gentler now. “You know I didn’t mean it like that.”

“Yeah,” Evan said, nodding to himself. “I know.”

A small silence stretched between them, the easy kind that existed between people who didn’t always need words.

“So…” Geralt asked, almost too casually. “Are you gonna go? He invited you, right?”

Evan’s heart skipped. His breath caught a little.

That question.

That one question that had been clawing at the back of his mind for weeks.

He looked down at the carpet. Picked at a loose thread on the side of his blanket. His voice came out lower.

“I want to,” he said. “I really, really want to.”

He could hear the way Geralt shifted on the other end, probably sitting up straighter.

“But?”

“But I don’t know if I’ll be allowed to.”

Geralt sighed. “Evan…”

“I know,” Evan interrupted quickly, like he was trying to keep the words from becoming too heavy. “I know how it sounds. It’s just…”

He trailed off, biting his bottom lip.

“I’ve always been a good kid, you know?” he finally said. “I’ve always done everything they asked. Good grades. Clean room. No drama. No fights. No sneaking out.”

“Because of Allen?”

“Because I saw how they treated him,” Evan whispered. “Because I knew what would happen if I didn’t.”

His voice cracked, just a little. Just enough to betray how deep it sat, all of it.

“I watched my mom look through him like he wasn’t there,” Evan said softly, almost like he was admitting a crime. “I watched my dad talk to him like he was a problem. Like he wasn’t… ours.”

There was a pause. Long enough for silence to feel like static in his ear.

“I didn’t want to be treated like that,” he went on, voice quiet and raw. “So I behaved. I shut up. I played their game. Honor student, no parties, no talking back. Model son.” He swallowed, hard. “But it never felt fair. Not once.”

On the other end of the call, Geralt’s voice came low and steady. “You always took his side, Ev. Even when you couldn’t say it out loud.”

Evan gave a crooked, sad smile. “He knows. I think… he always knew. I texted him. I kept his old hoodies. Watched every match he ever played. Even the shitty ones. Even when I had to mute the audio so Mom wouldn’t hear.”

He laid back on the bed, phone pressed to his ear like it was the only lifeline to something that still felt real. He stared at the ceiling, searching for answers it couldn’t give.

“It’s just that… if I ask to go now, they’ll know. And my dad’s gonna flip.” He exhaled, bitter. “You’ve seen how he is. It won’t be just a no. It’ll be World War fucking III.”

And he didn’t know if he was ready for that war.

“I’ve seen how you are,” Geralt said firmly. “You’re not a kid anymore, Ev. You’ve got a voice now. You get to choose where you stand.”

Evan stayed quiet.

Geralt let the silence hang for a moment before adding, “Do you really want to miss your brother’s wedding because you were afraid of pissing off someone who’s already disappointed in you for breathing?”

Evan exhaled.

That one hit.

He closed his eyes. The scent of laundry detergent and lemon air freshener filled his room. So clean. So fake. He thought of Allen’s laugh. The way he used to flick Evan’s forehead when he got too serious. The time he patched up Evan’s scraped knee after Jason shoved him during a backyard argument.

“I want to go,” Evan said again, quieter now. “I want to sit in the front row and scream when they say ‘you may now kiss the brides.’ I want to dance like an idiot and see how crazy those girls are in real life.”

Geralt chuckled. “Some of them are scary hot. Don’t get yourself killed.”

Evan laughed again.

But then he sobered, voice tight.

“I just… don’t want to cause trouble. Not for Allen. Not for his day.”

Geralt exhaled. “You won’t. You showing up? That’s not trouble. That’s family. Real family.”

Evan felt his throat tighten.

“I’ll talk to your mom,” Geralt added. “See if she can help. Maybe she can talk to your dad.”

“I doubt it’ll change anything,” Evan whispered.

“Then we’ll figure out something else.”

Evan smiled again, fragile this time. “Thanks, Ger.”

“Always. You’re not alone in this, Evan. And neither is Allen.”

They didn’t say anything for a while after that.

The lo-fi music played on.

And somewhere, Evan felt a spark of hope begin to crawl out from under the years of silence.
