Villain Ch 2027. More Than A Dream
Allen chuckled again, softer this time, then leaned back in his chair and let the hum of their voices fill the space. He looked around the table, eyes drifting from one face to another.
From Shea still curled in his lap to Zoe beside him, from Jane quietly sipping her drink to Mila doodling love hearts into the corner of her notepad, from Alice balancing a cake fork between two fingers to Azura sitting with her hands still folded, eyes sparkling despite the way she kept nervously glancing down.
Yeah… this was more than he ever dreamed of. More than he ever hoped for. And it hit him, in a quiet and humbling sort of way. He was surrounded by the kind of people who made life something to look forward to.
He cleared his throat and said, “Okay… so anything else? Should we be taking care of something else?”
A few brows lifted, but nobody spoke at first.
“Or,” Allen added, raising an eyebrow, “should we go to dinner?”
Shea lifted her head from his shoulder and stretched. “I think that’s all. Unless someone forgot something major like… oh, I dunno, rings?”
Vivian raised her hand with a grin. “Already ordered. Custom made. Zoe double-checked the sizes.”
Zoe gave a small nod. “And the delivery schedule. And the inscriptions.”
Bella added, “The makeup artists are booked. The hair stylists, too. Don’t forget the backup team in case one of them gets food poisoning or something like that.”
Larissa tapped her phone screen and said, “Venue’s confirmed. Catering locked in. Sound system already tested twice. DJ has the playlist, no cheesy songs allowed.”
“Florists are settled,” Mila said with a nod. “Souvenirs packed and ready, too.”
“I still can’t believe that,” Jane muttered, twirling her spoon. “You know… I’m still kind of surprised the brands wanted to sponsor our wedding. Like… ten different items for each guest? That’s not even a souvenir bag anymore. It’s a hamper. A luxury hamper.”
Allen laughed. “I told Kai to keep it classy.”
“You told Kai to make it subtle and he gave every guest a thousand dollars in limited-edition skincare,” Jane said flatly. “Some of those creams cost more than my rent.”
“No they don’t,” Allen muttered.
“Yes they do,” Alice chimed in. “The gold serum alone—”
Jane held up a hand. “My point is… they’re not even getting much exposure, right? No cameras. No press. We’re not allowing media inside the wedding. So why are these high-end brands so eager to throw stuff at us? It’s not like they’re getting cover spreads out of it.”
Zoe finally spoke. “You’re wrong if you think like that,” she said, not unkindly. “The brands aren’t doing this for press exposure. Not the kind you’re thinking of. They’re doing it because Allen’s wedding guest list includes some of the most powerful people in the city. Silent wealth. Private investors. Government figures. People who don’t show up in articles but move things behind the scenes.”
She set her cup down and glanced around.
“They know Allen’s inner circle. They know his reach. And they’re betting on the fact that his friends and family have influence. If even one or two of them like the gifts enough to order more later? That’s worth more than any magazine feature,” Zoe said, her voice cool and steady like she was reading a stock report instead of explaining their wedding gifts.
It made sense. Chilling sense.
“They’re just using us as testers,” Jane muttered, brows still furrowed.
“Exactly,” Zoe replied. “But the luxury kind.”
Shea raised her hand, lazily twirling her straw between two fingers. “Also, don’t forget… if even one of those big shots decides they like the product? That’s a whole new investor pipeline for the brand. Like, we’re talking old-money families and serious players. The kind who don’t do product launches… they buy the company outright and let it sit in their portfolio for fifteen years.”
Vivian whistled low. “Damn. Didn’t think of that.”
Bella smirked. “I mean, if someone’s gonna test thousand-dollar perfume and twenty-karat eye cream, I’m glad it’s me.”
Vivian reached over and gave her a high-five. “Softest skin at the altar, baby.”
“I still think it’s wild,” Mila said, resting her chin on her hand. “They don’t even know if we’ll post about it or not.”
“They don’t need us to,” Alice cut in, leaning back. “Just being in proximity to the Goldborne name right now? That’s the marketing.”
“I still think it’s wild,” Mila said, resting her chin on her hand. “They don’t even know if we’ll post about it or not.”
“They don’t care,” Zoe answered. “Because if someone at the wedding gets photographed wearing one of the items after the ceremony, even if it’s in a private post, that’s enough. That’s how subtle wealth works.”
“Smart,” Allen said, finally speaking again. “Efficient.”
Vivian looked at him sideways. “You’re not mad about it?”
He shrugged. “Free stuff. Happy guests. Brands trying to prove they know taste. And if it means Azura gets a diamond lip balm, Jane gets a velvet robe, and Alice gets tech they can’t even buy on the shelves yet… I’m not complaining.”
Azura’s cheeks went pink. “I… I like the lip balm.”
“I love the robe,” Jane admitted.
Alice just gave a thumbs-up. “Tech’s dope.”
Allen looked around again. They were happy. That was the goal. Not the brands. Not the politics. Just them. Being happy. Being here.
He exhaled and finally stood, stretching a little as Shea slid off his lap. The room smelled like sugar and tea and warmth. The city beyond the windows glowed with twilight gold.
He smiled at them. “Dinner, then?”
Zoe stood. “We already booked the table.”
Mila grabbed her purse. “And Kai sent the car. Black van. Heated seats. He knows.”
Vivian checked her lipstick in her compact. “Let’s go. I want steak.”
“I want champagne,” Bella said.
“I want cake,” Shea added.
Allen opened the door for them. “You’re getting all three.”
Jane walked past him, brushing her fingers against his as she passed. “You sure you’re ready to handle all of us?”
Allen didn’t hesitate.
“I already am.”
