Villain Ch 2024. Wedding Prep
Allen saw it.
He didn’t say anything.
He was too busy setting up the next project.
His name was everywhere.
But the people who knew him?
They knew why.
Because Allen wasn’t trying to be famous.
He was trying to build something that couldn’t be taken from him.
Not again.
He stared up at the billboard across the plaza. His own eyes stared back, fierce and unreal. Then his phone buzzed.
A message from Kai.
“The venue’s locked. Send the guest list when you’re ready.”
Allen smiled.
He turned toward the black car waiting by the curb, fingers running along the polished edge of his phone, still vibrating faintly from notifications he hadn’t checked yet. Wedding prep could not wait until after lunch.
He still had a meeting at The Cake Store.
And eight women waiting to argue over cake flavors.
The car hummed softly as it turned into a quiet part of the city, a little tucked-away block near the east gardens. The Cake Store wasn’t flashy. It didn’t need to be. The name was hand-lettered in cursive across the matte glass storefront, outlined in rose gold, soft and chic. The windows were lined with white curtains, tied loosely with velvet ribbons, and the smell.
Warm vanilla, almond cream, lemon zest, cinnamon sugar, rich cocoa… it spilled out of the building like a spell.
Inside, the lighting was soft and golden, with pastel wallpaper, cream-marble counters, little vases of dried roses on every table, and display cakes that looked more like art than food. One had cascading sugar flowers the size of his fist. Another was painted with edible watercolor like some Monet fever dream.
And sitting in the corner at a massive round table?
His girls.
They had claimed the entire back half of the store. The table was already covered in notepads, tablets, fabric swatches, and at least five half-finished coffee drinks. A few empty sample plates sat abandoned at the center like tiny casualties of war.
Zoe was seated calmly with her tablet angled upright, stylus in hand. Shea was sipping from a glass of fruit tea, legs crossed, foot bouncing slightly.
Vivian had a highlighter in her mouth and her phone in her hand. Larissa was halfway into an argument with Jane about symmetry.
Alice and Mila were on the opposite ends of the flavor samples, tasting cake with little forks like they were judging a bake-off.
Bella was texting.
Azura was quietly watching them all, cheeks a little pink, hands folded on her lap.
Allen barely made it five steps in before Vivian waved him down.
“There he is,” she said without looking up. “The man of the hour. Come take responsibility for this mess.”
“I’m not even late,” Allen said, holding both palms up.
Mila grinned at him. “Emotionally, you’re already late.”
“Help us,” Bella said with the tone of someone begging a lifeguard while holding a pool noodle.
Jane pointed at the mess of sketches. “They all want different cakes. And they all want to be right.”
Larissa crossed her arms. “Because I am right. Minimalist is timeless.”
Vivian immediately pointed a fork at her. “But glam is unforgettable.”
Alice nodded seriously. “Okay but hear me out, it should be shaped like a console. Retro, maybe? Or a cube.”
Zoe sipped her drink without looking up. “I already vetoed that. It’s a wedding, not an arcade.”
Shea raised her hand like she was in school. “I just want something that tastes like berries.”
Mila bit into a chocolate sample and moaned. “This one. This one is evil. Put it on the list.”
Azura finally spoke, voice soft. “Um… I like strawberry. And maybe something cute? But not, like… too pink.”
Allen took the only empty seat. “So. You’re all planning separate weddings now?”
“No,” they said at once.
Then they all looked at each other.
“Well technically—” Vivian started.
Jane cut her off. “Don’t. Don’t start with technically.”
“It’s not that complicated,” Larissa said, flipping a page in her notes. “Just three or four tiers. Clean base. Elegant accents. Maybe a touch of silver.”
“Or we do a dark theme,” Jane suggested. “Black and gold. Ominous flowers. Skull lace.”
Mila held up a fork. “Okay but hear me out. White chocolate roses.”
Vivian leaned in. “Crown on top.”
Alice chewed thoughtfully. “Cake shaped like the Cursed Crypts where we met?”
Allen rubbed his temple. “Please tell me someone has a list.”
Zoe handed him her tablet. “I’ve compiled the suggestions. There are thirty-four. Not including the cursed sketch Vivian made of the cake shaped like your face.”
Vivian winked. “It had icing hair.”
Azura giggled softly behind her hand.
Allen scrolled through the list. The flavor combinations alone were chaos.
Chocolate ganache with lavender mousse.
Strawberry and yuzu with vanilla bean.
Champagne sponge with rose cream.
Earl Grey chiffon.
Red velvet.
Pistachio-cardamom.
Hazelnut praline.
Lemon-poppyseed.
It was like an entire dessert book decided to explode on one wedding.
And then the decorations…
Pearl beading.
Sugar flowers.
Metallic foil accents.
Pressed edible lace.
Black mirror glaze.
Stenciled constellations.
Mini figurines.
Floating tiers.
One request for a tier shaped like a cat paw. That was definitely Bella.
Allen looked around the table.
All of them were waiting.
Not just for a decision.
For his decision.
That kind of trust was terrifying.
And beautiful.
He closed the tablet.
Took a breath.
Then he said, “Nine.”
They blinked.
“Nine tiers,” Allen repeated. “Nine of you. Nine tiers cake. Each one gets their flavor. Their decoration. Their style. From base to crown.”
Silence.
Then Vivian gasped. “Wait. You’re serious?”
“I’m always serious,” he said, deadpan.
Shea squealed and hugged her drink. “I love him.”
Bella reached over and poked his arm. “Okay but… you’re not gonna cry with the price?”
He smirked. “No.”
Zoe looked amused. “You realize that means it’ll be massive. Centerpiece massive.”
“That’s fine,” Allen said. “It’s not just a cake. It’s the history of everything we built together. In sugar.”
Larissa exhaled slowly. “Damn. That’s… actually beautiful.”
Jane crossed her arms but didn’t argue. “If you’re going to make us all cry at the reception, at least make the top tier chocolate death.”
Mila leaned into Allen’s shoulder. “What about yours?”
He looked at her.
Then at the others.
“My tier?” he said. “Will taste like victory. And stubbornness.”
Azura raised a finger. “Maybe… vanilla with espresso?”
“Perfect,” Allen said. “Put it on the top. Make it ten tiers.”
And somehow, just like that, the arguing stopped.
Ten tiers. Nine women.
One cake.
One wedding.
And the man they all loved, sitting in the middle, like he’d never wanted anything else but this.
