Capítulo 2006: A Hell of A Match

Villain Ch 2006. A Hell of A Match

Red’s VR pod opened.

Warm light from the stadium stage bled into the narrow compartment, illuminating the sweat on his brow and the subtle tremble in his limbs. His heart still pounded in his chest like a war drum, the echo of that final clash ringing through his bones.

Then a familiar voice cut through the chaos.

“Red!”

Arms wrapped around him before he could fully stand, and the air rushed out of his lungs in a surprised grunt.

“Holy sh*t, you did it!” Mastercraft bellowed, nearly lifting him off the ground in a crushing hug. “I thought we were gonna have to jump back in for a damn rematch!”

“Don’t thank me,” Red panted, voice low, voice hoarse. He grinned tiredly and turned his head. “Thank him.”

He gestured at the figure stepping out of the adjacent pod, Alex.

The soft-spoken priest barely looked up as he was pulled into the group. His glasses sat crooked on his face, cheeks flushed with effort, but that warm, small smile stayed intact. Just like always.

“I just bought him some time,” Alex said with a shrug, but his voice was clearer than usual. Firmer. “My mana was nearly empty anyway. Better to give it to someone who can actually swing a sword.”

Red let out a breath and shoved a hand through his damp hair. “You didn’t just buy me time, man. You gave me everything you had. And you tanked Arcana’s death blow without blinking. You realize that, right?”

Alex gave a half-laugh, half-cough. “It was worth it. I knew you could finish it. If you didn’t… I’d just haunt you.”

“You’d be the most passive-aggressive ghost ever,” Mastercraft snorted.

The group broke into laughter, the kind that came from relief, exhaustion, and maybe a little disbelief. They made it. Somehow.

Behind them, the crowd was still screaming. The chants had evolved now.

“Red! Red! Alex! Red! Alex!”

The sound thundered like a heartbeat through the arena, like the very building recognized what had happened in that ring.

Alex blushed deeply. “Oh no. Please don’t let that trend.”

“Oh, it’s trending,” Mastercraft teased, elbowing him. “Bet your fan forum’s already updated. Gonna call you The Martyr or something cool like that.”

“Please, no,” Alex mumbled, pushing up his glasses.

Red clapped a hand on his shoulder, steady and warm. “Doesn’t matter what they call you. You earned it.”

Across the stage, the Ironclad Legion was watching. Their avatars were gone, their pods open. No taunts. No bitterness. Just silence and tired smiles.

Azura rubbed the back of her neck and sighed. “Tch… sorry. I messed up. I was careless at the end.”

“You weren’t,” Arcana replied simply, his voice a little rough but calm. He didn’t look away from the other team. “It wasn’t carelessness. They were just… better. Slightly.”

Azura turned toward him with a raised brow. “Slightly?”

Arcana smiled faintly. “Hey, I’m not gonna give them too much credit.”

They both chuckled. Then Arcana’s gaze locked on Alex again.

“That shy priest,” he murmured, “is the best support player I’ve ever seen.”

Azura jabbed him lightly in the ribs. “Don’t say it like you’re not a good leader too.”

“I’m a great leader,” Arcana replied smugly. “But credit where credit’s due. That was a hell of a match.”

They nodded to each other like warriors from opposite sides of a battlefield who could still recognize the skill in each other’s swords.

The staff announced a fifteen-minute break before the final round.

“Intermission: 15 Minutes. Final Round Preparation Commencing.”

The arena lights softened slightly. Spectators were allowed to leave their seats to grab drinks, use the restroom, or just breathe again. The energy didn’t die, it just shifted, thrumming low and hot like an engine before launch.

Because this wasn’t just any match next.

This was the final round.

Celestial Vanguard vs. Order of Valiance.

Tension wrapped the stadium like a chokehold.

The cameras zoomed in. Broadcasters reset their panels. Fans refreshed the betting lines. Drinks spilled. Hands trembled.

This wasn’t just gaming anymore.

It was a war story.

Inside the waiting room, both teams sat across from each other. Celestial Vanguard. Red, Alex, Mastercraft, and their backups on one side. Elio and his team. Sachi, Eren, Gil, Jacob on the other.

Water bottles popped open. Energy bar snacks got unwrapped. Strategies whispered low. No one smiled.

Except Sachi.

She leaned toward Elio, poking his side gently with a gloved finger. “You ready to break the arena, captain?”

Elio didn’t answer. Not right away.

His eyes were on Red. Watching. Processing.

Because for the first time… he wasn’t sure they had the upper hand.

Red had fought to the very last second. With only seventeen milliseconds left.

Seventeen.

That was grit. That was the kind of thing legends got made from.

And Alex…

That man wasn’t just a support. He was a miracle caster.

“We’ll have to be perfect,” Elio said softly.

Jacob stretched his arms above his head, voice dry. “No pressure, huh.”

Gil chuckled. “Says the man who solo-kited a raid boss last week with 1% HP and zero pants. You came back stronger after you left the team for a while.”

“That was different,” Jacob argued. “That was fashion PvP. This is actual death.”

“Virtual death,” Sachi corrected.

“Still hurts my soul.”

Eren finished his protein bar and stood, rolling out his shoulders like a boxer preparing for a title fight. “I don’t care who’s better. We finish this clean.”

Sachi looked up at Elio. “You sure you’re okay?”

He nodded once, slowly. “I’m good. I need this. Not just to win. But to prove I’m not the same guy I was.”

They all looked at him now. And for the first time, Elio didn’t flinch under it.

The announcement chimed again.

“Teams, please return to your pods. Final Round Initiating.”

The lights in the arena flared back to full.

Each team filed toward their stations in silence, like soldiers walking onto sacred ground.

Allen and his girls watched from their VIP row. Even they had gone quiet. Jane’s fingers curled tight around the armrest. Zoe sat forward. Bella bit her lip.

Shea muttered, “He’s coming for you, Allen. He really is.”

Allen didn’t respond. His eyes were locked on the dome.

This wasn’t just about him.

This was about two guilds, two leaders, two sets of ideals crashing at terminal velocity.

As the pods sealed shut and the system loaded in, one by one, the avatars appeared inside the battle dome.

Five vs. five.

Celestial Vanguard materialized first. Red in his reinforced Knight armor, sword resting over his shoulder like it belonged there. Alex beside him in radiant robes. Mastercraft with his heavy forge weaponry. Two more filled in beside them.

Then came the Order of Valiance.

Elio’s Paladin armor glinted in brilliant silver, his sword long and blessed. Sachi moved into position. Jacob snapped his staff into place, flame already coiling around his feet. Gil appeared in a whisper of shadows, dual daggers gleaming. And Eren slammed down with a shockwave, speed buffs already active.

The final match.

The grand finale.

The arena waited.

Everyone held their breath.

The countdown began.

[Final Round: Celestial Vanguard vs. Order of Valiance]

[Match begins in: 10… 9… 8…]

And no one blinked.
