Chapter 383: Chapter 382: Using rafts 4

They had a lot of water ability users and the zombie obviously had a higher level, so since it was already dealt with, it was better to get the crystal on its head.

Dan also followed his words immediately and pierced the head of the zombie with metal, easily getting the zombie crystal.

As soon as Luciel saw that Dan successfully got the zombie crystal, he immediately let go of the zombie corpse.

After the zombie corpse was thrown back into the water, Edna finally reacted and said, “Thank you very much!”

They had dealt with the zombie in less than a minute, so Edna, who was the target, finally reacted.

“I’m sorry, I wasn’t able to notice and react immediately,” Dan also said in a very apologetic tone.

Dan was the one mainly in charge of protecting the raft that they were in, so it was understandable why he was very apologetic.

“Nevermind, that zombie was very fast. It was faster than the zombies that we had encountered before, so it’s understandable that you weren’t able to react immediately. Just be sure to be more alert later on.”

The zombie was really fast, and it appeared very near them. That’s why Dan wasn’t able to do anything at the start.

But if Dan had been more alert, he could have definitely blocked it at the very beginning.

However, nothing had happened to them in the past days, and they hadn’t seen zombies jumping out of the water.

They had also just come out of the area where they had a hard time passing through and were having their lunch, so most of their nerves had probably relaxed a bit.

That’s why Luciel didn’t blame Dan at all, as he was also able to react immediately after the first attack of the zombie was blocked, which meant he was just slower than him by a few seconds.

If Dan hadn’t reacted at all or reacted really late, then he would have had a problem and deserved to be blamed.

But Dan still did a good job, and Edna was also safe, so everything was okay.

“I’m also sorry, I didn’t manage to give a warning. When I noticed a disturbance underneath, it was already out,” Astrid also said.

“Nevermind, as I said, that zombie was very fast so it’s not your problem.”

Astrid was in charge of moving their raft and was already concentrating on moving it faster, so her focus was on the surface water and she probably didn’t pay attention to the deeper part of the water as it would consume more of her energy.

Their main focus was to move as fast as possible, so Astrid and the others who were in charge of moving their rafts focused on controlling the surface water to speed up and avoid obstacles along the way.

So, if there were really zombies in the deeper part of the water, then they wouldn’t be able to detect it.

And they weren’t in charge of combat to begin with, so even though she wasn’t able to give a warning, she didn’t need to be sorry at all, as she was also doing her main task properly.

Edna also said that they really didn’t need to say sorry as she wasn’t harmed, and in fact, it was her fault for not being strong enough, that’s why she still needed the others to save her.

They were all saying that it was their fault, so after saying that no one was at fault, Luciel didn’t pay attention to them and instead started eating his lunch again.

Even though he immediately reacted and held the vines that were connected to their rafts and controlled them, he also didn’t forget about his lunch and still held it in one of his hands.

So, after dealing with the zombie, he immediately began to eat as he was still hungry while the others were still focused on what had just happened.

The others had also slowed down as soon as they noticed what was happening to them, and those who were nearby were all checking if they were really okay.

They also became more vigilant and were checking their surroundings properly. Treyton also gave another warning and asked the others not to let go of their vigilance even though they couldn’t see anything.

Before they left at the beginning, they had already thought of the possibility of zombies popping out of the water, as they had already seen that zombies wouldn’t die just because they were underwater.

Zombies had always been capable of standing up after the flood had dried out. So if they had been strong enough to resist the water or if they were just hiding on some debris underneath, then they could easily attack them.

The flood had certainly carried and hidden those zombies underwater, so they already knew that zombies might pop out after seeing them.

However, they hadn’t encountered such a thing in the past few days, so they had probably subconsciously relaxed a bit.

Because of what happened, all the others remained more vigilant even though they couldn’t see anything at all.

And what happened seemed to be a signal, as from time to time a zombie would pop out of the water and attack them.

Fortunately, the zombies that were coming out weren’t all that fast like the first zombie that had come out of the water.

So, those that were in charge of guarding their rafts were able to deal with them easily.

However, their luck was probably really used up, because when it was nearly 3 p.m., the sky became darker and darker, which was a precursor of another heavy rain.

Because of the dark skies, Treyton ordered them to pick up their speed again to look for a place to stay.

They weren’t sure how long it would rain again after it started raining, so they took a longer time looking for a building that was in good condition.
