Chapter 362: Chapter 361: Encountering mutant cats and meeting Rhet
He hadn’t tasted most of the brands of the chocolates and biscuits, so he didn’t bother asking Theo to put them in a separate place anymore as he had planned before, and just let Theo put all of them in his space.
Since there wasn’t a lot of damage in the two warehouses, Theo managed to put all the goods in his space quickly.
Afterwards, they went to the three warehouses with heavy damage, and Luciel saw that while there were indeed a lot of chocolates and other food in them, unfortunately many weren’t edible anymore as they were already badly damaged.
The other members still tried to look for those that weren’t affected, and after two hours of cleaning up, they only managed to save a few that were still edible and put all of them in Theo’s space.
After making sure they got everything they could from the warehouse, they finally rested in one of the warehouses that didn’t have much damage after cleaning it up further to make it livable.
It was already afternoon, and because of the weather it was dark early, so Treyton didn’t plan to go back and had all of them rest in the warehouse for the time being.
The number of zombies outside wasn’t a lot because of the weather, so the warehouse was indeed still livable.
They managed to stay in the warehouse without anything disturbing their rest at night.
But even though nothing happened, all of them still left early in the morning.
Yesterday, they had traveled without any trouble aside from going slower because Zam and the others had to arrange the road they were using, but this time they encountered some trouble on the way back.
They came across some mutant cats that blocked the road. There were at least ten cats in their way.
All the house cats that were originally small were now at least one meter large, and the largest among them even reached two meters.
Three of those cats attacked them on the road immediately. If the people driving hadn’t been skilled, their RVs would certainly have suffered.
All the cats were very fast, so after dodging the attacks, the other members immediately retaliated and tried to drive away the cats.
At first, they only tried to drive the cats away, because they knew mutant cats were already intelligent, so they attempted to show their strength to scare them off.
Unfortunately, because of the weather, the cats probably couldn’t find any food, so even though they saw them releasing their powers, the cats still insisted on attacking.
Since the mutant cats didn’t retreat, the others had no choice but to fight them to make them move away.
There were only ten cats, so Luciel just watched as Treyton and the others fought them.
Aside from their large size, the cats also moved even faster than the mutant dogs they often encountered, so Treyton and the others were more cautious in dealing with them.
The cats were obviously moving as a group, because as soon as one was about to be dealt with, the others immediately helped to free it.
They were already intelligent enough that Treyton and the others couldn’t kill them quickly.
After thirty minutes, they only managed to kill two mutant cats, while the others had varying degrees of injuries.
Seeing two of their companions dead and unable to deal proper damage to Treyton and the other members, the mutant cats, though obviously still unwilling, retreated.
When the cats left, those who had fought them returned to their RVs to treat their injuries.
Because of the speed of those cats, the members who fought them had also suffered scratches from their claws even though they tried to avoid them.
Nathan, Camille, and the others treated the wounds as quickly as they could before they set off again.
They drove away as soon as possible because the fight had certainly made a lot of noise, which might attract other animals to the site.
They could certainly still deal with other animals that might attack them, but while they were fighting the mutant cats it had started snowing.
The snow was getting heavier, and since they were only halfway to the place where they had stayed before, they didn’t want to waste more time dealing with more mutant animals.
The snow was getting heavier and the wind was also picking up. Fortunately, the road they were taking was still the same one that Zam and the others had arranged, so it was easier for them to return to the building they had used before.
At least they managed to return before the strong blizzard came.
After they put everything in Theo’s space and got all the things that they needed, they rushed back to the third and fourth floors that they had used before.
However, before they could even reach the third floor, Wes, who was leading the others, suddenly stopped.
Luciel and the others, who weren’t far behind, also stopped because they heard someone walking around the third floor.
Nathan, who had stayed behind because he was talking to Astrid and the others, asked, “What’s wrong? Why are you guys stopping?”
“Someone is inside,” Treyton answered.
When the others heard that someone was inside, they immediately quieted down.
They listened for a while and confirmed that there was only one person on the third floor, and they also couldn’t hear any activity on the fourth floor.
“There’s only one person inside. Let’s go and check it out. But don’t forget to still be careful,” Treyton said and signaled Wes to open the door.
The door was locked, so in the end, it was Treyton who opened it with his powers.
After the door was opened, Wes and the others entered first and went to where they had heard the sound of someone walking.
The person was probably checking out the rooms on the third floor, as they saw some doors opened, and there they finally spotted the person who had entered.
“Stop. Who are you? And what are you doing here?” Wes coldly asked while pointing a gun at the person in the room.
“A-aaah!” the man screamed as soon as he heard Wes’s voice, stumbling down onto the bed before stopping and immediately saying, “P-please d-don’t kill me!”
Luciel saw it all happen because he wanted to see who would travel alone in such weather and in such a place.
The place they were in was already very near the city center, so Luciel was curious to see what kind of person could still move around despite being close to an area where there were a lot of zombies.
But he didn’t expect the person to be so easily frightened, and he really didn’t look like someone who could survive alone in such an environment.
“Don’t worry, we are all civilized people. As long as you don’t do anything bad to us and answer all our questions properly, we won’t do anything,” Treyton said.
“T-thank y-you! I-I will a-answer your questions,” the man replied nervously.
“Good. The room here is not enough. Let’s move to the lounge,” Treyton said and headed there.
Theo, who saw them, didn’t wait for anyone to ask and already brought out the sofas that were previously put in the lounge.
The others also arranged those sofas immediately, so Luciel just sat beside Treyton and waited for the person being escorted by Wes.
They put the person in front of them, while Wes and Liam stood guard on both sides of the sofa to prevent him from escaping.
“Ok, start by introducing your name. Tell us your story, and why you are here alone,” Yang asked, taking over as Treyton had already signaled him to do so, while Treyton and Luciel just listened from the side.
“M-my name is R-Rhet. I-I live in the a-apartment building beside this,” Rhet said nervously while pointing at the smaller building nearby.
“Then who are you living with?” Yang asked.
“N-no one. I-I live alone.”
“You live alone?”
Rhet nodded before saying, “Y-yes.”
“Do you mean to say that you’ve just been living alone recently? Were you separated from your group?” Yang asked again.
“N-no, I was alone s-since the beginning.”
“You mean from the start of the appearance of the zombies until now, you’ve been living alone?”
“Y-yes. Even b-before the appearance of the z-zombies, I was already living alone in my apartment.”
“If what you’re saying is true, then with all the zombies around, and with the lack of supplies, how did you manage to survive until now?”
“I-I didn’t lack supplies. I-I already had a lot of f-food and other things in my apartment. M-my original neighbor also had a lot of stock in his apartment.”
“Oh. Why do you have a lot of stock together with your neighbor?”
“I-I stocked a lot b-because of the n-news that a lot of p-places had been flooded and other places were also e-experiencing different problems. I-I was originally a homebody so I wanted to s-stock more in case s-something happened.”
