Chapter 330: Chapter 329: Sparring with others 7
Calvin and the others had already arranged a proper study plan for the kids. They had collected a lot of different books, so finding materials suitable for the kids wasn’t that difficult.
Of course, the things they were studying weren’t exactly the same as what they would have studied in school if schools were still functioning.
They focused more on common knowledge that the kids should know, like basic math and identification of important things. As for the other academic subjects, they were temporarily set aside.
They also added more relevant subjects, like where to hit zombies if necessary and how to identify weaknesses in animals.
These were added to what Ashlee and the others were learning since they were essential in their current environment.
The team members were taking turns teaching the kids. Aunt Cana was also willing to help, not just with drawing, but also with teaching simple things to the kids. So, most of the members were now responsible for teaching the kids what they needed to survive.
Aside from Ashlee and the younger ones, Astrid and the older kids were also studying more survival-related content, mainly how to identify the weaknesses of zombies and animals.
They were also learning basic medical knowledge so they could treat themselves in case of an emergency.
In addition, they were taught how to identify different plants, since it was important to recognize which ones could be eaten while they were outside.
Most of them had grown up in cities, and some didn’t even know what the leaves of strawberries or potatoes looked like.
Some of them didn’t even recognize certain vegetables in their raw form, since they had only ever seen them as part of cooked dishes.
So, they needed to learn all those things so they could also identify useful plants when they were outside.
Actually, many of the older members didn’t know what those plants really looked like when they were growing outdoors either, since most of them had also grown up in cities and never had to pay attention to those things.
For example, Treyton and Nathan didn’t know much about plants aside from a few they had seen while traveling somewhere, like rice and some of the more common ones.
Well, Nathan was actually better off since he could also identify some herbal plants, as he had studied them before.
Because of that, the older members were also learning about those things whenever they had time. They used Nichole and Jane’s abilities to show what the plants actually looked like, as long as they had some seeds with them.
Their backyard garden had become full of different plants that were used as real-life examples, especially for those who hadn’t seen them before.
As for Luciel, he didn’t need to study those plants anymore, since he had already learned about them in his past life.
Even though the plants in his past life had mutated and become different or even poisonous, Luciel still had to study what the original plants looked like and understand their characteristics.
Even if those plants had basically disappeared after mutating, the knowledge was still useful because some mutated plants would retain their strongest traits and evolve even further in that direction. Or, if they didn’t retain those traits, it would often be the opposite.
That’s why Luciel and the others still had to study various plants so they could be at least somewhat prepared when dealing with mutant plants.
As a plant user, Luciel had also been very interested in learning about plant characteristics, so he had memorized a lot of information from different books and from his experiences fighting mutant plants.
He was actually the same as the others, having also grown up in the city. He only knew more about plants than others because he had participated in variety shows featuring rural life.
He only knew about the plants he had seen in those shows. Of course, he had a lot of ornamental plants before, but those were just for display. So, he really only started learning more about plants after he gained his plant superpowers.
Luciel had to study a lot of plant knowledge as soon as he got his powers so he could use them efficiently.
Before their mission this time, Treyton actively urged the others to learn more about plants, since one of their main goals was to find food.
Even those who weren’t motivated at first started cramming so they wouldn’t have any problems when going outside.
As for Luciel, he wasn’t included among those who still had a lot to learn in order to identify things outside the base.
So, the people in their team still had a lot to learn, even though things were already chaotic, not just Ashlee and the other kids.
Luciel just glanced at the kids studying and then went upstairs with Treyton to freshen up before dinner.
Their dinner wasn’t ready yet, so Luciel also soaked in the bathtub with Treyton to relax their tired bodies.
“You went out this morning, right? How’s the situation outside?” Luciel asked lazily, his eyes still closed as he enjoyed the warm water.
“The soldiers and people in the base were still cleaning up the aftermath when I went out this morning. They’ll probably finish the basic cleanup by this evening. Fixing everything that was destroyed by those birds will take longer, though.
By the way, you’ve become quite popular in the base because of what you did yesterday. When I went to the military area, a lot of people were still talking about it.
Many also came looking for you to thank you personally for saving them. Of course, some people were looking for you for other reasons.”
“The military didn’t spread my information, right?”
“Yes, they warned those who already know you not to spread anything about you. But they didn’t stop the word about your deeds yesterday because it’s good for the base if people know there’s someone powerful here. You don’t mind, right?”
