Capítulo 767: The Booth Decision
Adrian, who had been holding it in for too long, silently screamed inside. He wanted to slam his head on the desk. Or slam someone else’s head on the desk. Or both.
Because now there was a royal delegation waiting to be squeezed into a five-hundred-square-meter booth… while the booths around them stretched up to three or four thousand square meters?
The old geezers were folding like dry leaves under sunlight, and Adrian knew they were doomed.
Sure enough, it was the sound of the guillotine falling that came after all those words were thrown back at them.
Kyle Nox, with the same bright and innocent smile, actually said, “Chairman Lan, would it be possible to see the list of all available slots for sale?”
There was no list. Kyle knew that very well. But save for Xavier, Noah, and Ada, the rest looked genuinely excited, as if such a list really did exist.
And that stung. It stung the dignity of every official who definitely did not practice fairness during the allocation.
Eventually, Chairman Lan sighed because there was simply no other way left. He had hoped they would not need to explain this to avoid resentment, but how could they stay silent when it had already reached this point?
“I would also like to apologize for this. Unfortunately, we made a grave mistake in allowing the other guilds to purchase the remaining slots before speaking with your guild. As a result, within the convention layout, there are only two viable spaces left. The one in front of the stage and the original area assigned to DG.”
Gasps came immediately. And Luca looked ready to cry from the terrible news.
Chairman Lan expected an outburst. Honestly, an explosion in his face would have been easier to handle than the look he was getting from the young cadet. Anything but that expression.
“This is probably vexing and unfair, so please allow us to waive the fees as part of our apology.”
Even if the others wanted to react, what could they say when even the combined total of the two spaces still would not reach a thousand square meters?
Everyone looked down or sideways, trying to escape the gaze of someone who looked as though his pet had been kicked.
But just as they were doing that, one adjutant became busy fiddling with his terminal.
Suddenly, a second holographic projection layered itself over the plan for the Annual Expo.
It was the original blueprint of ISEC.
But instead of being helpful, everyone simply stared at him.
Luca, however… froze.
The realization that had broken his heart just moments ago suddenly wavered. He leaned in.
Huh?
Because when he looked at Kyle’s overlay… it did not look like the hall lacked space at all.
So the almost despondent guild leader tilted his head and pointed. “Excuse me, Chairman Lan. All these empty spaces… are none of them really usable?”
He pointed at several clear, empty spots. Then he looked up at the organizers’ projection again.
Chairman Lan answered patiently. “While those areas are not occupied, they are left that way because they are either utility areas, impossible to access locations, or places that would have no foot traffic.”
Luca blinked.
The little money-grubber could not understand why that was a problem.
Utility areas? Impossible to access? No foot traffic?
Didn’t that just mean they needed to find a way to make them accessible? And for areas with no foot traffic, didn’t that just mean they needed to find a way to bring people there?
How was that not good?
Luca frowned, brows furrowed in deep confusion.
Kyle noticed at once.
“Sir,” Kyle said, voice polite. “Considering there are no other spaces to buy, would you allow us to buy and make use of areas originally not part of the Expo plan?”
“Huh? Lord Nox, are you saying you want to choose from those spaces?”
Kyle nodded.
But surprisingly, the organizers, aside from Chairman Lan, exchanged uneasy looks. They did not seem pleased with that idea at all.
Luca, however, thought it was brilliant. D-29 had shown him footage of the hall, and he could not believe they had simply abandoned so much space.
Before anyone else could speak, Luca hurried forward.
“Sir, we appreciate the gesture of decreasing the stage area for us as compensation. But it would be better not to decrease public spaces because it would affect everyone.”
“Instead, would it be possible to let us use the area closer to our original location? Rather than the one in the middle of the hall?”
Everyone stared at him.
To give up such a prime spot in exchange for an outdoor plot?
“Lord Luca, there are scheduled rains during the duration of the expo. That’s why the whole venue is indoors. Are you saying you’d be alright with that?”
“Oh. That is understandable. But aside from the rain, the foot traffic, and the lack of facilities to build on, it should be okay, right?”
Silence fell like a hammer.
His words were too honest. Too straightforward. And definitely too difficult to refuse. Because everything he said had already been stacked against the location.
Even the others began nodding. Who cared about a prime location when their guild master just traded it for a blank plot with absolute conviction?
Chairman Lan hesitated. “Guild Master Luca, are you sure about that? There are only a few more days left. Would that sudden change be alright for your booth?”
Honestly, the question was useless because they’d never really been able to prepare for the location, considering how late they learned of it. But the Chairman had to ask because what if they received negative feedback for allowing such a thing to happen?
But of course, it would be fine. In fact, Luca felt they were being extremely generous by giving the area for free.
In his mind, they had offered such good compensation. But how could they not, when Kyle had already handed several legal documents regarding the site’s use?
Surely they wouldn’t dream of taking back the space after realizing what kind of mistake they had made, right?
Well, they could try.
