Capítulo 754: The Shadiest Deal
With what was probably the shadiest deal since the Federation’s founding, the Elven King demanded that the newly freed princess return and hand over the Crown Prince unharmed. Only then would she receive the antidote to the special poison they had given her upon her release.
Tsk.
The ex-princess did not like that one bit, but she figured this way she would be able to fix everything. In fact, she was rather confident that she would be able to get back everything that should have been hers in the first place.
So she embarked on a personal quest to give back as much as she had received.
Then again, was she not the closest person to the prince? Was she not the most perfect candidate for mimicking him?
She chuckled, a sly grin forming as she decided where she would start.
But contrary to what she expected to be an easy infiltration, the determined criminal found it difficult to get inside the rumored stronghold where her cousin was staying.
And the main issue? Scent.
Those blasted orcs had such insane noses that it had been impossible to pass off even as a random server.
Even if she managed to polymorph perfectly, mimicking their appearance, attire, gait, and usual movements, none of it worked in the face of that stinking smell.
Even those orcs who slept on duty would wake up the moment they caught an unfamiliar scent, which forced her to suddenly change into something as stupid and vulnerable as a fly just to escape.
In the end, she was forced to stick to polymorphing as such because nothing else was working, and she was close to running out of time.
But why was she so opposed to polymorphing into an insect or a bug? That was because she would not be able to carry the prince out if she appeared as one. Moreover, there was this insane rumor floating around that even insects were not allowed near where Silarion was.
So how could she risk being killed for that cousin of hers?
Therefore, the annoyed princess decided to take it as slowly as possible. She prepared a safe house where she rested, documented, and prepared for every infiltration.
In the end, she even returned to the Elven King to barter for time by giving information and telling him about her most recent discoveries.
First, she told him about the significance of scent. At first, it did not seem important to him, but he became interested and granted her time when she said it would be critical for Prince Silarion.
Because, unless they wanted the orcs to be able to consistently find him, then they had better think of a way to take out that mating scent that Silarion now carried.
Second, and probably the more important reason for her return, was her demand for assistance because she had learned that the Orcish Prince would be leaving the stronghold to deal with the fighting on one of the borders himself.
As expected, the Elven King reacted to that and promised to intensify the battle so they could buy more time for the infiltration.
Then one day, after witnessing a tearful and cringey goodbye from that doomed couple, the princess-turned-fly saw the perfect opportunity to nab her target.
It happened in the dead of night. The halls were quiet, the torches dim, and the air so still that every footstep felt too loud.
The princess slipped into the chamber quietly, her movements precise and practiced now. After being forced to infiltrate to fix her life, how could she not have gotten any better?
Then again, the decrease in the number of guards also probably played a role in how she finally reached her destination.
They probably thought they were being clever, pretending that Silarion would leave with the Orc Prince. But did they really think no one would notice their real plans?
Laughable.
Sure enough, before her, lying peacefully on the bed, was Prince Silarion. His features were soft in sleep, his hair spread across the pillow, and his breathing steady after days of tension.
He looked so calm. So unbothered. So annoyingly serene.
She stepped closer, her eyes narrowing with amusement. She could have captured him just like this, asleep and defenseless, but that felt far too anticlimactic. After everything he had put her through, how could she leave without seeing his face when he realized she had won?
So the princess chose the more satisfying road.
“Long time, no see, dear cousin,” she said, voice low and laced with false sweetness. “I do not suppose you missed me?”
Silarion’s eyes snapped open at once.
He pushed himself upright in one smooth motion. Even fresh from sleep and still tangled in sheets, he immediately shifted into the composed posture of the Elven Prince. Tall, elegant, alert.
The princess scanned him up and down with a slow, mocking smile.
“So he swings that way, huh?” she said lightly.
Silarion did not honor her with any answer. He simply said, “Get out of here. Do not force me to use violence against you.”
The princess clicked her tongue. “Tsk. Tsk. It hasn’t even been long enough since you’ve been with the orcs, and look at you? My usually nice and demure cousin has already turned into such a brute?”
She shrugged and added, “But it is good that you told me. It will make everything much easier.”
Silarion’s brows furrowed. His stance shifted as he prepared to fight.
He never got the chance.
“Op. Op!” The princess said as she lifted a hand. “You might not want to do something like that, you know? Unless you are fine with your favorite elf ending up as minced meat.”
She raised a small crystal cluster. Inside it, trapped and petrified, was his aide. The faint outline of a terrified face could be seen through the crystal.
Silarion’s teeth gnashed. Fury trembled through him.
“What do you want?” he asked. He could have ended this quickly, but that crystal was sealed with a special incantation decided solely by the captor. Without it, even if he killed her, his aide would never survive.
The princess smiled sweetly, too sweetly. “Hey, Your Highness, you really should not shoot the messenger. I am only here because uncle is desperate to see you. If you cooperate, I will even release this guy. I will even make a proper oath for you, since you are such a worrywart. You cannot say I am not thoughtful, right?”
The standoff did not last long.
Silarion had no choice. His aide’s life was on the line. His own safety was irrelevant because he was aware that he had caused this. Also, he was rather certain they wouldn’t kill him right away. It was just that maybe he’d wish he were dead instead.
In the end, they made an oath, one that guaranteed his aide’s freedom and safety in exchange for his cooperation.
And what a happy day that was for the princess, who managed to regain her freedom while watching the tearful, helpless face of her cousin.
She had everything she wanted.
At least for now.
__
Princess Kira’s story rattled her friends.
No, rattled would’ve been an understatement because Luca actually looked rather murderous. And that was a sight she never thought she’d ever see.
But how could everyone not end up looking pissed when she told them about the things the orcs had pieced together through the deranged woman’s safehouse, as well as the accounts of the released aide who had actually been knocked out unconscious for several weeks, as per the oath.
And how regretful that was because maybe if he’d been able to ask for help, the following events probably wouldn’t have taken place.
The newly freed princess actually succumbed to the call of greed. And instead of simply walking away with her freedom, she decided to return to the stronghold while pretending to be her cousin.
This time, however, it had been much easier. She had spent days studying the Prince’s routines, switching all her products to match his, and using everything he used. She even wore his clothes, banking on the hope that the Orcish scent had faded after their time apart.
And the success was fulfilling.
She actually managed to get close enough to the orc, and those brutish subordinates even showed her respect.
Huh.
No wonder her cousin liked being that guy’s wife. Having all of those people waiting on her? She could definitely get used to that.
But then, surprisingly, just two days into enjoying all that luxury, she woke up, surprised to be face-to-face with the Orc Prince, who had had it with having to pretend that everything was alright.
The elf froze for a heartbeat when she was caught. Her eyes widened, surprise flickering across her face as the Orc Prince cornered her with a murderous glare.
But instead of panicking, she slowly broke into a smile.
Then she laughed.
It was loud, unhinged, and filled with the kind of satisfaction only someone who had already accepted their doom would dare to show.
“So this is the end, huh?” she said, still chuckling. “Well, at least I get to see that face of yours. I guess this view makes everything worth it.”
The Orc Prince’s expression darkened, shadows gathering around him like a growing storm. His fingers curled into fists as he stepped closer.
The elf lifted her chin defiantly.
“Oh, come on. Are you really that angry? You should be thanking me.” Her eyes gleamed with twisted delight. “After all, your precious mate bond is gone now. Now you can find someone else instead of that problematic cousin of mine, you know?”
The prince’s breath stilled.
She continued before he could speak.
“Yes. Gone. Completely. We figured it out, you know.” Her voice was manic, proud, almost triumphant. “We found a way to make sure you would never smell him the same again. Never sense him the way you did. Never track him. Never find him by instinct.”
She laughed again, sharp and cruel.
“Your bond is broken. Your senses are useless. But really, you shouldn’t despair, because that’s good for both of you!”
The words struck like poison.
Rage flooded the Orc Prince’s eyes. His aura surged, heavy enough to choke the air itself. Every instinct in him screamed for violence. For justice. For blood.
It was diabolical.
Cruel.
Unforgivable.
And the Orc Prince was very, very willing to end her for it.
Because who would not be?
