Chapter 741: Vigorous
But maybe Luca really deserved an even better gift.
Because unbeknownst to the hard-working and extremely biased husband, his little wife had been at his wits’ end after he passed out.
Luca practically took out all known tools and checked on Xavier, because at this point, how could he explain espers and guiding to the physicians at the medical bay?
Also, how could he even begin to explain everything that had happened just moments ago?
Thankfully, Xavier’s vitals were stable.
And that soon enough, the elders who had reportedly come to brag about the spinach frittata being wiped out were able to give him some semblance of reassurance.
But surprisingly, before Luca could provide an explanation, they already had an answer that came from examining the energy levels and the unfortunate state of the current patient.
Clearly, it could only be that. However, they were collectively surprised by the unexpected turn of events, because from what was known to many, their Young Lord was normally referred to as the wife.
But who were they but old and sometimes senile elders to judge? Perhaps it was like this because of their Lord’s spiritual rank.
Not that it would’ve really mattered! Because in truth, what would’ve mattered more was who could last longer!
Ahem.
“Oh! This?” Elder Shen basically rubbed his chin and said, “Well, of course, he’s exhausted after that dual cultivation.”
“?!”
“!!!”
“Dual cultivation?” tentatively asked the little cultivator whose hands were stuck hovering over his husband.
They all looked at each other, well, mainly Luca stared at them with such wide eyes that the four elders were also forced not to blink.
It was then that the accidental triplets and the only sane elder nodded with such sage knowledge.
“Yes, dual cultivation.”
It sounded like simple words. But then Luca, whose great memory was now proving to be a problem, remembered that sometime ago he’d asked a similar question and was told about being one together.
One together.
One together…
ONE. TOGETHER.
He’d been told to stay deeply connected!
And that was when the world imploded.
“P-P-Pffft!”
The poor little guide combusted on the spot, every molecule of his being turning bright red.
If anyone had seen his face, they might’ve assumed he’d just been told a dirty joke by the universe.
He was trembling, flailing, sputtering—all while trying to hide his face behind his hands. The memory of exactly how they’d been “one together” was vividly replaying in the depths of his mind. Every motion. Every sound. Every accidental action that now, apparently, had a name.
He had done that!
That!
Oh, but wait!
“But, Elder Shen, how could it be d-dual cultivation when I was actually guiding him because he was about to rampage…?” Luca asked. He was flustered all over but couldn’t just ignore the question that formed in his mind.
Surprisingly, however, the elders just looked at each other first before smiling and talking in what once again sounded gibberish.
However, this time around, the confused listener was able to hear and understand a few words, such as:
“Ah,” said Elder Shen. “So they call it guiding?”
“Interesting,” murmured Elder Feng, eyes twinkling like he’d just been handed free entertainment for the year.
“Cruel,” muttered Elder Pao Xi darkly, though it was unclear whether he meant it for the situation or the memory of his own youth.
Elder Wei, the only one who looked remotely sane, stepped forward and patted Luca on the head. The gesture was gentle but carried the weight of someone who had long accepted chaos as part of daily life.
“Probably in time it’ll make sense, but for now it’s good you’ve succeeded in Dual Cultivation.”
__
Luca wanted to ask more, but while the elders would’ve answered him as truthfully as always, there was still a long journey before he could begin to process even half of what they’d said.
And yet, he didn’t get the chance to think for long.
Because just as his mind was about to chase the phrase dual cultivation into deeper confusion, the elders somehow shifted topics.
To food.
Specifically, food that could help with male virility.
The moment he heard the word virility, Luca’s ears twitched.
He slowly turned his head toward them like a suspicious rabbit. “Virility?”
The elders froze mid-discussion, their collective wisdom suddenly finding itself face-to-face with the very subject of their concern.
Their Young Lord blinked up at them, eyes wide, innocent, and glowing faintly under the room’s lights. His soft hair was slightly mussed, his lips still red from anxiety, and his hands were neatly folded as he waited for an answer.
The four elders stared.
Oh no.
The realization dawned on them almost at the same time.
No wonder the prince was unconscious.
He was still in bed, pale, drained of spiritual energy and definitely stamina, while this sweet-faced, deceptively fragile-looking dungeon lord was up and moving—just flushed but glowing like he’d just finished his morning meditation.
There was a momentary standoff.
What the dungeon owner, however, didn’t understand was why the elders looked at him worriedly while looking at Xavier pitifully.
But how could he have imagined what they were thinking?
Elder Shen, for one, was awfully concerned, and sure enough, before he could even say something, someone had gone to voice it out.
“Ah, it seems the youth of today are energetic?” Elder Wei shook his head while he tapped on the floor.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk,” Elder Feng clicked his tongue, shaking his head as though witnessing a terrible tragedy.
However, to Shen, the others’ reactions were understandable; after all, just look at the imbalance that happened to these two!
Energy-wise, they seemed perfectly compatible. Yin and Yang in harmonious chaos. Truly an ideal pair for dual cultivation.
But stamina-wise?
Who would’ve thought their Young Lord—who did not spar daily, who sometimes forgot to eat lunch, who had the body of someone allergic to sunlight—would have this much vigor stored up in him?
Ah, it seems that it was true how the quiet ones tend to be the ones to watch out for!
Then again, if the prince had maybe eaten more nuts, fruits, and shellfish, then maybe he would’ve survived the tenacity and virility of their dungeon lord!
Therefore, clearly, it would only be right to suggest a more appropriate diet for the prince in need.
And Elder Shen’s conviction just skyrocketed when Elder Pao Xi’s question about when Xavier had passed out managed to receive such an answer from Luca.
“No! No! He passed out before we could even make it farther!”
The elders froze.
Before they could even make it farther?!
Four pairs of ancient eyes widened, and Elder Pao Xi’s jaw practically hit the floor.
Oh heavens.
He passed out before they finished?
Just what kind of battle had this delicate-looking child unleashed upon the Imperial Crown Prince?
Elder Wei inhaled sharply, nearly choking on his own spit, while Elder Shen clutched his chest as if the scandal alone was too much for his old heart to bear.
Luca, of course, mistook their reactions for alarm regarding Xavier’s health.
“Yes!” he continued, completely serious, “he didn’t even make it all the way through! If only I had been more careful, he wouldn’t have had to overexert himself like that!”
The elders’ expressions twisted into something between disbelief and awe.
But maybe if they’d been more observant, they would’ve noticed how the little heir had guilt all over his face.
But why guilt?
Because in reality, Xavier wouldn’t have had to experience any of this if only he had been there as planned. If he had been able to do his part in fighting that monster, then Xavier wouldn’t have been this exhausted.
It’s just that because it has happened already, Luca was also aware that if not for that level of exhaustion, then his wolfish husband would’ve been able to go on as usual.
And who knows how long that would’ve been this time?
Wouldn’t Luca be the one bedridden then?
However, because he also passed out in that manner, Luca was concerned that his husband might have a few issues as a person who had always maintained good posture, even in his sleep.
“And his back, would it be alright if I let him use a healing pill for his back?” asked the worried guide, who had been thinking about how Xavier was probably uncomfortable during that entire time. With Luca’s body even adding on as dead weight earlier, surely that wouldn’t have been good for his husband, right?
Meanwhile, the surprised and definitely guilty-looking chipmunk could only listen as the elders let out a collective noise.
Gasp!
The elders almost took a step back in unison, but managed to stay right where they were. It was just that they couldn’t help it when they had validated their suspicions earlier.
And it became definite when Luca, who seemed like he had thought really hard about it, asked about the food they had just mentioned earlier.
“!!!”
Obviously, this further scandalized the elders, but they sure were decisive when they told Luca about the food that should be recommended to Xavier.
But maybe the one who should be scandalized the most, as words about oysters and a slew of nuts were being listed, was the prince who had actually managed to recover his consciousness moments ago but was simply listening to the scandalous conversation by his bedside.
Just what exactly had happened here?
