Chapter 729: Zone Four Cleanup Committee

Poof!

And that was the last anyone saw of one golden-eyed, flustered wife.

Well, at least that was what Luca hoped for after realizing what he had just said and, worse, that he had gotten a response on top of it all.

He really said it.

He actually said it!!!

But contrary to what others might think, Luca Kyros—the current pile of floppy emotional goo—wasn’t embarrassed because people heard him. No, that part was fine. He was mortified because he had read about confessions before, and none of them were supposed to happen like that!

In the stories, confessions happened in person, preferably under the moonlight or while walking along a picturesque shoreline.

They did not happen inside the stomach of a sea monster.

So what had he done?!

Not only had he confessed over comms, he couldn’t even see Xavier’s face!

He didn’t get to give him a gift!

He didn’t even have time to prepare something romantic!

Thump!

Thump!

Thump!

“Aaaaahhh!”

Luca flopped face-first onto one of the beds, clutching his chest as he writhed in embarrassment. His golden eyes glimmered with regret and emotional devastation.

But surprisingly, he wasn’t the only one dramatically suffering from the aftermath. Although unlike the heir whose heart was bouncing all over the place, his people were definitely keeling over for a different reason.

Everyone else—save for the bravest of the brave and the few who were celebrating with hysterical joy—had practically collapsed into whatever surface was nearest to them.

After all, it was one thing to know that the young cadets were married.

It was another thing entirely to hear their open declarations of love broadcast across the channel!

Butler Gary, bless his soul, could only thank every deity he knew that the Duke was blissfully unconscious and not present for that particular moment.

Unfortunately, his relief was short-lived.

Because his suspicious sister gingerly patted him on the shoulder and said with a sympathetic nod, “Brother, maybe it’s not too late for you to find someone…”

“YA!” snarled the butler, who could not believe that after so many years, she was still a problem!

She just smiled, unbothered, while the others tried not to laugh.

Then again, family was family.

At least their family wasn’t being rounded up outside by crazed fanatics for being too perfect to pass up!

__

Which was, in fact, a concept that the imperial soldiers couldn’t make sense of.

But how could anyone ignore the intense enthusiasm of the soldiers from House Kyros, who were tirelessly arranging monster carcasses into neat, towering piles like it was the most natural thing in the world?

Well, for one, the imperial troops were trying very hard to understand the situation, but their confusion only deepened when they witnessed the strangest ritual known to military history.

Marshal Julian—who had refused all external communications for a solid hour as he silently mourned his image—stood atop the battlefield with grim dignity, holding that sparkly cannon.

Every half hour, he would fire it again.

A soft, glittery fwiishh would sweep through the air. The cannon sparkled, shimmered, and absolutely refused to sound intimidating.

Each time he did, the soldiers of House Kyros would erupt into motion, sprinting across the field to gather fallen monster parts with unmatched efficiency.

It was… impressive. Terrifyingly so.

But maybe what truly scandalized the watching imperial soldiers wasn’t the glitter cannon, or even the suspiciously cheerful cleanup crew—

It was the giant pit nearby.

A pit filled with what could only be described as… the not-so-bubbling, corrupted goo.

“What—what are they doing with that?” whispered one Imperial lieutenant, his voice trembling as he leaned over the railing.

Nia, on the other hand, looked like she was seconds away from self-combustion. She had her sleeve between her teeth, gnawing in frustration as she muttered, “I can’t take it anymore! What is it? I really want to know what they’re doing?!”

Thankfully, the mystery didn’t last long, and the extremely curious soldiers understood what the fuss was all about.

Spinach Frittata.

Well, not that they were making Spinach Frittata, but that they’d be getting them in exchange for all that hard work.

But to begin with, what could that thing be?

To the initiated, particularly to one little princess—who had been the taste tester while everyone else had been busy fighting—it wasn’t just food. It was a golden, fluffy miracle.

Tender spinach leaves were folded into a creamy blend of goodies that was baked until the edges turned crisp and bronzed.

The little princess, who had been in turmoil after seeing the battlefield, had been comforted by such a dish earlier and could vouch that it was worthy and even too much for compensation!

However, that was for those in the know.

For the rest of the soldiers, they weren’t about to pretend that they actually understood what a Spinach Frittata was.

But judging from the way everyone from House Kyros suddenly looked ready to lay down their lives for it… Then it must be something good. Right?

But what about it?

Well, according to Marshal Julian, it was, of course, their responsibility to ensure the safety of Zone Four. However, there was no definitive rule stating that they had to be particular about the handling of the by-products of the battle.

Now that wouldn’t have been the case if they only fought mutated creatures, but for contagious creatures, no one in their right mind should even be coming closer to those bodies.

And yet what had they been watching?

Moreover, what about everything that had happened since the start of this attack?

Clearly, the soldiers from House Kyros were out there gathering them!

Then again, technically speaking, since most of the monster hunting, chopping, killing, and tentacle wrestling had been handled by them, ownership of the carcasses and by-products rightfully fell to House Kyros.

Still, even Luca knew this was no small cleanup.

While he could definitely store them easily, he would still have to track them all down first! Not to mention processing them for the parts he couldn’t possibly need.

Worse, leaving severed tentacles lying around was just asking for another round of trouble later.

So why not employ a few more helping hands?

Maybe, just maybe, it would speed up the whole processing ordeal?
