Chapter 997: Chapter 997 Confrontation
How could she not feel disheartened?
So many of her colleagues had already become collateral damage, and sooner or later, it could very well be her or Hannah’s turn. After all, she was the one who had brought the servants from the Old Mansion into the Green Dragon Manor penthouse, and Hannah had openly offended Silvia by siding with Hera.
That alone was enough to make them targets. Perhaps that was why Silvia had gone so far as to attempt to kill Old Hue, Hannah’s own father.
No matter how hard she tried to rationalize it, Silvia only came across as narrow-minded and vicious.
That made her feel all the more sorry for Old Master Avery. He had sponsored that child, practically raising her like a granddaughter. Even though there was always a clear boundary, he had still spent years caring for her, so it would be a lie to say he wouldn’t be hurt by her actions.
In the end, Silvia didn’t even seem deserving of his kindness; she was greedy, always reaching for more than she could chew, driven by a voracious appetite, and utterly lacking in gratitude.
Because if Silvia had truly been grateful, she would have followed the example of the other aides in devoting herself to helping and protecting their Young Miss. Even if she didn’t come from one of the old aide families who had faithfully served the Averys for generations, she could have still shown her gratitude by offering her loyalty and service.
But no, rather than giving back, she wanted to take.
She sought to replace their Young Miss and claim everything for herself. Gratitude never crossed her heart; all she ever wanted was more, and if denied, she would feel cheated, perhaps even go so far as to slander their Young Miss Hera with vile accusations.
Amy could already picture it all, just from the schemes Silvia had been weaving lately in the Old Mansion.
“Sigh…” Amy exhaled heavily as she closed her phone and lifted her gaze to the ceiling. She did feel some pity for Silvia’s childhood, after all, Silvia had also lost both her parents, just as their Young Miss Hera had.
But unlike Hera, who practically grew up alone with only the barest funds to support herself, forced to survive like a wild child away from her grandfather, Silvia had it far better. And yet, never once did their Young Miss complain or show resentment toward her grandfather.
On the contrary, she matured far beyond her years, understanding his struggles and doing her best to improve herself and learn more.
But look at how Silvia turned out. She might have matured earlier than most her age, but unlike Hera, who used her maturity to understand and shoulder the difficulties around her, Silvia twisted hers into something shallow.
She learned to read people’s expressions and moods, not to empathize, but to fawn over them and win favor for her own comfort. That in itself wasn’t wrong; being able to catch social cues was a useful trait, but Silvia used it in the worst way: flattering the strong while trampling on the weak.
Just like now, when she treated the Old Mansion’s servants cruelly, yet played the part of the sweet, charming girl in front of Old Master Avery.
Fortunately, Amy was now working directly under Hera, so she wasn’t too disheartened. What worried her instead was whether Old Master Avery would grow sentimental, or worse, be blind enough to hesitate in letting go of such a vicious woman.
Amy feared that the longer Silvia stayed, the greater the trouble she would bring to their Young Miss, who already had her hands full dealing with the vultures circling their family’s wealth.
After lunch, Amy gathered the lunch boxes from Leo’s hospital room, not even allowing Rafael to help wash them. Everyone looked exhausted, so she decided to take them back to the penthouse to clean later, giving Hera, Rafael, and Leo more time to rest.
A bed had already been set up in the room for them, and Zhane hadn’t allowed the hospital staff to remove it, knowing they often stayed over to watch Leo. That way, Leo would never have to feel alone during his long stays.
After making sure Hera and the others needed nothing more, Amy finally left the hospital. But the moment she stepped outside, she ran into the very last person she wanted to see. Her chest tightened, and her fingers fidgeted around the lunch box she carried, not out of fear for herself, but because she dreaded this vile woman bringing more trouble to their Young Miss.
“Miss Silvia…” Amy greeted reluctantly. She had no choice; Silvia had already spotted her and was striding over with an angry glare. Her sharp eyes swept up and down Amy before landing on the lunch box in her hands.
“What are you doing here?!” Silvia snapped, her eyes gleaming with such sharp fury it was as if she wanted to tear Amy apart. She didn’t even wait for an explanation as Hera’s face had already flashed through her mind, fueling her rage further.
Before Amy could answer, Silvia’s hand whipped across her face. The strike came so suddenly that Amy froze in shock; she had never imagined Silvia would dare hit her so brazenly in front of so many people, without the slightest regard for her own image.
“M-Miss—” Amy tried to speak, but another blow silenced her. This time, the force was even harsher, the sting exploding across her other cheek. Blood welled at the corner of her lips, and the throbbing pain told her that one of her teeth might have loosened from the vicious strike.
“Bring her with us! I want to see what that bitch is doing in my fiancé’s room,” Silvia spat, her tone dripping with venom, as though she were about to expose some sordid affair.
Her words instantly stirred the crowd’s curiosity. Murmurs spread like wildfire, and people began edging closer, eager to witness the drama. Before Amy could even open her mouth to defend Hera, Silvia’s bodyguards seized her by both arms and dragged her forward.
Silvia, feeding on the attention, didn’t stop there. She even gestured to a few young onlookers who had begun recording and live-streaming the scene, permitting them to follow as if she were proudly unveiling a scandal.
And of course, once others realized this confrontation might turn into a public spectacle, more young people flocked after them, phones raised high, eager to capture every second.
Silvia had originally come to the hospital to visit Leo, determined to increase her presence in his life. She refused to believe she couldn’t capture his heart, convinced that with enough persistence, she could break down his walls and eventually warm his heart.
To make her entrance unquestionable, she brought along a large entourage of bodyguards, fully prepared to pressure the stationed guards on the seventh floor and force her way into Leo’s room if necessary.
But fate handed her something even better. The moment she spotted Amy standing there with a lunch box in her hands, Silvia’s assumptions ignited. If Amy were here, then Hera must be inside with Leo.
Rage surged through her, and without hesitation, she lashed out, striking Amy across the face.
And when Silvia noticed a few young people recording the scene on their phones, a cruel idea bloomed in her mind. Rather than stopping them, she deliberately signaled for them to follow.
If Hera was inside, Silvia would drag her out into the open, humiliate her before everyone, show them that she was nothing but a mistress, and brand her as nothing more than a rat unworthy of walking in daylight.
Enticed by the promise of drama, the young onlookers eagerly obeyed, following Silvia without resistance, especially since her bodyguards made no effort to stop them.
Hearing Silvia call someone her “fiancé” made Amy think of Edmond’s messages in their group chat.
‘So Silvia really believed herself to be Leo’s betrothed?’
The idea almost made Amy laugh out loud. Hera didn’t even know about any engagement to the Hendrix family, but the servants at the Old Mansion had heard the whispers long ago. They weren’t as old a company as Edmond, but they’d seen Leo visit the mansion and had heard him speak with Old Master Avery; that was enough to make them “in the know.”
Most of it had been gossip, which was why Amy hadn’t taken it seriously, until Silvia said it out loud. If Silvia believed she had the right to steal what belonged to their Young Miss, she was sorely mistaken.
Amy felt hot anger rise in her chest; if looks could kill, Silvia would already be dead ten times over.
No matter how hard Amy tried to tug her arms free, the bodyguards’ grip was unyielding, and she was dragged along like a helpless chick toward the elevator. The large elevator was already crowded, but the men formed a wall around Silvia, ensuring no one got too close.
They split into two groups: one escorting Silvia while hauling Amy along, and the other bringing the curious onlookers who were recording the scene. Before long, the entire entourage reached the seventh floor.
