Chapter 996: Chapter 996 Going Too Far
[Edmond: I’m sure. I’ve been the Old Mansion’s driver for decades, and I’ve taken Miss Silvia around countless times. There were even occasions when she visited the Hendrix estate.]
[Edmond: I overheard her on the phone once, telling her friends she planned to speak with the Hendrix Patriarch to announce her “engagement” with Young Master Leo. She was rambling about some supposed marriage arrangement between the families.]
[Amy: But Edmond, you’ve worked in the Old Mansion for decades. Do you really believe that nonsense?]
[Edmond: (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻]
[Edmond: Of course not! If anyone were to be engaged to the Hendrix family, it would be our Young Miss. The Averys and the Hendrixes have been close for generations; our Old Patriarch and their Old Patriarch were practically brothers. Why would he ever hand such a good marriage alliance to an outsider?]
[Chris: That… actually makes a lot of sense.]
[Chris: (⊙_☉)]
[Chris: Don’t you think it might actually be true that the Avery and Hendrix families really do have an engagement? But instead of it being for Miss Silvia, it was supposed to be for our Young Miss and the Hendrix heir. Maybe Miss Silvia somehow found out and is trying to steal the engagement for herself?]
[Chris: That way, even if she isn’t the real Avery heiress, she could still latch onto the Hendrix family and secure her place as a wealthy woman.]
[Edmond: That sounds highly likely. From what I’ve observed of Miss Silvia all these years, she’s vain and arrogant to the core. It wouldn’t surprise me if she went as far as to snatch away our Young Miss’s rightful marriage partner.]
[Amy: Wait—what?!!!]
[Edmond: Didn’t she even go to the hospital to visit Young Master Leo?]
[Amy: I think that really might be the case… If so, then the real confrontation between our Young Miss Hera and Miss Silvia didn’t happen at the penthouse, but at the hospital. And now, Miss Silvia is punishing the servants who helped Young Miss Hera, maybe because Miss Silvia believes they’re close to our Young Miss, and she wants to send her a warning.]
[Chris: That wouldn’t be impossible either. Miss Silvia is like a vicious snake…]
[Edmond: Chris, don’t talk like that. If Miss Silvia hears you speaking behind her back, she’ll make your life miserable.]
[Chris: I’m not scared. I still believe our masters are righteous; they won’t tolerate Miss Silvia tormenting their servants. The Averys have treated us well all these years. If Old Master Avery finds out, he’ll put Miss Silvia in her place.]
[Amy: That may be true, but tattling risks putting a bigger target on your back if Miss Silvia finds out you ratted her out.]
[Chris: Then I’ll go to Young Miss Hera and ask for refuge. I’m sure she’s like her grandfather, and she won’t let me be wronged. Maybe doing that will force Miss Silvia to back off sooner.]
[Edmond: You’re actually making a lot of sense right now. Honestly, I don’t want Miss Silvia to stay in the Avery estate either. Her viciousness could tarnish the Avery name, and worse, she might drag Young Miss Hera through the mud before she even takes her rightful place as heiress.]
[Amy: I think you both make good points… but is that everything that’s happened so far? If I present this carefully to Young Miss Hera, I can make it sound like I’m just reporting normally, not tattling, so no one can trace it back to you.]
[Chris: Oh my, Amy! You’re such an angel!]
[Amy: (¬_¬)]
[Edmond: Actually, that’s not all. Miss Silvia won’t stop until she’s made everyone’s lives miserable. One of the maids was even shoved into the greenhouse pool. Since it’s usually quiet there, with hardly anyone passing by, the poor girl, who couldn’t even swim, nearly drowned to death.]
[Edmond: But Miss Silvia just looked at the maid like she was disappointed the girl didn’t die. Then she rolled her eyes and walked away as if nothing had happened. Since then, the maid has been too traumatized to even go near the pool.]
[Amy: Wait, hold on, why does it sound like so much has already happened? It’s only been a few days since Miss Silvia came back, and she’s already caused this much harm?]
[Chris: Exactly! It feels like she’s made it her mission to spend every waking moment tormenting us.]
[Edmond: Well, not all of us. She mostly targets those who were seen helping in the penthouse. The rest of us who stayed behind in the Old Mansion were spared, at least a little. We still got scolded sometimes, but nothing compared to what the others went through.]
[Edmond: Oh, and before I forget, Hannah’s father, Old Hue, almost got burned alive in the kitchen. I’m certain it was Miss Silvia’s doing. She left the gas open without lighting it. When Old Hue went in to cook, he immediately noticed the strong smell of gas.]
[Edmond: He was terrified; he had been just about to turn on the stove. Thankfully, he caught the leak in time, shut off the valve, opened the windows to air the place out, and rushed out to call for help. The worst part? The surveillance cameras just happened to malfunction again at that exact moment.]
[Edmond: I think Miss Silvia must have found out that Old Hue is Hannah’s father, and she targeted him because of that.]
[Edmond: And I’m convinced it was her, because no one else uses the kitchen except Old Hue and the other kitchen staff, but on that day, Miss Silvia had conveniently sent all the kitchen staff away.]
[Amy: Wait—what?!!!]
[Amy: That’s way too much!]
[Amy: That’s not just cruelty anymore, that’s attempted murder!]
[Chris: Exactly! She’s completely unhinged. That’s why we need to bring this up with the Old Master and Young Miss right away, before it escalates into something worse and someone actually loses their life.]
[Amy: Alright. Leave this to me, I’ll make sure Young Miss Hera hears about this tonight.]
[Edmond: Good. But you and Hannah need to stay extra vigilant. From what I’ve seen, Miss Silvia isn’t just petty, she’s vindictive, with a heart as dark as her mind. She never lets go of a grudge. And since you and Hannah are already on her bad side, I believe that’s why she even went as far as trying to kill Old Hue.]
[Chris: (⊙﹏⊙)]
[Edmond: Don’t worry. Old Hue has already taken his leave and doesn’t plan to return, while Miss Silvia is still staying in the Old Mansion. Like me, he’s been working here for decades, so he has the privilege to come and go as he pleases.]
[Edmond: He’ll only return once the Old Master comes back. This way, he won’t have to constantly fear for his life. As long as Miss Silvia doesn’t go as far as sending someone after him out of spite, then he should be safe.]
…
After speaking with her colleagues from the Old Mansion, Amy felt her heart sink. From what she had seen of Hannah earlier, before she left the girl in the penthouse, she was still smiling and calm; it was clear that Old Hue hadn’t breathed a word of what had happened to him.
He must have kept it from her to spare her the worry and to prevent her from confronting Miss Silvia. No doubt, he had already heard about the penthouse incident from the other servants, yet he chose to bottle everything up.
Still, Amy felt a measure of relief knowing that Old Hue had decided not to return to work until Miss Silvia left. But that only raised another troubling question: when would Miss Silvia leave?
Would she even leave on her own?
Amy doubted it.
Which meant she needed to move forward with her plan; their Young Miss Hera had to be told about what was happening in the Old Mansion. After all, it was still her home, and the people there were her people. She deserved to know, and only her decision could bring justice to the other servants.
Amy let out a heavy sigh as she glanced down at her phone. Both Chris and Edmond had sent her private messages filled with evidence and detailed accounts of everything that had happened.
They wanted to make it easier for her to report to their Young Miss and to make sure she believed them. None of them wanted it to look like they were ganging up on Silvia simply because she wasn’t the real granddaughter.
Everyone knew how skillfully Silvia could act, adorable and charming whenever Old Master Avery was watching. If word of this reached him through their Young Miss, Silvia might twist everything around and accuse them of conspiring with Hera to bring her down. And truthfully, beyond the testimonies and accounts, they had very little concrete proof to stand on.
For a while, Amy’s phone wouldn’t stop buzzing as more and more messages poured in. With each new detail, her heart grew heavier.
