Chapter 995: Chapter 995 Silvia’s Targetting
Maybe, just maybe, her sincerity had reached him, and he was slowly letting his guard down. The thought filled her with quiet joy. With the tension eased, the three of them slipped into a livelier conversation about business while sharing the fruit salad Rafael had prepared.
Leo gradually eased up, his tone softening as he began speaking with Hera and Rafael more warmly than before. For the first time, he seemed a little more comfortable around them.
Rafael noticed the change but chose not to point it out; he didn’t want Leo to feel self-conscious and retreat back into his usual aloofness. Since his earlier schemes hadn’t worked out as planned anyway, Rafael simply let things be and decided to enjoy the moment with Hera.
Hera, seeing the tension finally melt away, shifted her focus back to their conversation. To her surprise, even with his memory loss, Leo’s sharp business acumen remained intact. The three of them ended up having a lively discussion about business, the atmosphere lighter than before.
Before long, Amy arrived with their lunch, and not long after, Zhane appeared as well, his expression weary.
“How are things going on your side?” Hera asked, worry lacing her voice.
Zhane pressed his lips into a thin line, and even without words, Hera and Rafael could tell something was wrong. It seemed pieces were starting to come together; perhaps Zhane had uncovered some of what his ex–uncle-in-law had done to support Sophia at the hospital.
Or maybe the surveillance footage had failed to capture all of Sophia’s movements, leaving gaps that troubled him.
With a heavy breath, Zhane walked toward Hera and wrapped her in an embrace. He moved stiffly, almost like a machine returning to its dock after exhausting every ounce of its power, desperate to recharge before shutting down completely.
“Are you okay?” Hera asked softly.
“Mm… don’t worry about me, I’m just recharging,” Zhane murmured, breathing in her scent. The familiar fragrance cleared the fog clouding his mind, loosening the tension in his shoulders. Hera couldn’t help but giggle, and with her uninjured arm, she hugged him back, rubbing his back in gentle circles.
“Alright, alright. Let’s recharge for a bit, then we’ll eat lunch together,” she said in a motherly tone.
“Mm.” Zhane’s reply was simple, muffled as he buried his nose into the curve of her neck. He nuzzled her a few times, the tip of his nose brushing against her skin and making her want to laugh again. But she stayed still, pinned in place by his large frame, letting him have his moment.
After a while, Zhane finally let go and settled down beside Hera so he could help feed her. That left Rafael to tend to Leo instead. The two men exchanged a brief look before Rafael rolled his eyes in defeat and took on the task.
Meanwhile, Amy busied herself setting up the table. Once everything was arranged neatly, she excused herself, stepping out of the hospital room to join the bodyguards stationed at the door.
Before leaving, she handed them neatly packed rice balls. At first, the bodyguards hesitated, reluctant to eat while on duty, but Amy’s gentle insistence eventually won them over.
“Eat. How are you going to protect our Young Miss if you don’t eat properly? Will you even have the strength?” Amy scolded gently, hands planted on her hips as she urged them.
The two bodyguards exchanged a hesitant glance before finally nodding in reluctant agreement. Fortunately, Hannah had prepared rice balls, making it easy for them to eat while standing guard.
It wouldn’t interfere with their duty and would even save them the trouble of leaving for the break room to have their lunch.
“Thank you.” The bodyguards smiled at Amy as if seeing their own nagging mothers in her. After all, mothers were the same everywhere, always reminding their children not to skip meals for the sake of their health. Amy’s fussing carried that same warmth, and it made them feel cared for.
Amy gave a satisfied nod, then glanced around. Spotting a bench in the hallway, she chose to sit there and relax. There was a sofa inside the hospital room where she could lounge more comfortably, but she didn’t want to intrude on her Young Miss’s private time with her partners.
She wanted Hera to have the space to nurture and deepen her bond with those men. For Amy, it was better for an elder like her to step aside and let the young ones enjoy each other’s company without feeling restrained by her presence.
While she was lounging, Amy pulled out her phone and noticed the Old Mansion’s group chat buzzing with activity. Curious, she opened it, only to be met with a flood of complaints. As she scrolled, her brows furrowed in irritation. The staff were all riled up, venting their anger.
[Amy: What’s going on? Why are you all fussing?]
[Chris: Amy, you wouldn’t believe it! That Miss Silvia is insufferable. Ever since we came over to Young Miss Hera’s penthouse to help, she’s been making our lives miserable back at the Old Mansion. She’s doing everything she can to target us.]
[Amy: What do you mean by targeting you?]
[Chris: Listen to this. One of the maids who came to help at the penthouse is now neck-deep in debt because Miss Silvia framed her for breaking a vase in the art room. That vase was worth hundreds of millions, because it carried historical value.]
[Chris: Miss Silvia had specifically assigned her to clean that room, and she was doing just fine. But then, somehow, the vase ended up placed too close to the edge. Without her even touching it, it toppled over and shattered.]
[Chris: The poor maid’s knees gave out in fear, but she couldn’t defend herself; the surveillance cameras in the art room just happened to malfunction at that exact moment. Everything about it reeks of a setup, too many ‘coincidences.’ Now that poor girl has collapsed from the shock, crying nonstop.]
[Chris: Miss Silvia even crossed her arms haughtily and sneered, “How are you going to repay this vase with your worthless life? What promise of yours would ever amount to anything? Even if you slaved away for your entire lifetime without pay, three lifetimes wouldn’t be enough.” Then she went as far as threatening to call the police, terrifying the poor maid so much that she fainted on the spot.]
[Chris: And did Miss Silvia care? Not at all. She just rolled her eyes and coldly ordered us to throw the maid out of the Old Mansion and blacklist her across the entire nation.]
[Chris: Tell me, isn’t this going way too far?!!!]
[Edmond: That’s not even the worst of it. She tormented the other maids too, forcing them to brew her tea over and over again. Each time she found fault, she hurled the tea at them, scalding their skin until it blistered red.]
[Edmond: And did she let them tend to their burns? Of course not. Then she sneered, “Your tea-making is useless. Since you wasted so many tea leaves, you’ll have to pay for all of them.”]
[Edmond: But how could they? She made one maid brew more than a dozen batches, and those tea leaves cost thousands of dollars. Her salary isn’t even enough to cover a fraction of that.]
[Edmond: And the cruelest part? That maid’s mother is in the hospital right now. Miss Silvia demanded payment on the spot, threatening to call the police if she couldn’t produce the money immediately. It’s practically a death sentence for her mother, since every cent of her savings has already gone to the hospital bills.]
[Amy: Was it the same maid who got framed with the vase?]
[Edmond: No. The one framed with the vase was Sissy. The one burned and forced to pay for the tea leaves was Cassandra.]
[Amy: Weren’t they both the ones I brought over to Young Miss Hera’s penthouse to help out?]
[Chris: Exactly. That’s why we’re convinced Sissy was framed. It’s obvious Miss Silvia is targeting everyone who went to the penthouse. She’s venting her humiliation, first losing the penthouse to Young Miss, then being forced to hand over her two hypercars, not to mention coughing up millions just for one broken cup.]
[Amy: But that was her own fault. No one told her to smash that cup. And it’s not her place to punish us. Everyone in the Old Mansion knows she isn’t the true heiress… or has she already forgotten her position?]
[Chris: Haist… and that’s not even the end of it. Almost all the maids who helped at the penthouse are being targeted one way or another. Maybe Miss Silvia just wants to drive everyone away so she won’t be reminded that she’s nothing but a stand-in?]
[Edmond: I think that’s possible too. She’s grown so used to the luxury that she’s started convincing herself she could replace our Young Miss. After all, she’s never even met her. And didn’t you know? She’s even going after Young Master Leo.]
[Amy: Wait—are you sure about that, Edmond?]
