Chapter 985: Chapter 985 Where True Network Was Built

[Sasha: Sister, got what you asked for. I also put a virus on her phone. If she makes a move, I’ll be notified.]

[Sasha: (voice recording attached)]

[Hera: Good job! I’ll ask Cindy to order a feast for you from the Golden Dragon Pavilion.]

[Sasha: Yay! Sister Hera is the best!!!]

[Sasha: ♡〜٩(^▿^)۶〜♡]

…

Hera silently reviewed every piece of evidence, and nothing she saw sat well with her. She wasn’t sure if she should use it now to expose Sophia, but Cherry was on the verge of dying, and Hera worried that acting too soon might push Sophia to desperation, possibly driving her to actually kill Cherry sooner.

For now, Hera decided to hold onto the evidence, ensuring they could find an antidote before Cherry’s condition worsened.

As for the bone marrow donation, Hera had numerous charity foundations supporting various health cases, and with Gerald’s intel department, finding a suitable donor anywhere in the world wouldn’t be difficult.

If Sophia intended to use Cherry to gain a life-saving favor from the Sullivans, why not Hera turn it around and be the life saver instead? By staying a step ahead, she could prevent Sophia from using Cherry to harm others and, most importantly, to scheme against Leo while dreaming of climbing into his bed.

After all, Hera was petty, and she wouldn’t easily let Sophia get away with coveting her man. Hera pouted slightly with the thought, since Leo was still struggling with amnesia, and Hera is worried that he would be especially easy to fool because of it, like one of those foolish amnesiac male leads from novels.

She didn’t want that to happen, so she preferred to nip the problem in the bud, making sure Leo wouldn’t fall victim to Sophia’s schemes.

If only Leo knew what Hera was thinking, he’d probably retort, ‘Woman, I lost my memory, not my ability to think. Besides, I’m the biggest villain, villains are smart. We’d never fall for such flimsy tricks like those foolish male leads who always end up trying to redeem themselves after hurting their female leads. Villains don’t do that. We’d rather hurt countless people than ever harm our woman.’

While Hera remained silent to herself, the Sullivan brothers were breaking out in cold sweat, thinking of their sister and how fragile she had become after battling leukemia. She was their only sister, the only daughter in the family, the princess whom they had been doting on since birth.

Because of this, Cherry had rarely experienced real pain, and they all knew how much she hated it. Yet here she was, still fighting to survive. And to think that someone would poison their beloved younger sister…

Truth be told, although Cherry had been pampered since childhood, she was nothing like the typical spoiled heiress. She wasn’t arrogant or entitled; instead, she was a bright, sunny girl, which was precisely why she was so deeply loved and cherished.

Even in school, she was popular, the kind of social butterfly everyone gravitated toward.

At present, Cherry held a strong position among the country’s socialites, backed by the unwavering support of her family. It was this very status that drew Sophia’s attention.

Cherry was known as the ‘Lily of the Valley’ in high society, a title that made her the circle’s reigning queen. Aligning herself with Cherry could propel Sophia’s standing to new heights.

And if Cherry were to die, no one could truly fault Sophia; she could freely use Cherry’s name to garner sympathy, attract attention, and ultimately take Cherry’s place by wielding pity as her weapon.

The more Hera read into the situation, the weaker her breathing became. Unlike Cherry, she had never immersed herself in high society, yet even she understood the weight Cherry carried in those circles. Cherry possessed the power of influence; her words or actions alone could elevate someone to prominence or cast them into ruin.

Though her family wasn’t the most powerful in the nation, Cherry stood unchallenged because she enjoyed their unwavering support and their reputation for harmony and respectability. In truth, her standing rivaled that of the top heiresses, Hera included.

And now, Hera realized that if she wanted to step into the upper crust’s tightly knit circle, she needed Cherry.

The world of high society was far from welcoming to outsiders, and that much Hera had already learned from the Parisian socialites. The upper class was a world where nearly everyone knew one another from childhood, their cliques and alliances long established.

Breaking into those circles was nearly impossible unless someone from within extended a hand and brought you in. Even then, acceptance was never guaranteed; outsiders were scrutinized, and few were ever truly embraced.

So even with her status, Hera knew she would have little influence without forming her own circle. After all, even Rafael, Zhane, Xavier, Dave, and Luke had their own tight-knit clique, and just as it had been difficult for Leo to be accepted when he suddenly tried to step into their group, Hera understood she would face the same resistance once she entered the upper-class spotlight.

If that happened, someone like Silvia might even hold more sway than her, making it easy to belittle Hera at banquets reserved for networking among the elite. That would be a disastrous start. Hera couldn’t always rely on Leo and the others to shield her, so having Cherry on her side might very well be the best solution.

After all, while Athena was also an heiress and held some influence in the socialite circle, her standing could never compare to Cherry’s. The Sullivan family’s power far outstripped Athena’s, and even Liz’s influence was less significant.

As for Minerva, though they had reconciled, many still remembered their rivalry, and it was likely people would assume Minerva still disliked her. Some might even try to use Hera as a stepping stone to gain Minerva’s favor, oblivious to the truth.

And in a social circle that was nothing less than a den of wolves, Hera knew she couldn’t afford to leap in headfirst without strong backing.

She had never considered this before. Because she was so focused on the business side and proving herself as the undisputed heiress of the Avery family, she had overlooked one crucial truth: socializing was also part of the power struggle.

The ability to navigate society wasn’t just charm; it was power in itself, the foundation where true networks were built.

Hera resolved to help Cherry, partly to foil Sophia’s schemes, partly to use Cherry’s influence as a bridge into the upper social circle, but mostly because she truly pitied the girl. After reviewing Cherry’s file, Hera saw that she was genuinely kindhearted, and it would be a terrible loss to let someone like her die at the hands of a vile woman.

As for leveraging Cherry’s network, that was just a bonus. Hera wasn’t planning to ask much, only that if they crossed paths at banquets or elite gatherings, Cherry might exchange a few words with her.

That alone would be enough to establish Hera’s presence, and with her own talent and ability, Hera was confident she could make a lasting impression from there.

“Then, can you tell us how long our sister has been poisoned? That way, we can narrow down the suspects even more,” the older Sullivan brother asked, pulling Hera out of her thoughts.

“Hmm…” Zhane considered carefully before replying. “Based on the accumulation of toxins in her system and the dosage used, I’d say no longer than two weeks to a month.” He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees and clasping his hands together, his eyes fixed on the older Sullivan brother to emphasize the gravity of his words.

The older Sullivan brother flinched, his mind racing as he tried to recall what had been happening during that time. Cherry had already been hospitalized for three months while they scoured the nation for a bone marrow donor.

Then, his brows twitched as a thought suddenly clicked into place. As the eldest sibling and the one now leading the family business, he was no stranger to schemes or the darker side of human nature.

He knew better than to be blinded by false kindness, and suspicion began to take root in his heart. His younger brothers, however, were different. They couldn’t think of anyone who would deliberately harm their beloved sister.

“How long will your investigation take? And what about the antidote?” the older Sullivan brother pressed.

“The investigation will take at least three days if we examine every person thoroughly. But if we narrow it down to those who have been in and out of your sister’s room, then only a few hours,” Zhane explained. His voice grew heavier as he continued, “As for the antidote, that’s far trickier. The poison is colorless, odorless, and difficult to trace. Because of that, it’s nearly impossible to identify what exact poison was used, which means creating an antidote will take time.”
