Chapter 959: Chapter 959 Déjà Vu
“But he’s been wronging Lucas, and we can’t allow that. It’s our responsibility to keep our own son in line. And Lucas, though not our blood, has lived with us all these years, so we must treat both children fairly.”
She spoke with righteous conviction, as though every word was just and fair. Yet she failed to realize that her first instinct, to side with Lucas without hesitation, without even speaking up for her own son, was already a grave mistake. And the longer this pattern continued, the less she noticed these small but devastating betrayals to her own son.
“Alright, alright. But don’t come crying to me later if you push your own son away. I’ve warned you enough times,” Logan’s father said.
His wife only snorted. “Push him away? You talk as if you’re any better. You say this and that, but you’re no different because you just watch and let it happen! Tell me, what difference does it make? You never help discipline our child. You just sit there, hiding behind that stupid newspaper, while I’m left to be the bad guy every time. What kind of father is that?”
Her voice was sharp with indignation, her pride stung by his casual remark. To her, it felt as though he was sitting on a high horse, acting like the voice of reason, when in truth, he did nothing.
He merely watched, tossed in side comments, and left her to carry the burden of nagging and scolding. And now he dared call her unreasonable?
No mother ever wished for her children to be led astray or to grow up ruined. Whatever methods they chose, good or bad, the intent was often the same: to secure a better future for their children.
Unfortunately, Logan’s parents fell into the category of those who used harsh methods, forcing their children’s hands to obey.
They sought to control every aspect of their children’s lives and futures, demanding unquestioning obedience. To them, any sign of defiance, any question, any hint of resistance, was proof that their children were becoming “bad,” picking up undesirable habits, and daring to talk back.
Naturally, they favored sweet-tongued children who knew how to act cute and keep their parents pleased—like Lucas. The more Logan resisted their expectations, the more displeased they grew with him, and by contrast, the more perfect and pleasing Lucas appeared in their eyes.
Hearing his mother’s promise to help, Lucas grew even more smug, convinced he had already won. He happily settled at his desk to begin composing songs. Meanwhile, Logan, unaware of any of this, focused solely on his own work.
With Hera by his side, he felt more inspired than ever and even began writing a song for her, his only light in the darkness, hoping to surprise her with it when he debuted. But before that, he knew he had to win this battle against Lucas.
This wasn’t just about music anymore; it was a battle of attrition and mental fortitude. The first to crumble under public pressure would lose. Logan’s company, having long been warned by Hera, was in no rush.
They had plenty of ammunition prepared and were content to let Lucas lower his guard, letting him believe the victory was already in his hands, before striking back.
While things unfolded on one side, Gerald was busy on his own, dealing with the assassins who had attacked Hera in the hospital in Paris. After receiving Rafael’s message, he immediately jumped into gathering more intelligence.
So far, he had already uncovered details about Luca’s childhood, and to his surprise, what he found was deeply disturbing. Without hesitation, Gerald sent the information to Rafael and continued digging further.
Rafael received the report while still in Leo’s private hospital room. As he read through the material, his brows furrowed, his expression hardening with every line. Hera, who had been quietly observing him, paid close attention to his reaction.
But she no longer doubted her own instincts. Once bitten was enough to teach her; a second time would only mean foolishness. She trusted Rafael to make the right judgment once he uncovered the truth.
Just then, a strange sensation washed over her, like a predator’s gaze fixed on her. Her head whipped to the side, and she found herself staring directly into Leo’s deep ocean-blue eyes.
But Leo only pressed his lips together before looking away as if nothing had happened. Hera still wasn’t used to this silent version of him, this Leo whose thoughts she couldn’t read. Yet, the fact that he didn’t reject her presence was already a good sign.
Perhaps he was simply baffled by the idea of Hera having so many lovers, and still, in the end, choosing to be with him.
She understood how difficult this must be to process. With his memories lost, Leo had no choice but to fumble his way through, piecing together fragments and forming his own judgments.
Because of that, Hera didn’t want to rush into being overly affectionate. Instead, she chose to give him the time and space he needed to digest everything he had learned over the past two days.
Since it was already late, everyone decided to stay in the hospital. Like before, Zhane arranged for the staff to bring in a larger bed to Leo’s room so they could all rest there while keeping watch over him.
That way, Hera wouldn’t have to tire herself going back and forth between her residence and the hospital in her current state. She didn’t refuse; instead, she smiled warmly and nodded, grateful for their thoughtfulness.
Besides, ever since she became entangled with Logan, Hera wanted to see things through to the very end, to find out whether he could truly change his fate, just as she had.
After all, although she had already made so many changes in her own destiny, her journey wasn’t complete yet. She hadn’t fully claimed the role of the female lead in this story.
To do so, she still needed to become the best actress and achieve every milestone that once belonged to Alice. Only then could she say with certainty that she had conquered her fate and taken her place as the true female lead of her own story.
Not long after, a large king-sized bed was brought in and arranged in the hospital room, with Leo’s bed carefully pushed to the side.
Watching the scene unfold, Hera’s brows furrowed. ‘This feels like déjà vu,’ she thought as she observed the staff bustling about, Zhane giving directions, Rafael preoccupied on the side, and Luke quietly standing behind her wheelchair. Then Luke leaned down, his lips brushing close to her ear.
“Don’t you think this looks familiar?” he teased, his voice laced with amusement. Even without turning to look, Hera could already picture that angelic yet sinful smile curving across his face.
“Hmmm…” Hera replied vaguely, trying to recall. Her gaze lingered on Rafael, and suddenly the memory clicked. The last time something like this happened was when Rafael had been shot and hospitalized—they’d set up another bed in his room, too.
And what followed after that…
Hera quickly cut off the thought, her cheeks heating up. After all, that was when her first time happened. Just remembering it was enough to make her blush furiously.
It seemed Luke had been waiting for her to catch on, because he leaned closer and murmured with a mischievous lilt, “Baby, wanna do it again? Hmm?”
Hera almost choked. He didn’t even need to finish the thought; she already knew exactly what he meant. Luke was hinting at repeating that night, and of course, he would be the most thrilled by the idea; his character setting had always thrived on the thrill of intimacy in risky places, where the danger of being caught only made everything more intense.
Hera didn’t reply, but the deepening blush spreading from her cheeks to the tips of her ears was answer enough. Luke, thoroughly amused, watched her with a grin.
From the side, Leo’s lips pressed into a thin line. Watching Luke openly tease Hera and seeing her face flush so vividly, he didn’t need to guess what kind of things Luke was whispering—lewd, without a doubt.
A strange heaviness churned in his stomach, his chest tightening as though his heart were sinking.
‘Was this… jealousy?’
Damn right it was. He wanted to be the one close enough to Hera to make her blush like that, yet when it came down to it, he had no idea how. He couldn’t find the right words, the right moment; he was utterly lost.
He just couldn’t find a common ground. The memory loss only made it worse; his perspective, thoughts, and even his sense of self didn’t align with the reality in front of him. None of it made sense when he tried to understand their arrangement. He couldn’t fathom what his past self had been thinking to be so magnanimous.
Or maybe… a part of him did understand. Perhaps that was why he could sit there, quietly watching Luke and Hera flirt, feeling jealousy churn inside him but not outright anger.
