Chapter 1037: Chapter 1037 Asking Dave For Help
[KinkyIsMyType: @PasserbyGod Actually… I was colleagues with that police officer. We were partners. I was supposed to go with him that night, but my wife suddenly went into labor, and he pushed me to leave and stay with her.]
[KinkyIsMyType: Looking back, maybe he already sensed something was off, like someone wanted him dead, and sent me away because I had a newborn and a wife waiting for me.]
[KinkyIsMyType: He had a family too… and I still feel guilty about it. I tried to push for a reinvestigation, but no one wanted to touch the case. I never believed he died just because of an “escaped assailant.” It was too clean. Too convenient.]
[PasserbyGod: @KinkyIsMyType Aren’t you supposed to be prohibited from talking about this outside the police force?]
[KinkyIsMyType: @PasserbyGod I left after my partner died. I was afraid I’d be targeted next. I only wanted to stay alive for my wife and child. I’m working somewhere else now, so I can finally speak freely about it.]
[GGBoss: Holy crap! Is this for real?! This is shaping up to be a huge scandal! And for My Queen Hera to mention it… wait, don’t tell me, it has something to do with those two? Considering how they intimidate others and use their power without thinking about who gets hurt, I’m almost certain they’re behind all the mess you mentioned. It’s just too convenient that it connects to them, and with the hint my Queen just dropped… I saw their faces go pale.]
[Gachafroggy: Totally agree. +1]
[MundaneWorld: Same here. +995]
[Kalawae: But… what if we’re jumping to conclusions? Maybe they just seem like villains but are actually innocent?]
[AuntieNextDoor: @Kalawae Are you seriously suggesting that my little sister Hera would just make things up and accuse innocent people?]
[Kalawae: @AuntieNextDoor, no, I get what you’re saying, but those accusations are just… too extreme. There’s even talk of murder, and the girl is just a college student. Could a college student really be that black-hearted to let something like this happen? I just can’t wrap my head around it. Imagine just minding your own business and suddenly having a target on your back, scary, right? You feel me?]
[AuntieNextDoor: @Kalawae, you make a good point, it is terrifying to think about. But if it’s true, doesn’t that make it even more important to get these people behind bars? To protect everyone else’s safety?]
[Kalawae: @AuntieNextDoor, yeah… that makes sense.]
…
While the rest of the netizens went wild in the livestream’s comment section, Hera’s side was completely silent. The atmosphere felt as if a bomb had dropped. Everyone stared at Christy and President Lincoln, then back at Hera, their eyes silently demanding that she lay out the evidence, one piece at a time.
As the tension mounted and all waited for her next move, Hera calmly pulled out her phone and sent a message to Dave.
…
[Hera: Dave, are you busy? Do you have a moment?]
[Dave: Sweetheart, I always have time for you. What’s up, my queen?]
[Hera: Actually… I ran into a bit of a problem and could use your help.]
[Hera: ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა]
[Dave: Wait, are you hurt?! Are you okay?!]
[Dave: (˚☐˚”)/]
[Hera: I’m fine, don’t worry. But I need your help to get an investigation reopened for an accident that happened months ago. I’ll need your influence to get the chief of police involved.]
[Hera: But you don’t have to worry about your opposition using this against you. I’ve already handled that; I made sure the netizens are aware of this incident. So even if you use your influence to reopen the investigation, it will only show that you’re seeking justice for those who suffered. Your opponents won’t be able to twist it against you.]
[Hera: And with your current war on drugs campaign, you need every bit of good reputation you can get. Let the netizens see you as the young Minister who acts with heart, a compassionate politician who lets action speak for him. Isn’t that exactly the kind of image you want?]
[Hera: (๑>•̀๑)]
[Dave: Aw… I’m so touched, sweetheart! I’m really happy that you’re thinking about me and even worrying about my position in politics.]
[Dave: You handled everything so well. Thank you. But even if you hadn’t prepared all that groundwork, I’d still help you. Just tell me what you need, and no matter what it is, I’ll do it for you…]
[Dave: ૮⍝• ᴥ •⍝ა]
[Hera: I appreciate it, but we can’t let your career get sabotaged just because of me. Trust me.]
[Dave: And this, this is exactly why I love you so much, sweetheart!!!]
[Dave: ໒꒰ྀི´ ˘ ` ꒱ྀིა]
[Dave: Alright, leave everything to me. I’ll contact the chief of police. Just tell me which branch has the case file and what your next step is. I’ll handle the rest. Don’t tire yourself out, okay? Wait for me to come home later, I’ll keep you company.]
[Hera: Okay. Thank you. But don’t overwork yourself either. Rest when you need to.]
[Dave: No need for thanks between lovers.]
[Dave: ₍₍⚞(˶˃ ꒳ ˂˶)⚟⁾⁾]
…
After chatting for a while, Hera couldn’t help but let the corner of her lips curl into a small smile. No matter how serious the situation was, the moment she was talking to Dave, or had him involved, it never felt quite so heavy, maybe because he always made it feel like a joke or not so serious.
Maybe he was only like this when he was with her, but out of her sight, he could return to the cunning fox he normally was. But around her… he was like a playful, affectionate puppy.
Since she already had Dave’s guarantee, Hera sent him the file that Gerald had provided, including the branch where the original case was recorded. She also made sure to request that the Chief of Police reinvestigate the death of the police officer in charge of that suicide case.
For now, she didn’t speak in front of the camera after dropping that hint; she needed to wait for Dave to have the Chief of police to officially announce the reinvestigation. Hera had to remain a little mysterious so the netizens wouldn’t question where she got the inside information about the case.
This way, she could maneuver her explanation later, keeping her real identity hidden while letting the netizens credit Dave’s good deeds.
After all, almost everyone already knew she was close to Dave and had an intimate relationship with him. If she dropped subtle hints now, everyone would assume it was Dave who provided the information and that he had long ordered the reinvestigation.
It would appear as if Hera simply happened to encounter these walking disasters, who were connected to the cases, without her having any personal involvement. In this way, she could continue concealing her identity while still making sure these two received their punishment.
Thinking over it, Hera could only smile meaningfully as she looked at Christy and President Lincoln. Just then, the manager who was monitoring the venue arrived with two security guards, halting the tense confrontation between the two sides.
“What’s going on here?” the manager asked. Though he already had a good idea of what was happening, he felt the need to ask, just to break the standoff and diffuse the tension between the factions.
Christy opened her mouth to speak, but Rafael beat her to it.
“These two are causing trouble here and even attacked someone, so we expect a reasonable resolution,” Rafael said, slipping his phone back into his pocket. While Hera had been messaging Dave, he had contacted his PR department to be on standby.
Once Hera and Dave made their move, his team would work behind the scenes, fanning the flames when needed and countering anyone who might try to use the situation to throw dirt at either Hera or Dave.
After all, he was the King of Entertainment. Controlling the flow of news and gossip was second nature to him. And since he understood Hera’s plan, all he could do was support her, ensuring it succeeded, even if it meant backing his love rival, Dave.
Zhane didn’t speak, but the way he stood beside Hera, with his calm, commanding presence, spoke volumes. He clearly supported Rafael’s stance. With so many people and witnesses around, even without words, their position was understood.
And with Hera surrounded by a small army of bodyguards, even the manager would instinctively side with her if he had to choose.
Sure enough, as the manager’s eyes scanned over Hera and her entourage, he instinctively swallowed hard and instantly became deferential, making Hera’s eyebrows twitch slightly. She didn’t say a word, instead letting one of her bodyguards, the captain of her security team, explain the situation.
He subtly dropped hints about the crimes Christy and President Lincoln had committed, giving the manager reason to assist in a citizen’s arrest.
Although Christy had only slapped Athena, and the manager could technically call the police for minor disturbances, the key was to prevent them from fleeing while the reinvestigation was underway.
Since Hera had already dropped her hint, there was a real chance the two might escape as soon as they left the venue.
