Capítulo 1029: Chapter 1029 Hera To The Rescue 3

And now that he had already frightened one woman into silence, he believed it would be even easier to make the both of them bend to his will.

But hearing that the pot‑bellied man actually intended to make Athena and the other girl his “woman,” Christy, who had been quietly rejoicing while pretending to be pitiful, suddenly sprang out of his embrace, bristling like a hedgehog.

“Daddy! What do you mean by that?!” she exclaimed, pouting as she shot him a sharp glare.

Seeing her adorable yet indignant reaction, the pot‑bellied man chuckled heartily, clearly amused by her outburst.

“Okay, okay, silly girl. I’ll stop…” he said, though his words didn’t match the glint in his eyes. Even as he reassured her, he subtly signaled to his assistant to exchange contact details with Athena and the other heiress, arranging for them to discuss everything privately, without Christy catching on.

But would Athena just sit back and accept being targeted, much less being treated like some “mistress material”? The more she saw their blatant actions, the hotter her anger burned; in fact, Athena was even more furious than Christy.

And beside her, Zen was seconds away from snapping completely. He no longer cared about maintaining his image or the potential fallout. If things turned ugly, then so be it; he could deal with the consequences later, even if it meant kneeling on a washboard under his grandfather’s wrath.

Jaw tight, Zen stepped forward and positioned himself directly in front of Athena, blocking her from the pot-bellied man’s lecherous stare, a stare so filthy it didn’t even bother pretending to be subtle.

Even the heiress who had spoken up for Athena shuddered; she felt as if some slick, cold serpent’s tongue had dragged across her skin, leaving her nauseated and repulsed.

“Oh? So we’ve got someone pretending to be a prince charming now?” the pot-bellied man sneered, his voice thick with disdain. “Stop acting like some righteous hero when you’re nothing but a frog at the bottom of a well. If you’re trying to impress her, do it somewhere else. A pretty-faced celebrity like you wouldn’t last a second against my wrath.”

He snorted loudly, lifting his chin as if his nose needed to point at the sky to look down on Zen properly. In his eyes, Zen was nothing more than a gigolo, some handsome boy toy clinging to the woman behind him.

He thought Zen was merely showing off, desperate to prove his masculinity for a few endorsements or scraps of attention.

What he didn’t know, however, was that he was provoking the wrong person. Zen’s grandfather, an influential figure with a powerful military background and a political presence that made businessmen tremble, was no ordinary elder.

Zen, mischievous and rebellious as he often was, had never been a “small frog.” He simply chose the entertainment industry to build something of his own.

Refusing to lean on his family’s influence, and with his family refusing to interfere in his chosen career, Zen kept his background hidden. Because of that, almost no one from the business world knew the truth that Zen was anything but someone who could be bullied easily.

But it was precisely because he kept his background hidden that people looked down on him now. Even as he stood in front of Athena, shielding her, no one took him seriously. Their dismissive gazes cut deeper than he expected.

Zen felt a wave of humiliation and irritation wash over him, but he also knew exactly where he stood. His family might not publicly support his career, but it didn’t mean they would abandon him if he truly needed help. That alone gave him enough confidence to stand firm.

“Ha! Sure, call me a frog in a well if you want, at least mine is just a metaphor,” Zen shot back sharply, his voice slicing through the murmurs around them. “But you, who actually looks like a frog, should be embarrassed to ogle someone else’s woman.”

His words hit the pot-bellied man right on a sore spot, turning his face an ugly shade of red as fury surged up in him.

Athena, hearing Zen openly insult the pot-bellied man, couldn’t help but laugh. She pictured a frog, which perfectly matched the man’s greasy face. Then her gaze flicked to the girl in his arms, who was beautiful, with no resemblance to him whatsoever. A thought suddenly struck her:

‘Could it be that because he has money, he somehow married a beauty queen? Then isn’t this literally Beauty and the Beast? What a lucky jerk… and he still wants a mistress? With that face?’

Her expression twisted in disgust and judgment, and the sight of it only humiliated the pot-bellied man further.

Yes, the pot-bellied man may have had the status, wealth, and a place in the upper elite circle, but he carried his own insecurities, his weight, and his less-than-handsome face.

Unlike some of the young, handsome, successful CEOs around him, many of whom had been groomed from childhood to excel, he shared similar ambitions but was less fortunate in appearance. Despite having a supermodel for a mother, he inherited his father’s features.

Most of the other wealthy CEOs, even when they didn’t marry purely for business alliances, tended to marry the most beautiful women they could find, ensuring that their children would be attractive and upholding a standard within their social circle. As a result, the heirs and heiresses of the elite typically possessed striking, pleasing appearances.

The upper class, of course, wanted their children to be beautiful, as these children would soon become the faces of their businesses, symbols representing their family’s hard work and legacy.

A striking appearance would serve as a powerful advantage, especially in arranged marriages, since humans are inherently visual creatures. Unfortunately for the pot-bellied man, he fell into the 60% of the elite who were not blessed with favorable genes, forced to rely solely on his family’s status and wealth.

That was why, when he saw Zen, all he could do was scowl and show his displeasure. Lacking good looks himself, he had come to take pride in his business acumen, believing that his skill and influence allowed him to look down on beautiful faces that possessed no comparable ability.

Hearing Zen belittle his looks right to his face felt like a slap, as if Zen were spitting on him. The pot-bellied man’s face turned beet-red with anger, and he jabbed a finger at Zen. “You! You! I’ll make sure you get blacklisted!” he growled.

Christy, clinging to her daddy’s arm again, peeked at the scene. It wasn’t Athena who was being blacklisted, but since Zen was Athena’s companion, Christy felt a surge of delight. She imagined that if her daddy blacklisted both Athena and Zen, she might have a chance with Zen herself.

Her eyes drifted to Zen’s handsome, sunny face, his blonde hair gleaming, his usually friendly expression was charming yet could be fierce when needed. He looked like a big, fluffy golden retriever, and she found herself inexplicably drawn to him.

With a flutter of her long lashes, she threw him a suggestive glance, silently hoping to catch his attention. But Zen didn’t even look her way. Instead, he had the energy to snort loudly, openly insulting the pot-bellied man once again.

“Pa! Do you really think I’m scared of you? Do you hold heaven and earth in your hands so you can decide whether to blacklist me? Go ahead, try it! See how well you can play the domineering CEO! Che! You’ve clearly watched too many dramas and let it go to your head, thinking you’re all that when in reality… you’re just a pretentious old man!”

Zen even planted both hands firmly on his hips, daringly trash-talking the pot-bellied man, clearly aiming to push him to the brink of rage. Who wouldn’t feel their blood pressure spike when insulted this badly?

Sure enough, the pot-bellied man felt his blood pressure spike with anger, but before the tension between the two groups could escalate further, it was interrupted by a melodious chuckle.

Everyone watching the scene instinctively turned toward the sound, only to see a handsome gentleman, Zhane, gently pushing the beautiful Hera in her wheelchair. Even seated, her beauty remained untouched; if anything, the wheelchair added a delicate, vulnerable charm, making anyone who saw her want to protect her.

Hera chuckled softly, and in that moment, no one dared speak ill of her. Zhane pushed her closer to where Athena and Zen were standing.

Along the way, Hera’s anger flared as she thought of Athena being bullied, which even brought Athena to tears. But then she heard Zen mercilessly roasting the offending party so thoroughly that it was a wonder they hadn’t passed out from anger.

Hera had momentarily forgotten that, like Athena, Zen had a sharp tongue and no fear of insulting anyone. If anyone needed worrying, it wasn’t Athena or Zen; it was the poor soul who had the misfortune of being on the receiving end of Zen’s sharp tongue.
