Capítulo 1020: Chapter 1020 Plan Moving Forward
“I-I’ll eat less junk food, Dad! Just… don’t tell Mom, okay?” he pleaded, eyes glistening as if on the verge of tears. His mother might be gentle most of the time, but when she was angry, she was like Godzilla, and Bry was certain his poor butt wouldn’t survive another one of her “lessons.”
“Ha! We’ll see about that. Now, let’s go buy you some clothes before the shops close. And remember, behave yourself tomorrow,” Bry’s father said, giving his son a stern look. “Don’t go pointing at things like you’ve handed your sister pocket money, like you always do when you’re with us. Have a little shame, kid…”
He lectured Bry as they walked, determined to make sure the boy wouldn’t embarrass them in front of Hera, their benefactor.
“Dad! You always call me a beggar, but I’m not one, and I do have some shame, okay? I wouldn’t act like that in front of Sister Hera, gosh!” Bry protested, rubbing his arm dramatically as if his skin crawled just from the thought. His exaggerated expression was clearly meant to annoy his father.
Bry’s father snorted. “Ha! So what you’re saying is, you only act shameless in front of me? You’ve got some nerve, kid!” He pretended to be angry as he cornered his son, who only grinned like the pampered little brat he was.
“Ah!” Caught red-handed, Bry bolted out of the house, calling over his shoulder, “Dad! Let’s go or we won’t get the good clothes, they’ll be sold out!” His voice echoed through the apartment hallway as he dashed toward the exit.
To make his uncle’s hospital visits for rehabilitation easier, the family had recently bought a modified van, one that allowed his uncle to be wheeled in comfortably, with enough space to stretch his legs and move around.
By the time Bry disappeared down the elevator toward the basement garage, his father could only shake his head before following after, pushing his brother’s wheelchair toward the elevator.
“Brother, look at what you’ve done, you’ve spoiled your nephew so much he’s become lawless…” Bry’s father muttered in exasperation.
His younger brother chuckled. “Lawless? What are you talking about? He’s just lively and mischievous, perfectly normal for a kid his age. We were far worse when we were young! Don’t you remember diving into the mud to catch frogs? Mom nearly chased you with a slipper after struggling to wash your filthy clothes.”
Bry’s father’s cheeks instantly flushed. “Alright, alright, no need to reminisce about the past. Let’s just get going…” he said hurriedly, pushing the wheelchair toward the elevator. He was anxious to change the subject before Bry overheard his uncle’s story; otherwise, the boy would surely use it against him later, and handling him would become an even bigger headache.
While Bry’s family was on their way to the mall, Hera, having received Bry’s confirmation, nodded in satisfaction. Now that everyone had agreed, all she needed to do was decide on a meeting point so they could enter together.
Since they had VVIP passes, they would be using a special entrance reserved exclusively for distinguished guests, making coordination all the more important.
Because of this, Cherry became even more energetic, as if adrenaline had been injected straight into her veins. She only began to settle down around 8 PM, once she had finally exhausted herself.
Only then did Hera and the others take their leave. Hera felt quite tired herself after spending hours talking with Cherry. Meanwhile, Zhane, Dr. Zigheart, and the eldest Sullivan brother had already finalized the schedule for Cherry’s treatment.
Before Cherry fell asleep, Dr. Zigheart, who had just received the antidote from the black market for the poison that had been used on her, administered it to her. The medicine made Cherry even more drowsy, and she soon drifted into a deep sleep.
Once she was resting soundly, Zhane, Dr. Zigheart, and the eldest Sullivan brother moved to Zhane’s office to finalize the remaining details of their plan, though they already had a solid outline in place.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Sullivan brothers returned home to prepare their arsenal for dealing with Sophia. The fifth Sullivan brother, who would be serving as their lawyer, began organizing all the documents and evidence they had gathered to ensure that once Sophia was brought to court, she would have no way out.
They intended to push for the harshest punishment possible. After all their deliberation, they agreed that imprisonment would be the worst fate Sophia could face.
After all, once Sophia was jailed, not only would she have a criminal record that could destroy her career, but the evidence presented during the trial would completely ruin her reputation and result in her medical license being revoked. Beyond that, no matter where she went, the shadow of the court proceedings would follow her.
To make matters worse, the Sullivans even enlisted Rafael’s help to ensure that the case would trend online for several days so that everyone would know about Sophia’s crimes.
They were also working to make the trial public and livestreamed, something that wasn’t difficult to achieve. All they needed to do was explain to the judge and jury that broadcasting the case would serve as a moral warning to other doctors: a reminder to stay true to their profession and calling.
These days, far too many doctors have begun to prioritize profit over compassion, thinking more about money than the lives entrusted to them. This trial would serve as a wake-up call, that no matter how respected or skilled they were, doctors should never forget the essence of their duty: to heal, not to harm; to uphold life, not destroy it.
And so, with a clear plan now in motion, the Sullivans moved swiftly. While the fifth brother focused on building the legal case, the second Sullivan brother dispatched his men to track down and detain potential witnesses, ensuring Sophia would have no escape route once the trial began.
Fortunately, Zhane had already provided him with a detailed list of everyone involved in the poisoning, accomplices, suppliers, and instigators alike. Among those names was his ex–uncle-in-law.
Since the Everetts had long withdrawn their protection from that man, he was now vulnerable to the full consequences of his actions. The second Sullivan brother intended to make sure he understood just how dangerous it was to play with fire.
Before Zhane shipped the man off, he planned to let him experience the Sullivan family’s form of retaliation, a warning to anyone who dared cross them. Zhane had already made it clear to the Sullivans that he and his family had completely severed ties with his ex–uncle-in-law, effectively giving them permission to handle the matter however they pleased, so long as they didn’t kill him.
After all, the man used to be tied to the Everetts, and out of respect for Zhane and his family’s assistance, the Sullivans would not take his life. But they would break his spirit. Once they were done, he would be turned over to Zhane, who would see to it that the man was sent far away, stripped of his influence, his wealth, and he would never be able to go back home to the country as long as he lived.
The fourth Sullivan brother’s mission was to use his influence on social media to spread the word about Sophia, ensuring that even if she ran away to a remote location, as long as it had internet access, her misdeeds would follow her.
This meant she would have nowhere to hide, and the consequences would be far worse than death itself, destroying everything she had built and her entire life. Even after serving her prison sentence, she would be left with nothing but an ordinary life.
Perhaps she could try to start over in a small mountain village, maybe becoming the local doctor. She could eat well and live comfortably, but any attempt to act against them would make her suffer far beyond death.
Meanwhile, the third Sullivan brother was assigned to guard the borders, preventing Sophia from escaping, just in case. In short, they planned to cut off all of her escape routes before pushing for the court trial. The trial was, in their eyes, the most lenient form of punishment, but they had other measures ready, prepared to respond depending on her actions.
This wasn’t their first choice for dealing with Sophia; at first, they’d wanted something far harsher. But when they saw Cherry happily chatting with Hera, they changed course. They knew Cherry was kind-hearted and sheltered; she’d been raised in a greenhouse and had never really seen how dark-hearted people could be.
If she learned the full extent of what would happen to Sophia, especially after being betrayed by her and then finding out about the poisoning, it would shatter her. It might even traumatize her.
So, for Cherry’s sake, they decided to keep the public side legal for now. They would push for the court trial and let the system handle the rest, while quietly placing people to watch over (and control) Sophia inside the prison.
