Capítulo 1019: Chapter 1019 Inviting Bry

Even if the majority couldn’t afford these high-end treatments, the wealthy certainly could.

People of means place the highest value on their health and wouldn’t hesitate to spend vast sums to ensure recovery with minimal side effects. After all, who would want to wake up every day enduring new pains caused by the very medicine meant to heal them? No one.

Moreover, the reason drugs developed this way are so expensive lies in the complexity of the process itself. Since the goal is precision, every property of each herb must be carefully extracted and separated, isolating what’s needed while removing what’s unnecessary or potentially harmful.

This meticulous procedure takes time, and creating even a single drug can span years of research, trials, and refinement.

Most investors lack the patience or confidence to fund such uncertain ventures. Without guaranteed results, few would dare pour money into something driven purely by ideals, except Hera.

She allowed Dr. Zigheart to pursue his vision freely, supporting his work from the ground up. And thanks to her unlimited funding and unwavering trust, what should have taken years was achieved in just a few months, a feat that could only be described as miraculous.

With state-of-the-art equipment and the brightest minds gathered under one roof, Dr. Zigheart’s laboratory stood at the forefront of medical innovation.

To reduce the production cost of the drugs, Dr. Zigheart came up with a unique approach; instead of focusing on one formula at a time, he developed several drugs simultaneously. He would take the unnecessary byproducts or excess properties from one drug and repurpose them in another, ensuring that no material went to waste.

Through this innovative method, he successfully created multiple drug variants that are now in the testing phase.

However, not just anyone could pull off such a feat. This brilliance is exactly why Dr. Zigheart earned the title of a genius alongside Zhane. His mind is exceptional, constantly brimming with new ideas and solutions.

While most research institutes struggle for years to find a single breakthrough, he’s like a walking goldmine of inspiration.

It was this potential that made Hera decide to support him from the very beginning. When he first pitched his ideas, they sounded far-fetched, even like the ramblings of a madman. Yet, Hera took a chance on him.

She provided the capital, purchased the equipment, and funded the construction of the institute step by step, using nearly all the money she earned from her investments. This is also why she’s often broke; building an entire research institute is like feeding a black hole, constantly consuming every bit of funding she can gather.

And now that the lab was finally moving in the right direction, they were only a few months away from getting the results they needed before releasing the product to the public and starting mass production.

Everything was going well; in fact, Hera could already establish her own pharmaceutical company and register it under her name.

Their production costs had dropped significantly, thanks to the mountain her grandfather had gifted her, where many of the herbs they used were being sourced. If she wanted, she could even set up her own herb farm to further support the company’s operations.

After all, if they planned to profit from selling the drug formulas to other pharmaceutical companies, having her own brand didn’t seem like a bad idea at all.

And with her current connection to Zhane, she wouldn’t even need to build her own hospital; she could simply collaborate with Zhane’s hospital for the distribution and testing of the drugs. Everything was lining up perfectly, and for once, it felt like her efforts were finally paying off.

Actually, Hera had already secured several acres of land and part of a mountain to serve as her herb farm the moment she decided to support Dr. Zigheart. That way, they could reduce costs from sourcing materials elsewhere.

However, there was a key difference between the herbs grown on the farm and the wild ones from the mountain her grandfather had gifted her; the wild herbs were naturally stronger and rarer in quality.

Because of that, Hera avoided overharvesting the wild herbs, knowing how difficult they were to find. For now, those were reserved mainly for personal use and her collaboration with Zhane’s hospital.

Once the herbs from the farm had matured and were ready for large-scale use, she planned to replace the wild herbs entirely with the cultivated ones for production.

Thinking of Bry, who had been sent to the city by his father to study while the latter managed the collaboration with her horse ranch and his uncle recovering, Hera decided to invite the kid over.

After all, Bry still didn’t have many friends in the city and was still adjusting to his new environment. He might return to his village with his uncle once the latter fully recovered, or maybe not, but for now, it wouldn’t hurt to look after him. After all, he had taken care of her back in the village. With that thought, she sent him a message.

…

[Hera: Hey, Bry! Long time no see. I just wanted to ask if you’re free tomorrow? I still have one extra ticket for Logan’s debut concert. Would you like to come?]

[Bry: OMG!!! Sister Hera, you still remember me?! I just watched your race video and wanted to check if you were okay…]

[Bry: (T-T)]

[Bry: I was so worried…]

[Hera: I’m fine now! I can even go out to have some fun. So, want to come?]

[Bry: Yes! Yes!!! I’ll come with Sister Hera! Wait, I’ll tell Dad right away, I’m sure he’ll even send me to you, hahaha!]

[Hera: No need. Your father’s busy. Just ask for his permission, and if he says yes, I’ll have someone pick you up tomorrow.]

[Bry: Okay! I’ll do as Sister Hera says and just ask Dad to let me go with you…]

[—3 minutes later—]

[Bry: Sister, Dad agreed! He told me not to be a pain in the ass when I’m with you…]

[Hera: Haha, you don’t have to be that honest about what your father said.]

[Bry: Hehe, I’m just so excited! What time will you be picking me up?]

[Hera: The concert starts at 7 PM sharp, and there’ll probably be traffic around 6, so I’ll send someone to pick you up around 4 PM. We’ll have dinner here, so no need to eat early.]

[Bry: Roger that, Sister! I’ll tell Dad so we can pick out my clothes for tomorrow.]

[Hera: Alright, see you tomorrow! (^__^)]

…

“Dad! Let’s go! We need to buy something nice for me to wear tomorrow. I don’t want to look like a beggar next to Sister Hera! Besides, didn’t you just get your first payment from the horse ranch collaboration? Don’t be stingy with me, okay?” Bry tugged insistently at his father’s sleeve, his eyes gleaming with excitement.

A vein popped on his father’s forehead as he resisted the urge to smack the boy’s head. He had done that too many times before and worried it might make his son even more foolish. “Don’t act like I’m not feeding you well! Just look at yourself, you’ve grown rounder by the day. Instead of thinking you’re a beggar, people might mistake you for a little pig!”

“Dad! You’re overreacting! I only gained a little weight. What do you mean, I turned into a pig? Just admit you’re being stingy and don’t want to buy me new clothes!” Bry argued, puffing his cheeks in protest.

“Ha! Stingy, my foot! You’ve got plenty of clothes,” his father snorted, rolling his eyes while placing his hands on his hips. “It’s not my fault they don’t fit anymore! You’re the one who kept eating like there’s no tomorrow.”

Bry’s uncle, who was sitting nearby in his wheelchair, couldn’t help but laugh. With a grin, he rolled himself closer and said between chuckles, “Ah, you two never change. Every time you argue, it’s always about food or clothes!”

“The two of you, stop bickering,” Bry’s uncle said with a chuckle. “Let’s all go buy Bry some new clothes. After all, he’s the reason we’re doing so well now. If he hadn’t helped Miss Hera and supported her when they filmed in our village, we wouldn’t have what we have today. So, let’s treat this little ancestor to some new clothes, and maybe a good meal while we’re at it.”

He reached out and ruffled Bry’s hair affectionately, making the boy puff up with pride as he shot his father a smug look, eyes squinting in triumph.

“Brother, you’re spoiling this kid too much,” Bry’s father said with a sigh, glancing at his son. “Just look at him, he’s been eating so much junk food he’s practically round now. I swear, if my wife sees him like this, she’ll go ballistic.”

He said it partly to tease, partly to scare the boy, and it worked. The moment Bry heard mention of his mother, he froze, his skin crawling as he swallowed hard.
