Capítulo 1018: Chapter 1018 One More Ticket
Bringing Cherry along might help lift her mood instead of letting her stay cooped up in the hospital room all day.
With that thought, Hera turned to Zhane, Dr. Zigheart, and the eldest Sullivan brother, her clear doe-like eyes silently asking for their opinion and permission to bring Cherry along.
Seeing Hera’s expression, the three men couldn’t bring themselves to say anything that might reject her silent request. It was as if their throats had tightened all at once, especially Zhane and the eldest Sullivan brother.
With Hera’s striking features paired with that gentle, pleading look in her eyes, it felt like Cupid himself had taken aim at their hearts. In the end, all they could do was nod weakly in agreement, particularly the doctors, who had been closely monitoring Cherry’s condition.
But Hera wasn’t wrong. Although Cherry’s body was still weak from the poison Sophia had administered, her emotional state was just as important as her physical health. A positive mood would greatly aid her recovery when paired with the right medication.
Now that the doctors had already identified the type of poison in her system, all that remained was to administer the antidote and allow her body to gradually rebuild its immunity before beginning the full treatment.
It would take time, and letting Cherry do things that made her happy would prevent her from feeling trapped and restless in the hospital, something that could easily worsen her condition. Hera’s thoughtful suggestion to introduce Cherry to her friends not only lifted the atmosphere but also deepened the Sullivan brothers’ gratitude toward her.
After all, they knew their little sister never had real friends she could truly open up to. Most of the people around her were superficial, only staying close for appearances or benefits.
But with the good impression Hera had already made on them, the brothers believed that someone like her wouldn’t associate with troublemakers. They felt reassured and trusted Hera to take Cherry out and let her have some fun.
“Thank you, Miss Hera, for making our Cherry happy. How about we have our bodyguards escort you both to the venue for your safety?” the second Sullivan brother suggested warmly.
Hera shook her head gently. “No need. My bodyguards are always with me, so I can assure you nothing will happen to Cherry. Besides, Zhane will be coming with us tomorrow. With him there, not only will she be safe, but she’ll also have a doctor watching over her, so you can rest easy.” Hera explained with a reassuring smile.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Cherry’s face brighten, her eyes lighting up with excitement.
“Really?!” Cherry almost squealed. If she hadn’t been so weak from her condition, she might have jumped up and down on the bed from sheer joy.
Hera nodded, but the Sullivan brothers exchanged looks, raising their brows in unspoken understanding, as if their earlier speculation about her and Zhane had just been confirmed. Still, if Zhane was really coming along, they could rest easy.
He would be able to tell right away whether Cherry’s body could handle the outing or not, and if necessary, he could decide whether she needed to be sent back. Besides, with Hera still recovering from her own injuries, having a doctor with them was definitely a necessity.
But Hera wasn’t done finalizing who would be coming along, so she invited the others to join in. So far, she had ten VVIP tickets. Those confirmed to go were herself, Zhane, Rafael, Liz, Minerva, Athena, Zen, and Cherry, eight people in total. That meant she still had two tickets left.
Her gaze then drifted toward the quiet Dr. Zigheart, and a mischievous glint flickered in her eyes. She had just received a message from Xavier saying he was still too busy learning the ropes of his family business, with his grandfather refusing to let him leave for now.
Meanwhile, Dave and Luke were occupied preparing for a raid on the Northern Faction’s armory, and Leo was definitely out of the question, though he appeared fine; his body was still battered and bruised, and his ribs were healing under strict medical supervision along with his subordinates.
So, instead of thinking about anyone else, Hera decided to bring Dr. Zigheart along; after all, it would be the perfect chance to subtly push her little plan of matching him up with Cherry.
“I still have two available tickets, so Dr. Zigheart will be coming as well. Since there are two patients in the group, it would be best to have two doctors present to monitor our conditions individually and prevent any mishaps,” Hera said smoothly.
Her tone was so natural and convincing that everyone easily accepted her reasoning; it made perfect sense, after all. Besides, Dr. Zigheart would never refuse his Young Miss. If she told him to head east, he’d go east without question. And so, he simply nodded in quiet acknowledgment, his face as expressionless as ever.
Hearing this and seeing Dr. Zigheart agree, Cherry’s face lit up even more, her eyes sparkling with admiration as she looked at Hera, as if she had just made a lifelong decision to follow her everywhere like a devoted little shadow. The look on her face was so pure and adorable that Hera almost burst out laughing on the spot.
Now, she was left with only one ticket. Since she had no one else in mind to invite, she immediately thought of the little boy who had been staying with his recuperating uncle, Bry.
The child still hadn’t returned to his village, as his father had recently signed a contract with Hera’s horse ranch, while his uncle was steadily recovering after a successful surgery performed by Zhane.
At present, Bry’s uncle was receiving a new set of experimental medication developed in Dr. Zigheart’s lab. They were still in the process of gathering data on the drug’s effectiveness, but so far, the feedback had been promising.
Thanks to his uncle’s participation in the trials, the preliminary phase was completed, and they were now entering the mid-stage testing. His rehabilitation was also progressing well; his nerves had begun responding properly, and he was now considered highly likely to walk again in the future.
Interestingly, the drug used on Bry’s uncle was closely related to the one both Hera and Leo were taking. Both formulas were developed around the same time and shared several key ingredients.
However, while their effects were similar, each was fine-tuned to target specific parts of the body or illnesses to maximize effectiveness and minimize side effects. After all, the broader the target range, the more materials and herbs were required, and too many active compounds could easily overburden the body.
As the saying goes, too much of anything can be harmful, even when it comes to healing herbs. While certain herbs can greatly help the body recover, an excess of them or an unnecessary combination could lead to unintended consequences.
If a compound contains herbs that have no role in treating the patient’s specific condition, their effects would simply accumulate in the body without purpose. Eventually, these unused properties could manifest as side effects, some of which might be severe and harmful to the patient’s health.
For this reason, developing drugs that specifically target one illness at a time is far more effective. By selecting herbs and materials with precision, the formulation ensures that every ingredient serves a clear purpose.
This not only enhances the drug’s potency but also minimizes the risk of unnecessary or harmful side effects.
However, this approach also significantly increases the cost of production, which is why only a few laboratories pursue this kind of drug development. Most prefer to create generalized medications that can treat multiple illnesses with similar symptoms.
If pharmaceutical companies focused on producing general-purpose drugs that targeted multiple illnesses with similar symptoms, they could maximize profit. After all, nothing from the raw materials would go to waste; every part of the herb or compound could be used, making mass production more efficient and cost-effective.
However, creating specialized drugs was a different story. In that case, only select components of each ingredient were needed, and the rest had to be discarded. This process not only wasted valuable materials but also drove production costs sky-high.
By the time such a drug was released to the market, its price would have to be set exorbitantly high just to break even.
Naturally, the average person wouldn’t be able to afford it, and the market for such expensive medicine would shrink drastically. In the end, if sales failed to keep up with the production cost, the lab would have no choice but to halt development altogether, turning years of work into nothing more than wasted time and effort.
After all, not every lab enjoys the financial backing of powerful conglomerates like the Avery family, and few medical industries have the means to sustain such precise and resource-intensive research.
The only reason Hera allowed Dr. Zigheart to take this specialized path was because she could afford it, and because she saw the long-term value in it.
