Chapter 1017: Chapter 1017 Lucas Backed In A Corner
Unfortunately for Lucas, Minerva had been overly generous when drafting his deal, charmed by his sweet words and self-assured charm, which was also one of the reasons Rafael’s anger toward him ran so deep.
That generosity had now backfired spectacularly. The breach penalty alone amounted to fifty million, and Rafael couldn’t help but sneer in satisfaction. Even in Lucas’s downfall, he found a way to squeeze some use out of that despicable man.
Still, Rafael wasn’t entirely at fault. Minerva had only approved such favorable terms because she genuinely believed in Lucas’s talent. But the moment he committed plagiarism, a deliberate act, he not only destroyed his own reputation but dragged Star Ocean Entertainment’s name through the mud along with him.
It was only natural for Rafael to sue Lucas now. That was also why Lucas had grown so desperate. To make matters worse, as if rubbing salt into his wounds, after being jailed and later released on bail thanks to Logan’s parents, who helped him out of pity, things only spiraled further.
They had even mortgaged their home and used their retirement savings to give him a chance to fight his case.
And yet, now, Logan’s concert posters were plastered all over the city, across walls, billboards, and even massive electronic screens that must have cost millions. It was undeniable proof of Logan’s rising success.
Seeing that, Lucas felt like he was going insane. Logan was shining brighter than ever, a star adored by thousands, while he had fallen so low, becoming a rat crawling through the gutter. His eyes burned with fury and denial.
He refused to believe he had lost to Logan, the one he had always looked down on. All his life, Lucas believed that anything Logan valued could be taken from him with a snap of his fingers. But now, nothing was going according to his will or plans, and everyone around him had begun to turn away.
He wanted to taunt Logan using his old, familiar tricks by targeting Logan’s family. Lucas planned to tell him that the old couple had used their life savings and even mortgaged their house just to bail him out after being jailed for plagiarism while awaiting trial.
By doing so, he hoped to provoke Logan and remind him of the burden his parents had taken on because of him. But how could he let Logan know and taunt him if he can’t even reach Logan?
Lucas had tried to use his connections to find a powerful lawyer to fight his case in court, but every attempt had ended in failure, and every door he knocked on slammed in his face. Frustration boiled inside him, and now his hatred for Logan had reached its peak.
Unfortunately for Lucas, Logan had blocked both him and his parents to fully focus on his upcoming concert, especially since his benefactor and crush, Hera, would be there. He didn’t want anyone disrupting his concentration.
This was also part of the reason his parents had chosen to help Lucas. Out of anger and wounded pride, they saw Logan’s distance as defiance, as if he were cutting them off now that he had reached the peak of his career.
To them, it was nothing more than petty squabbles, never once considering Logan’s feelings.
Now that he was spreading his wings and finally living freely, they no longer recognized the son they once controlled. Feeling that he was slipping out of their grasp, they resorted to their old tactics, using jealousy as bait.
By supporting Lucas, they hoped to make Logan fold, to guilt him into returning to their side and yielding to Lucas once again.
But Logan had already awakened. He had long given up on the illusion of familial love, realizing instead that love came in many forms, and some were far more genuine than the one he had been born into.
He came to this realization after countless nights spent with the Music Director of UE, the man who had stayed by his side, helping him clear his name. That man had treated him more like a son than his own father ever did. And Hera… she had shown him more generosity, faith, and kindness than his mother ever had.
When Logan finally woke up from his disillusionment, he made a vow: from that moment on, he would dedicate his time and effort to those who truly valued him, to the fans who believed in him and eagerly awaited his concert, to the Music Director who had trusted him when no one else did, and most of all, to Hera, the one who had seen his potential and pulled him out of the darkness.
Because of this, neither Lucas nor Logan’s parents could find any peace. By now, Lucas had likely received the summons for both Logan’s and Rafael’s cases, and Rafael was determined to squeeze every last drop of payback from him.
If not for the law, Rafael might have shipped Lucas off to Myanmar himself for what he’d done. Unfortunately, since Dave was a politician, any rash move could drag him into the mess as well. So instead, Rafael chose a different path, to be as calculatedly petty as possible.
“Tsk.” Rafael clicked his tongue as he scrolled through the comments about Lucas on social media. Even the fifth Sullivan brother had heard of Lucas’s case and chose not to get involved.
Their law firm had received a request for representation, but after reviewing the case files, he quickly lost interest. He despised people like Lucas and believed the world was better off with fewer of them.
Meanwhile, Hera also received a few messages about Logan. Betty kept sending her the latest gossip, knowing that Hera was the one who had brought Logan into the company. She assumed Hera would be curious about his situation, so without waiting for her to ask, Betty sent her updates on the case, along with a cheerful reminder about tomorrow’s concert.
The concert wasn’t just Logan’s debut into the industry; it was also a bold statement of victory against plagiarism. Even though the case hadn’t yet reached the court, everyone already knew which side was winning, and this event served to make that message clear to the public.
By doing so, they were building a solid foundation for Logan’s career, ensuring that he could rise even higher on the international stage in the future. Nothing could stop his ascent as a young musical genius and singer-songwriter.
Seeing how things were unfolding for Logan, Hera was more certain than ever that she had successfully changed his fate from the novel. Soon, he would break free from his destined path and truly soar higher than ever before.
The thought filled her with warmth and quiet optimism, and a soft hum escaped her lips as a smile curved on her face, right when a new message notification from Betty appeared at the top of her phone screen.
However, since Hera was sitting close to Cherry, who was still chatting with her about social media trends, Cherry couldn’t help but glance at Hera’s phone. The moment she caught sight of the pop-up message, she gasped aloud, snapping Hera out of her thoughts as she turned toward her in surprise.
“Ah! You’re going to Logan’s concert tomorrow?!” Cherry exclaimed, her lips curling into a pout as her expression turned dejected. “I really like his songs too, but unfortunately… since it’s his debut concert and so many people are curious about him, the tickets sold out the moment they were released! The online platform even crashed because too many people were trying to buy at once. I didn’t manage to get a single ticket…”
Her voice trailed off, and her eyes grew red like a rabbit’s. No matter how Hera looked at her, Cherry just seemed so soft and easy to bully that Hera’s heart couldn’t help but melt a little.
“Do you want to come?” Hera asked simply, not bothering to elaborate.
Cherry looked up, lips still puckered as she hesitated. “Um…” she hummed softly.
“Then why don’t you come with us?” Hera offered with a gentle smile. “I still have a few spare tickets, and my other girlfriends will be there too. You could meet them, they’re really nice people, and I’m sure you’d like them.”
Hera knew that someone like Cherry probably didn’t have many real friends, so she wanted to reach out. Inviting her was Hera’s way of extending a hand; if Cherry got along with them, great, but if not, at least she’d tried.
A girl as sweet and likable as Cherry shouldn’t be left all alone. Besides, Athena, Liz, and even Minerva, who had changed a lot since before, were all kind and easy to get along with. Hera truly believed Cherry would fit right in.
Especially with Minerva, who shared many things in common with Cherry, both were active on social media, and Minerva had just started her new career as a beauty blogger. Hera thought the two would have plenty to talk about.
