Chapter 1008: Chapter 1008 Gathered All The Evidences
“Alright, alright. Drink some water first, then have some fruit,” Rafael said, placing a cup of warm water beside Hera. Zhane took it and gently helped her sip, while Rafael speared a pear and waited patiently for her to finish before offering her a bite.
“Am I not getting any?” Leo teased, flashing Rafael a playful smile, though it was clear he was just looking to spar with him. Zhane shook his head, feigning exasperation as if to say, ‘kids…’ at the two.
The easy, playful atmosphere eased Hera’s mind, and she watched them with crescent-shaped eyes, quietly smiling at their happiness.
Rafael rolled his eyes, but after feeding Hera a pear, he carefully used a separate fork to serve Leo. Leo, after taking a bite, smiled at Rafael just as Hera had, and seeing this, Hera couldn’t help but let out a light laugh.
She noticed Rafael’s exasperated expression, while Zhane simply looked resigned, as if he had long accepted that the people around him, well, the men, were all childish.
After they finished their snacks and had a chance to rest, Zhane returned to business. He informed them of what he had discovered upon returning to their family mansion, including informing his family of what his ex-uncle-in-law had done.
As he had expected, the moment his grandfather learned of it, he flew into a rage, while his distant aunt-in-law wept, regretting ever marrying a live-in son-in-law.
Not only had she been cheated on by such a man, but he had also tried to ruin her entire family for revenge. Zhane’s distant auntie felt even smaller and more deflated in front of the rest of the family, and because of this, she didn’t want to get involved in punishing her ex-husband, leaving everything to Zhane’s hands.
As for Zhane’s grandfather, he, too, entrusted everything to Zhane, confident in his judgment. Having watched Zhane grow up, he knew he was a reasonable man who wouldn’t go overboard in punishing one crooked relative like his ex-uncle-in-law.
The Everett patriarch felt it wasn’t worth stressing over such a man. The fact that Zhane had returned home just to inform them, seeking their approval to act without hindrance, was proof that he already had solid evidence and a well-thought-out plan.
“You can do whatever you want, just don’t let me see that vermin again! We supported his lavish lifestyle for years, even though he came from nothing, just because your distant aunt liked him so much.”
“His family even married him into ours without shame, and we accepted it, but is this what we get in return for indulging his every whim? To try and ruin decades of our family’s hard work and dedication, when it was he who made all the wrong choices?! Such audacity!”
The Everett patriarch roared in fury, his anger fueled by every concession he had made over the years to preserve family harmony. In fact, the reason Zhane had sought their approval before acting was precisely to avoid disturbing that balance.
Though his distant aunt was technically not part of his immediate family, she still carried the Everett name, making her part of the lineage. For generations, their family had raised doctors devoted to both healing the sick and maintaining familial harmony, always prioritizing the family’s needs.
Even though this ex-uncle-in-law had left the family, the patriarch worried that his distant aunt might still feel sympathy for him. Her dissatisfaction could easily spill over, sowing discord or prompting others to question Zhane’s actions, potentially placing the patriarch himself in a delicate and difficult position.
Luckily, the Everetts were all reasonable people who could distinguish right from wrong. As soon as they heard Zhane’s report, their anger flared, not just at the man’s embezzlement and deceit, but at the fact that he had been let off too easily.
They believed he should have been punished more severely, instilled with fear so he would think twice before crossing their family again. Yet somehow, that man had managed to bail himself out of prison, and still had the audacity to target their family.
To make matters worse, he had revealed the inner workings of their hospital to an outsider, to that female doctor who exploited the information to harm one of their important patients.
Actually, one reason he returned to seek his grandfather’s approval was because, for security purposes, his grandfather had installed hidden cameras in blind spots that only he and Zhane’s father knew about.
Only his grandfather had access to these cameras. So, how did Zhane get hold of this information?
It was actually just a coincidence that Zhane discovered the truth. But knowing his grandfather, who always had a Plan B to ensure the hospital had no loopholes and no one could exploit it, the idea that he would leave blind spots in the security cameras seemed completely out of character.
Zhane could only take a gamble.
Who would have thought that when he asked his father about it, his father would assume Zhane already knew?
After all, his grandfather had always intended for Zhane, as the heir of the Everett family, to eventually learn such matters. The hidden cameras were deliberately installed to create a false sense of security for anyone scheming against the family, making them believe they had the advantage, only to be caught off guard when they least expected it.
This way, Zhane’s family could easily bring down their enemies.
The only reason Zhane’s grandfather and father, who had access to the hidden security cameras, never caught Zhane’s ex-uncle-in-law embezzling and committing shady deeds in the hospital was simple: they never thought to use them for such purposes and never would ahve thought that he’d stoop so low.
After all, they had always trusted their family completely and had never treated any family member unfairly, which had kept their harmony intact for years.
So, Zhane used his father to test his theory, and it proved correct. Now that he knew the hospital truly had that hidden safety measure in place, once he received his grandfather’s approval, he was granted access to the footage and allowed to investigate freely.
Sure enough, after going through the compiled recordings, Zhane managed to capture the female doctor on camera exchanging a vial containing the poison she later administered to Cherry with his ex-uncle-in-law’s help.
In some clips, the footage even showed her placing the poison in home-cooked dishes she brought to Cherry, unaware that the area she thought was a blind spot actually had a hidden camera.
Moreover, Zhane’s team managed to track the doctor’s every action these past few weeks and even obtained her call records. All of these incriminating pieces of evidence piled up, creating a solid case that proved the two were working together to commit murder.
Combined with the hidden camera footage from the hospital and the file Gerald sent listing those who purchased the poison on the black market, everything aligned perfectly, there was no way Zhane’s ex-uncle-in-law or the female doctor could escape justice.
Having completed their part and secured the evidence they needed, Zhane and Hera turned their attention to Leo.
“So now that you know we already have all the incriminating evidence to ensure she’s jailed for life, what’s your stance?” Zhane probed. They already knew Leo wouldn’t interfere, nor would he care to save the woman, but he needed to be certain, after all, this was still the Leo who had lost his memory.
“You can do whatever you want. That just serves me right and saves me some time,” Leo replied nonchalantly, as if her fate didn’t matter. He couldn’t even recall her name.
All he remembered was that he had fired her because he disliked how she got close to him, and she had never left any impression. Now that her true nature had revealed itself, why would Leo even bother thinking about a woman with a dark heart?
Hearing Leo’s stance, Zhane let out a sigh. After all, that woman had worked for Leo for who knows how long, and he was even the one who had recommended her to their hospital, so it was only natural he wanted to be informed.
“Alright, I’ll handle this accordingly and inform the Sullivans so they know the situation and can decide what they want to do. If they choose to sue her or make things difficult for her, there’s no need for us to intervene. I can let the hospital provide the evidence directly to them.”
“After all, we promised the Sullivans an explanation, and now that they have it, I’m sure they’ll take whatever action they deem necessary.”
“As for Cherry Sullivan…” Zhane paused, momentarily stumped. He knew why the Sullivans had treated that doctor so well, and sending her to prison could severely jeopardize Cherry’s chances of getting a bone marrow transplant.
But then he remembered Hera and Dr. Zigheart. If Hera hadn’t mentioned anything about Cherry despite being so involved, it must mean she had other plans, and that Cherry wouldn’t be negatively affected. With that thought, Zhane finally allowed himself to relax.
