Chapter 1001: Chapter 1001 Confrontation 5
And so, Silvia didn’t get the reaction she expected. The onlookers who had come with her initially thought they were about to witness a scandalous scene, the real fiancée confronting the mistress.
Some even assumed they’d end up at the gynecology department, catching the mistress in the middle of a pregnancy consultation. But to their shock, the accused “mistress” turned out to be Hera.
Now, their excitement soured into a swirl of confusion and unease. A few even felt a twinge of fear. After all, everyone who had ever crossed Hera had ended up exposed; she had a reputation for striking back not with violence, but with truth.
If she chose to dig into their lives, she could easily unearth their darkest secrets and destroy their careers overnight.
And yet, mixed with that fear was reluctant admiration. Seeing Hera in person was an entirely different experience; she was even more stunning, composed, and commanding than in the countless photos and videos that had already made her a national sensation.
Her skin was smooth and fair, with a soft, supple glow. Her eyes were soul-stirring, deep, perceptive, as though they could see far beyond the surface, and there was a faint, mischievous glint in them that made her all the more captivating.
The fragility brought on by her injury only added to her allure, lending her an air of delicate vulnerability. Altogether, she resembled a wild lily blooming in a secluded valley, pure and innocent at first glance, yet quietly resilient, with a strength that irresistibly drew people in.
Silvia, unaware of what was truly happening and frustrated that she wasn’t getting the reaction she expected, bristled in irritation until her temper finally snapped.
“Who? Don’t you know?” she nearly shouted. “I’m talking about Leo Hendrix! The Averys and the Hendrix family have had an arranged marriage planned since I was born, didn’t you know that? It’s fine if you want to climb the social ladder, but that doesn’t mean you can latch yourself onto Leo!”
This revelation instantly ignited nationwide controversy, catching everyone completely off guard. Until now, no one had known Leo’s true identity; he had only ever mentioned, once, that he was from a branch of the Hendrix family and worked as a manager in one of their subsidiary companies.
That was during the time he presented the championship trophy to Hera at the equestrian race.
But with Silvia suddenly claiming that she and Leo had a long-standing arranged marriage between the Avery and Hendrix families, everything changed. In an instant, Leo’s status skyrocketed.
And since Silvia had just publicly introduced herself as the Avery heiress, her words sent shockwaves through the internet; what should’ve been a simple confrontation had turned into a full-blown scandal.
Unfortunately for Silvia, she had no idea that Leo had already introduced himself publicly before, as a member of the Hendrix branch family and merely a manager in one of their companies.
She assumed everyone knew he was now the one running the Hendrix conglomerate, and because of that misunderstanding, the reactions around her were far from what she expected.
Marriage alliances between powerful families were complicated matters, difficult for ordinary netizens to fully grasp. So while Silvia’s revelation did cause a brief stir online, the buzz quickly died down.
Few people actually condemned Hera for it, perhaps because they lived in a world modeled after a reverse-harem novel, where such entanglements weren’t exactly shocking.
And with Hera’s “female lead halo” strengthening her popularity and likability, the public naturally leaned in her favor. After all, she’d appeared with Leo countless times before, and many already recognized the closeness between them.
Compared to Hera, whose reputation and charm were well-established, Silvia, who suddenly emerged out of nowhere and started calling Hera a mistress, came off as the real intruder.
After all, this wasn’t the ancient era where arranged marriages were the norm. In modern times, people value freedom in love and the right to choose their own partners. Besides, even if things were truly as Silvia claimed, it was most likely just a verbal agreement between two families.
And if there was an actual contract involved, then it was Leo’s responsibility to handle it, not Silvia’s place to confront Hera so aggressively.
Because of that, most people felt that Silvia had gone too far by attacking Hera like this.
…
[HeraIsMySister: Hey! Why is this woman going after my sister Hera like that? If it’s true that she has a marriage arrangement with Leo, then shouldn’t she be discussing it with the elders of both families and letting them resolve it?]
[HeraIsMySister: It’s not like Leo is actually her boyfriend or that he cheated on her. She even said it herself; it was just an old agreement between families.]
[HeraIsMySister: And does Leo even acknowledge it? Was he even aware of it? As far as I know, he only has eyes for our sister Hera!]
[Mimi: @HeraIsMySister Are you saying the heiress of the Avery family is lying or just being delusional, trying to hold onto a man with some old family agreement? She might not even know that Leo and Hera are a thing.]
[Mimi: As far as I know, the Avery heiress has been studying overseas at Princeton, so maybe she really doesn’t know what’s going on and is just trying to reclaim what she thinks is hers.]
[DeluluLandOwner: Right, this Miss Avery probably just came back from abroad, and finding out that her supposed fiancé is cozying up with another woman must’ve been a huge shock. So, we can’t really blame her for losing her temper and treating Hera like a mistress.]
[DeluluLandOwner: I’m not saying Hera is one; maybe she didn’t even know about any family agreement and just got caught in the middle of it. Honestly, we should just wait for Leo Hendrix or his family to speak up so everyone can understand the situation better.]
[AuntieNextDoor: But the Avery and Hendrix families have never mentioned anything about a marriage arrangement. If it really existed and had been planned long ago, wouldn’t other families close to them have known about it?]
[AuntieNextDoor: At the very least, the upper-class circles should’ve heard this kind of juicy gossip ages ago. But no, there’s never been any talk like that among the elites. So that means either both families are really good at keeping secrets, or there was never such an agreement in the first place.]
[AuntieNextDoor: And even if something like that did exist, it was probably just a casual joke between elders that no one ever took seriously.]
[AuntieNextDoor: Besides, with my little sister Hera having so many choices, like Young Minister Dave Carson, Star Ocean Entertainment’s CEO Rafael Briley, Silver Screen Emperor Xavier Montague, the financial world’s Midas Hand Luke Greyson, and even the medical genius Dr. Zhane Everett, not to mention the son of the richest man in Paris, Alexander Arnault, who literally followed her back to the country… do you really think she’s so desperate that she’d need to be someone’s mistress?]
[AuntieNextDoor: Please. That only means one thing: either Leo doesn’t recognize this so-called “old marriage arrangement,” or there was never one to begin with.]
[BelindaIsMyName: @AuntieNextDoor So, are you saying the Avery heiress is being delusional and forcing herself onto Leo Hendrix? Let’s not forget, Leo’s from a branch of the Hendrix family, while Silvia is a legitimate heiress.]
[BelindaIsMyName: There’s a clear difference in their status. I doubt Silvia would be that desperate. And sure, Hera might be amazing with her long list of suitors, but do you really think Silvia Avery is any worse than her?]
[BelindaIsMyName: I don’t think so. One’s a woman born into an elite conglomerate family, while the other’s just a canary living under someone else’s kindness.]
[HeraIsMySister: @BelindaIsMyName Hey! That’s way out of line. Are you implying my sister Hera is some kind of kept woman?! Like you said yourself, she’s an incredible, independent woman who’s made a name for herself through hard work and talent.]
[HeraIsMySister: She doesn’t need anyone’s “benevolence.” Sister Hera can win international racing championships and earn millions on her own. She’s also a jewelry designer who’s won prestigious competitions purely on merit, and let’s not forget, she’s a successful actress with multiple investments to her name.]
[HeraIsMySister: So tell me, do you honestly believe she needs a man to survive? Whatever path she chooses, she thrives in it, and that’s exactly why men are drawn to her. Don’t act like you’re not jealous and then try to disguise your insults as subtle remarks.]
[HeraIsMySister: That’s just low. We women should be supporting and empowering one another, not dragging each other down.]
