Chapter 578: Sapphire’s Spotlight

Yacob was writing down key points of information from the group he just dismissed. He was incredibly envious of a particular lad who had this quasi sub Mindspace where he kept a bunch of pets with him at all times.

That one was basically Yacob’s dream power. To be able to walk around with all his creatures at once… But he was a realist and didn’t fantasise for too long, his current ability was more than enough and he loved his beasties and his job so he couldn’t feel too bad about it.

There were a lot of oddball powers this year. He couldn’t help noticing. From body alteration, one man could turn his left arm into a hardened spear that could pierce through metal and woman sprouted wings on her back and began flying around, something that would have prompted cause for DNA tests, but she has had multiple while here and is 100% human.

There was even one man who had an incredible power. He was able to leave his own body, the avatar he possess in the Psionic plane could exist in real space. His body went comatose while this happened, but his avatar was immune to physical damage, only Psionics could harm it.

‘Miss Duvile must be jumping up and down with joy with this boy going to be attending her classes.’ He couldn’t help thinking before putting down his notes and picking up the next group’s list of names.

As he picked it up, he saw a name that had some impact on him. It was the same man who his nephew acted like a fuckwit to. Yacob had yet to see this ‘blue beast’ that caused his nephew’s brain to turn to a mush blend of poor decision making and called out. “Apollo Lambdason. Come up here.”

After telling Lena to go and sit with Mindy, I got up and walked to the stage. After my last two displays, people were staring. It wasn’t like I was the only one that was flashy, but I guess intrigue just follows me around.

After getting on stage, the teacher, Yacob, walked over to me, ever so slightly hunched and raised his hand for a hand shake. Once I shook his hand he spoke to me in a hushed tone. “Apollo, young man, I heard on enrolment you had an altercation with my nephew about your blue beast? I just want to take this moment to apologise for his actions. I would say he is a good kid… But he was raised by a snively cunt and it rubbed off and stuck. If he ever attempts anything like it again while you are taking my class, you do not hesitate. As family, I have the right to kick his ass if needed.”

I was momentarily confused before I realised what he meant. “Oh that guy! I totally forgot about him. Usually after Orchid punches someone the problem is solved. Yeah don’t worry about it, I’m not one to hold grudges, Sapphire and I are fine after all.”

The guy did only point his weapon at me after all, if it was at Orchid or Janine however…

Yacob smiled, glad. ‘At least not all nobility are stuck up twats. Though I guess we shall see if Valerica’s praise in the teachers lounge is all true, or she is just insane…

“Very well Apollo, I thank you for your maturity on the matter. Now, back to business. Could I see this Sapphire of yours?” He asked, I spotted a twinge of excitement in his eyes. “But of course.” I declared.

“Well?” Yacob asked. “Are you having trouble summoning it?” I shook my head. “No, she is just behind you is all.”

‘Behind me?’ Yacob thought before turning around. As he did, he noticed the shocked gazes of the audience, and once he fully turned around, a giant maw capable of biting his head clean off was directly in front of him, its hot breath warming his face.

“Oh wow. Such marvelous teeth.” he said and actively stuck his head inside of the beast’s mouth. “Not even a single damaged tooth. And look at this tongue! Could scrape the meat clean off my bones if she wanted haha!”

Sapphire just sat there, mouth slightly agape as she looked at her master. Had she lost her touch? People were usually scared when they first saw her, then once they realised she was cutie, she got belly rubs.

Meanwhile, I was more impressed by the teachers’ seemingly lack of survival instincts. Sticking his head into the mouth of a creature so big. That took some serious balls, or a death wish. Perhaps both?

Yacob removed his head from the maw and turned to me and inquired. ” There is a distinct lack of smell coming from her mouth, what do you feed her?”

I shook my head. “I don’t. Sapphire doesn’t require sustenance. The way she is, she just feeds off Psionic energy passively. But she can eat if she feels like it.”

“Fascinating.”

Yacob then turned back around and reached into his pocket and pulled out an extendable toy with a little mouse on the end. He then raised it up to his side and then extended his finger out to Sapphire’s face.

Sapphire looked at the weird metal stick then back at the man confused, waiting for an explanation. “Sapphire, can you follow my finger and ignore the toy?”

“Moo.” She mooed in agreement.

She began doing as the odd man said, following the finger as it went. “Just your eyes please, Sapphire.” The man said. “Moo.” She mooed in understanding.

She followed with just her eyes for a bit longer before the man stopped and rubbed her nose. “Wonderful. Simply wonderful. You are amazing. Sapient for certain. Idiot nephew, of course your power didn’t work on her.”

Yacob then walked away and took some notes while I walked over and gave Sapphire some scritches. “You are doing good.” I reassured her, to which I got a big wet tongue across my face, prompting some laughing from the now less scared group.

Yacob walked back with a clipboard and began writing aggressively. “Sapphire, could you lay down for me so I can get a proper look at you?” He asked politely. “Moo.” She mooed in compliance and lay down, the stage underneath her screaming as it supported her.

Yacob began talking to himself as he began his evaluation. “Muscle mass, extraordinary. They are wider than I am and incredibly compact. Bursting with potential energy at all times.”

“Claws, sharp, individual digits big enough to be considered small swords or large daggers. Lethal and- ouch! Beyond razor sharp.”

“Spikes along back? Seems odd for a predator of her size. Look slightly soft, seemingly used as more of a deterrent.”

Yacob then took a detour from his inspection of this magnificent creature to ask its owner. “Apollo, Sapphire’s planet of origin? Do you know of any creatures that would be her predator in order for her to develop those spikes? They seem out of place for her.”

I took a moment to think over my answer, just to make sure I don’t reveal too much. “Sapphire’s catalyst body was a jungle cat. It wasn’t this big and looked pretty normal, though its claws were incredibly sharp and its legs were insanely strong. It was also an ambush predator. But I can’t tell you more about it, the planet was destroyed a few years ago. It had no spikes though. My power simply brought out ancient potential of the catalyst and made my chonky girl.”

My answer forced Yacob’s eyes to go wide with a mixture of shock, surprise, and elation. “Incredible! Now this is a long shot, but do you know about her body composition at all? I would perform a test myself, but I didn’t bring that equipment with me.”

“Do you mean her atoms? If you do, they are Psionically charged.” I simply said, prompting Yacob to physically stim in delight as his arms started wailing around in excitement. He composed himself quickly afterwards before looking up at Sapphire with a loving gaze.

“Alright, I have seen enough for the evaluation. Anymore and I am going to forget about the other students. Go and take a seat. And thank you for your cooperation Sapphire, I appreciate it.” Yacob said with a smile.

“Moo.” and dipped her head slightly, before turning her attention to me and relayed her intent. “You want to stay out? Sure, just use your smaller form ok?” I asked, receiving another moo before Big chonk turned into little chonk in a blink of an eye. “Mow.”

Yacob closed his eyes for a few moments, pretending he did not just see that incredible change, for the sake of everyone’s time. He was already running behind after all. He was methodical, but if he got interested in that Sapphire again, he wouldn’t be able to stop for the next few hours.

He simply took solace in the fact Apollo had enrolled in his class and would use that opportunity to spend more time studying the amazing creature.
