Chapter 575: “You Can Fly?”

Psionics. Now this was where the party was at. While some people had to opt out of this test as they had no power other than physical enhancement, those that did participate had truly wonderful and unique powers.

Hecate had a portal, or technically a worm hole, above her platform and had a bunch of items on the other side such as target dummies, metal blocks and a myriad of other things students requested. There were even living volunteers for those with non lethal abilities.

I watched as students destroyed the metals with ease, disintegrated and melted the target dummies with lightning and corrosive acid breath just to name a couple. I was fascinated. There was even a fellow Pyrokinetic called Lena that used a molten lava whip which I thought was really cool and would totally not be trying to copy later…

I followed the woman as she went to take her seat and suddenly realised that she had been staring at me the entire time. Even after I looked away she continued to stare at me with this burning intensity.

I didn’t have to guess why she was staring at me though, a little cutie in my Mindspace explained for me. “That would be my doing.” Sol declared. “While she herself cannot tell why her curiosity for you has begun to blossom, her Pyrokinetic Psionics within her body are resonating with my existence. She and all Pyrokinetic on the moon will be feeling a lot more powerful during our residency by simple proximity to the concept Origin, me.”

I was surprised to hear that those that work closely with flame could sense something about me, even if it’s vague. “I wish you told me about this Sol, it’s quite the surprise, despite it making sense.” I thought through our link.

Sol tutted. “Apollo, I am not omnipresent anymore. I am a flawed single bodied existence bound to your Origin and this body. As such I am going to forget things. Besides, my existence is now ablaze with your promise to me. I can barely focus on anything else at this moment.”

I tutted back and shook my head. “Cool it down, Sol.” I thought, jokingly, towards the concept of heat within this universe. In reply all I heard was a seductive giggle of the anthropomorphised fire before my attention was brought back to the Psionics show.

Mindy just got called up and I was excited as I had not seen her eyes in full effect since their change. She asked Hecate for a training dummy and a moment later, one dropped from the portal.

Mindy then took off her glasses and glared at the dummy and its chest began turning into stone. Although Mindy had no visual beams coming from her eyes, but I could tell that where she was looking directly on the dummy was where stone expanded most, though that being said, her petrification effected the entire body and while she was staring at the chest, the dummy’s leg and arms were also turning to stone, though at a much slower rate.

When the entire dummy was encapsulated, Mindy walked over and inspected it for a moment before smiling. With a single tap on the dummy’s right shoulder, the thing crumbled and turned to debris.

A portal then emerged under the rubble of stones and Hecate spoke out softly. “Very good Mindy, be sure to show Yacob that power of yours, he would be very interested.” Mindy nodded and made her way back to my side at which point I praised.

“That was very cool. I noticed that you spread your petrification much quicker now compared to when you encased me. Is it the eyes or just better control of your power?”

Mindy smiled. “A bit of both, but definitely the eyes the most. There is no pressure build up making me want to stop, everything just flows freely. I don’t even feel the need to blink anymore, I only do that due to muscle memory. I would beat anyone here in a staring contest now that is for certain.”

I nudged her playfully. “Yeah, I bet, especially if you begin turning them into stone in the process, that will definitely cause a blink of surprise at the very least.” Mindy scoffed and nudged me back. “Hey I don’t cheat… At games.” She said, before looking away, embarrassed.

Feeling I poked a sore spot, I changed topics. “What do you think this guy’s power is?” I asked and pointed to the guy on the stage now, looking nervous. Mindy looked up and said in surprise. “Oh that’s Ethan, I waited in line next to him during enrolment. He has some teleport power or something. I can’t remember, it’s been a hectic week.

“Teleport?” I murmured, instantly intrigued. If it was anything like the hive’s teleportation or even the way Sapphire can jump around freely in a certain area around me, then that would be incredibly powerful.

The feminine guy on the stage asked for a bunch of dummy’s which he then placed around the stage and once they were all in position, he began teleporting around. I was instantly curious. There was no flash of light, nor no portal like I was familiar with.

The man was simply in one place, then in the next. Poof! He was in another then another. And so on. I locked in on how he moved. How he teleported. And I quickly noticed a flaw in the otherwise very powerful teleportation ability.

“He can only teleport the direction he is facing.” Mindy looked at me for a second after I said that before looking back at the teleporting guy with the red and blue hair.

Sure enough Apollo was right. Mindy watched as once the guy teleported behind a dummy, he had to turn around in order to teleport again. “He is also locked in at five meters flat. Look, he laid the targets out perfectly.”

I listened to what Mindy said and realised she was right, I didn’t spot that part, I was more curious about the ability itself, not the distance it could go. “Good spot, I didn’t see that.” I said honestly.

Mindy felt a warmth in her chest blossom after such a small compliment. With all this Psionic stuff, she still felt completely out of her element. She could not wait for classes to start tomorrow so she could begin to understand all the gibberish everyone said. But the fact that she spotted something that the person who made her capable of Psionics didn’t? That was a boost of confidence she was in dire need of.

The man on the stage continued for a while, but must have gotten exhausted at the prolonged use and took a misstep. The next thing, a dummy exploded outwards and he had a large piece of wood sticking out of his stomach.

The scream of agony forced Hecate to roll her eyes before calling over a medical team. After the man was stabilised and taken to the side for further treatment, she then decided it was time to call on the person that, by some miracle, had more Psionic awakenings than her at such a young age.

“Apollo. You are up, show me what you got.” She said, causing all eyes to turn to me. I sighed before standing up and making my way to the stage. The test was about control, functionality, as much as it was about raw power so I had a few moves I was planning to use. First though.

“Hecate, any chance I can have the no going in the sky rule revoked for this?” I asked, prompting an eyebrow raise from the lady. “You can fly?” She asked, to which I shook my head. “No, but I can jump good and can stay up for quite a while, I can levitate as well, but not in this gravity.”

Hecate pondered for a moment before nodding her head. “Very well, there are no restricted areas in the surroundings so it will be ok, you have my permission.” With the good news, I asked for two large metal cubes and for one to be placed on the grass in front of the stage.

Hecate agreed and the crowd took a few steps back. I then prepared… I began bouncing up and down, like a child playing in muddy puddles. Adjusting my weight to gravity ratio for the trip back down. This was about control after all, I couldn’t just free fall and hurt my knees again.

After a minute of jumping up and down, my bouncing only got ever so slightly higher than before. The crowd was starting to get bored. Hecate, however, could tell exactly what I was planning and was beyond impressed.

‘To do those calculations for his Gyrokinesis on the fly whilst spreading his Psionic aura to the surroundings non invasively… And at such a young age… Valerica might have suggested he was a bit slower in social matters, but he is clearly a genius when it comes to this…’ She thought before continuing.

‘He should be done right about… Now.’ The moment she thought that, Apollo had tensed his legs, physically expanding, before he shot up into the air hundreds of feet high. And all she could think at that moment was.

‘Wow… He can jump good.’

Creation is hard, cheer me up!
