Capítulo 1513: Trust Is Earned

While many of the customers who came in sneered at Karl for being a convict, no more of them willingly challenged him.

The Alchemy Hall was most popular with those who were in the early phases of the Immortal Spirit phase of their growth, and therefore needed resources that were relatively common to make the growth potions, pills, and healing supplements that they needed.

For those who were already among the strongest in the Clan, there wasn’t much they needed other than those basic materials, and it was more cost-effective for them to buy them finished, by trading the loot they got on their outings to the warehouse for Clan Credits.

When they got higher level items that didn’t work for them, they could trade them in for years worth of stuff they did need, it was a simple choice.

Just before dawn, the jingle of the door opening brought Karl out of his meditation, and he opened his eyes to see the Peak Immortal Elder entering the Alchemy Hall reception area.

“I see that you’re working alone already. They must trust you much more than usual.” The Elder began.

“Well, not totally alone. I can’t enter the warehouse, so I’ve still got the runners on duty. What can I help you with this morning, Elder?”

The old man smiled. “I just came to see how the first day of punishment detail had gone for you. New Immortals usually rebel a little when they realize that things don’t work the same as they did in the Mortal World.”

Karl sighed. “Yeah, that one is on me. At home, if I killed someone allied to an idiot who attacked my people, they would just call it a stupidity tax.

The worst part of it is that I actually do have a fine collection of nonlethal methods of dealing with the situation, but I didn’t even think of using them.”

“Because using [Purgatory] and dumping all your mana is more effective when you can regenerate faster than you usually use mana.” The Elder agreed.

“It seems that you have realized your mistake, and you’ve made friends here in the Alchemy Hall. That will work out well for you. What is that under the desk that you’re making?”

Karl held up the mana jade bracelet. “I’ve been working on the technique to saturate the bracelet with Immortal Energy to bring the quality up to Immortal without losing anything from the original creation. It’s been a learning experience.

However, I’m still working on fully forming my Immortal Spirit, so it might just be that the problem is with me.”

“No, it’s the technique. Put it in your inventory to do the upgrade. You can’t express your Immortal Spirit externally at your level, so you have to do it internally, or you just swap the mortal mana for Immortal Energy.

That’s not going to do the job.

Oddly, I sense more than one Immortal Spirit within you. A separate space for your beasts, perhaps?”

Karl nodded. “Indeed, they do have separate spaces linked to me. Their own dens, of a sort.”

“Go ahead and try upgrading the item in your inventory. I have a theory.”

Karl decided it was easier not to ask questions, so he moved the item to his inventory, and focused his Power Matrix on the upgrade process. That was where his soul and power met, so it should be the best point to work from.

Then, he realized that putting it in his inventory blocked it from alteration.

So, he moved it to that odd spot in his mind where the matrix was, and flooded it with pure power.

[Upgrade Complete] [Bracelet of Domination] Mythic ⇒ Immortal 1/50

Karl frowned at the message. Did he only get fifty uses of this ability?

No, when he examined the item, the 1/50 was linked to the item itself. According to the System, there were fifty levels of Immortal items possible. But it was still Epic Quality.

{Bracelet of Domination} Epic Quality. Increases strength by 200 Percent of Modified Base. Increases damage by 100 Percent of base as Physical damage. Reduces mana cost of Skill Activations by 20 Percent. Successful strikes apply [Intimidation].

Karl took out the bracelet and placed it on the counter. “I see how it’s supposed to work now, thank you, Elder.”

The Elder smiled at the item. “Yes, just as I expected, your crafting will not require a fully formed Immortal Spirit. True Runecrafting is a Divine Skill, if you can master it completely and learn the Divine Runes.

So, it doesn’t have to wait for you before it can be utilized.

Dammit, now I owe that dragon for two wagers.”

“I am popular enough that others are making wagers on me already?” Karl asked.

The Elder laughed. “The Chaos Legend, Matilda. I believe that you know her?”

Karl nodded. “Indeed I do. We are Guild members.”

“Before you advanced, we made a wager. One was that you would be able to craft Epic Items before you were Ascended as an Immortal. The second was that you would kill someone your first week here.

We both know that you did the second one, and now you’ve done the first.”

Karl chuckled. “That one is partially your fault, but I would have realized the issue in a day or two. I’ll still have to find a skill or technique to improve my Immortal Spirit, but I was planning to go to the Skill Hall once I finish my shift here in the Alchemy Hall.

As far as punishments go, this one isn’t so bad.”

“That’s because you haven’t realized you can’t go in the dining halls or change outfits until your punishment is over. You do have your Dana Mage to bring you food, so that shouldn’t be too bad.

It’s the ones without true support who suffer the most from the small side effects of the punishment details.

Mostly, I just wanted to see your crafting this morning, and see if you were adjusting well. I don’t think that we will have to worry about you killing any more junior members in the near future, which is a relief.

Being a friend of that Dragon, I was concerned that you would turn out too chaotic to function within an Immortal Realm Clan.”

“Well, I will admit that it’s going to be an adjustment. But if I can still enter the Skill Hall, I can keep up my progress.”

“Not until your punishment is over. But you look comfortable, you should be done within a week. It’s only a hundred hours. You can go to the Warehouse and trade in that amulet if you would like. Or do you have a particular Immortal Warrior in mind?

Perhaps that adorable kitten that is likely to be sleeping next to your wife?”

Karl sighed. He should have known that Nyan would find a way not to be sent away for the night. However, giving her an Immortal bracelet before he gifted one to Dana? Probably not a great idea from a self-preservation viewpoint.

“Perhaps. I’ve still got plenty of time to work before dawn, I’ll make something for my Dana Mage first.”

“Alright. Behave yourself, and I will check on you later. I expect big things of you, Karl the Monster Man.”
