Chapter 407: Unraveling…

Charis

My blood ran cold at the mention of that name.

“Currently, he has six other children with different supernatural creatures, and they are running their father’s legacy. They also have one mission.”

The room fell silent except for the sound of my heart pounding in my ears. I felt Ramsey’s hand find mine.

“We’re in trouble, guys,” Circe concluded.

“Circe,” Kyren broke the silence. “Can you tell us what you know instead of selling the fear first?”

“Sure,” Circe nodded. “So, Xander has children, they’re six of them so far, including this Delia Pier.”

“We know that,” Ramsey said quietly. “That was one of the reasons we needed Lyla to help us confirm that the Hollow Kin were not just seeing wrong, only we don’t know who these children are or the form they have taken.”

“Well, he had these babies with a vampire, a witch, a siren, even a fae and for someone like Xander, who has had evil eaten deep into him, he’s predominantly a Lycan, but the evil he had in him made him different.”

“And you mentioned that they’re all working together?” I asked.

“Yes.” Circe nodded grimly. “More like continuing with what Xander was doing here in the human world while he was alive. He wasn’t just floating or existing, nope, he was fathering his children and training them to take over from him. They have one purpose, one mission, just like he did.”

She opened the handbook in her hand, flipping pages until she stopped at a drawing. It was a crescent moon bisected by a sword.

“This is their insignia, and before I forget, I infiltrated one of their meetings and got this book. Unfortunately, my disguise didn’t work so well, and I was detected, but I escaped.”

“gods! Are you alright?” I went to her instantly.

“I’m fine, my love,” she smiled at me. “A few scratches here and there, but I escaped. They don’t have a picture of me, but I’m sure they must have picked up my scent, so whatever I do, I cannot meet with Delia”

“Sure,” Ramsey nodded. “You were saying something about that symbol…” he pointed to the book.

“Right. Yes. They call themselves ‘The Return’, and from what I’ve read in this handbook, they believe the supernatural world should never have submitted to human laws or integration. They plan to restart the war. They want a purge.”

“That’s strange,” I shook my head. “Xander wanted dominion over our world, not the human world. He wanted to remove every governing system that governed Lycans, especially. He wanted to wipe them out and rule.”

“What is standing between the supernatural taking over the human world?” Circe asked.

“The Hollow Kin, the werewolves, the Lycan,” Kyren said with a contemplative nod. “For years, only our kind have refused to pursue this human wealth. We remain in our world, live in our packs and marry amongst each other. Do you know the Hollow Kin was formed to curtail the excesses of supernatural creatures like Vampires, especially them?”

“Exactly,” Circe nodded. “So, they plan to infiltrate our world. If Xander had thousands of armies, his children have triple that number. They’ve been recruiting curious humans for a while now who think it’s just a cult. You join, they give you everything you need, money, fame… a lot of human celebrities are in on it.”

Ramsey stepped closer. “So, what’s Delia’s role here? I’m guessing she made the broadcast go viral because she wanted to get our attention?”

“Exactly. Those attacks on humans are carried out by their factions. They’re called factions, and they go in groups of a hundred. Each faction has a leader, and for each of the six children, they all have a mother faction which they oversee directly.”

“So, Delia is their bait,” Kyren nodded.

“She’s their pretty, seductive front,” Circe added. “And guess what?”

She pointed to another page with names listed beside birth dates.

“Xander’s children all have different gifts. One controls shadows; his mother was a vampire. Another one can charm with their voice, which is Delia. She’s a Siren-Lycan hybrid. Which means she can seduce both men and werewolves, including Lycans, and still pass as human.”

“Moons!” I whispered, recalling what Kyren had said about her wanting to sleep with Ramsey.

“We’re not just dealing with corrupted humans or Ferals like before,” Circe said. “We’re dealing with a bloodline. We’re dealing with greedy humans who have been turned into something between human and the supernatural. The problem is, we don’t even know what specific were-creatures’ genes were injected into them. So, they’re a bit vampire, fae, werewolf, siren, lycan…and maybe any other creature you can think of.”

She paused for a minute.

“And based on what’s in this book…”

She closed it slowly.

“We’re going to wish we still had Xander as our biggest problem. This—what’s coming—this is going to make everything we’ve survived feel like child’s play, and this is just a hunch…” she trailed off.

“What is the hunch?” Kyren asked.

“I think Lyla is connected to this thing way more than we want to know. I feel that all those times you saw Xander in your dreams, or had interactions with him, he might have embedded some track in you or perhaps made connections. Do you still have dreams about him?”

I lowered my head in shame.

“No, but I did following his death, and they were mostly from when I was younger. When I met him, he was just my classmate.”

“Can you remember any significant thing that happened back then?” Circe asked. “Who did he interact with? I know it’s been a long time, but these individuals have fame, wealth, and connections in every aspect of the human world. No matter who you think you can work with or even a representative that serves as an ambassador here, as long as they’ve lived here for more than one year, chances are, they answer to Delia.”

A frown settled on Kyren’s brow. “Are you saying our representative here has been compromised?”

“Maybe,” Circe shrugged. “Anything is possible.”

Then she turned back to me. “Lyla, do you remember anything about Xander. This group or whatever started way longer before he met you. Delia is a year younger than you. So, Xander has been in the human world for longer, but we need clues…”

“Clues for what? Didn’t you say he has children and they have a mission?”

“I did, but we need to identify all of his plans A and B. Xander knew he was going to die. He knew he wouldn’t have survived you, Lyla. The prophecy made it clear, and he knew he wouldn’t be coming back again. What if there’s a way for him to actually be revived without another Moonsinger being born?”

I stared at Circe, remembering what that attacker said the night she attacked me, asking if I’d forgotten her so soon. The abandoned warehouse with thousands of humans… was this all related?

“Are you saying there’s a way for Xander to come back to life after we killed him?”

“Yes!” Circe nodded. “I think he had to die to end the connection between him and Moonsingers. Do you know what I found out recently about Blood oaths and bindings?”

“What?” I asked.

“They do not actually mean connecting yourself with another person. In an old text that I translated from the ancient tongue, a blood oath was a way to sever all ties with someone entirely. To end an agreement or a pact. It was a two-way thing, and if it is done under a Gemini moon…”

I gasped, covering my mouth with my hand as I staggered backwards, nearly falling to the ground, but Ramsey was fast; he grabbed my waist, pulling me to him.

“Hey, babe, are you alright? Do you need to sit down?”

I shook my head. “The Gemini moon… that was the day Xander tried to make me take the blood oath with him, but we didn’t finish up the process, and we never did.”

“Oh!” Circe paused. “Then it should be fine, then, right?”

“I don’t know,” I sighed, letting Ramsey guide me to the sofa. “Now that I think of it, back when Nanny and I ran Coffee Nook, one day, two women and a man came to see Xander. From the way they talked and related to him, you’d know that they were familiar with each other. I noticed that they were werewolves and felt so put off by the fact that neither Xander nor Mr Dupree had any scent.”

“Did something significant happen that day?” Kyren asked.

“Yes, they came to order a large take-out that would cover 30 to 50 people, and the celebration was the next day, but Nanny told them we couldn’t deliver and directed them elsewhere. That day, there were also Panther shifters, I remember…”

“I sent Panthers to look for you back then, but they always turned up maimed or near death.”

“Those are not Panther shifters, Ramsey,” Circe shook her head. “Shifters are practically humans who dabble in dark magic. Was someone else searching for Lyla?”

“Mr Dupree fought them off, too,” I said excitedly. “They couldn’t have been working together.”

“Enough, guys!” Kyren said quietly, raising his hand. “Enough speculations. Now we know three things: Delia is not working alone; they’re trying to infiltrate our world, and they’ve amassed an army. Good, that’s all we need. Tomorrow, Circe, I want you to meet with Delia.”
