Capítulo 528: Stepping On A Dragon’s Tail
Quinton stood there, with a look of awe and raw fascination. His deep blue eyes roamed across the hall—at the sea of frozen bodies, each person locked in place mid-motion, strands of hair and drifting dust hanging in the still air.
As his eyes fell on Yuuto, who was walking out, he momentarily glanced at Alister, then back to the now frozen Kai.
‘I remember that silver hair. But I swear… he looked a lot more… I don’t know… manly back then.’
His eyes narrowed with an almost mischievous spark.
‘Is he going to go through some kind of… re-awakening or something? Or… is he hiding his true figure?’
Alister then replied to Yuuto’s earlier question.
“Get rid of them.”
And still Yuuto held Alister’s gaze, unblinking.
Then, almost reluctantly, he sighed.
“…Very well.”
Kai’s mismatched eyes, though locked by the frozen time space, managed a subtle shift—dragging painfully to the left. He saw something, and then a small, strained smile ghosted across his lips despite the obvious resistance in every line of his body.
Alister’s golden eyes narrowed.
Yuuto’s own expression twitched in surprise. ‘How is he moving?’
No one else here—besides those he had explicitly permitted—should have been able to so much as blink in this space. And yet… beyond that obvious fact…
A sudden blur of motion darted through the frozen air.
From amid the suspended figures of the crowd, a streak of red hair shot forward—faster than most eyes could track.
It stopped directly behind Yuuto. A firm hand settled on his shoulder.
Yuuto stiffened.
His silver pupils narrowed into dangerous dagger-slits.
His hand began to pulse with mana, as he intended to turn around and instantly erase whoever this hand belonged to.
Slowly, he turned his head—only to freeze… eyes widening with shock.
He saw Ren standing there, his calm face shadowed by something darker.
In Ren’s right hand, a jagged purple crystal pulsed with light.
‘Ren…?’
Yuuto’s thoughts raced.
‘How is he—? He shouldn’t be able to move at all. I didn’t—’
Before Yuuto could demand an answer, Ren leaned in and whispered.
“I’m sorry, Guildmaster…” His grip tightened.
“But you’ll have to come with me… we need to talk.”
A shock of panic threatened Yuuto’s composure—the crystal’s aura was menacing, vulgar, like something pulled from the depths of the abyss itself.
And then it detonated with a silent pulse of dark energy.
The space around Yuuto and Ren warped, colors bending in impossible ways. A sphere of shifting violet light swallowed them whole, imploding on itself with a soft pop—and both men were gone.
Teleported.
Just like that, the hall regained its color as time continued moving once more.
Alister’s eyes slowly widened, then darkened into a dangerous golden-red glow. His killing intent rose mildly, like a pressure wave.
“…Ren, you fool…”
Just then, Kai began to chuckle softly, then suddenly threw his head back and let out a laugh—sharp, amused, almost delighted.
All around the hall, heads swiveled, expressions tightening in confusion. Murmurs broke out instantly.
“Why is he laughing…?”
“Wasn’t he just in the middle of making some grave announcement?”
“Is this some kind of twisted joke?”
On the broadcast airship, Kael leaned forward, mouth half open. “Did he just… start laughing in the middle of outing the Dragon Lord?”
Lana’s eyes narrowed. “Something’s off. Look at his face—he’s enjoying this.”
Down on the main floor, Eryx of the Blue Seals frowned deeply. “What in the world is this clown playing at now?”
Aria’s fingers tapped lightly on her armrest, lips pursed. “He seems far too comfortable. Something feels very wrong about this.”
Even Cheng Zhi raised a brow, muttering under his breath, “Cheeky bastard…”
Kai eventually calmed, wiping an imaginary tear from the corner of one mismatched eye. He grinned wide, flashing teeth at the entire gathering.
“Ah… where was I?” he drawled, voice dripping with mock innocence. “Oh, yes.”
He pointed lazily toward Alister on the dais.
“Our delightful Alister here—is the very one responsible for what happened to the Reapers raid team.”
Gasps erupted. Dozens of heads jerked around, eyes flying back to Alister. Shock and uncertainty spread like wildfire.
And Kai’s grin only widened further, until it was nearly feral. He snapped his fingers.
“Roll the clip.”
Across every towering screen in every megacity, the footage began to play.
It was raw. Unedited. Brutal.
The cameras had caught everything—from the hauntingly smooth way Alister’s body had shifted, twisted, his very silhouette darkening and elongating as scales and claws overtook human flesh—to the monstrous form he’d taken.
Then it showed the Reapers raid team. How they had drawn weapons, shouted, prepared.
Only to be slaughtered.
Alister moved like a specter of death itself, cutting down seasoned S-class hunters as if they were mere children. Blood, screams, the cracking of bones under claws and tail—it all played out in excruciating detail, broadcast to millions.
The entire hall seemed to draw in a collective, horrified breath.
On the broadcast airship, Kael was practically out of his seat, gripping the console with white knuckles. “Gods above… he’s a monster. An actual monster. That’s it—he’s done. His reputation’s finished.”
Lana sat frozen, eyes wide, lips parted. Then she finally managed, “No… no, this can’t be. There has to be an explanation, some manipulation—”
Kael turned on her, face red with outrage. “Are you blind, Lana? Look at it! He tore them apart with his own claws. That’s your savior? That’s the one you said we needed to trust?”
She clenched her jaw, struggling. “I—I don’t know… maybe it’s all orchestrated…”
“Stop deluding yourself!”
“Maybe this is exactly what he wanted us to see… Maybe he is a monster.”
Kael let out a breath. “Congratulations. You finally see it.”
Back in the hall, Kai was grinning from ear to ear, drinking in the rising chaos like the finest wine.
“Ah,” he sighed, voice rich with delight. “Music to my ears. What do you think, Alister? Your pretentious reputation—completely ruined. The great protector of the people… reduced to nothing but a blood-drenched beast on every screen.”
For the briefest heartbeat, Alister’s expression darkened, shadow falling across his golden eyes. The murmurs in the hall sharpened into shouts.
“Explain yourself!”
“Is this why you want power—to use us like that?”
“How many more secrets are you hiding, Dragon Lord?”
