Chapter 593: It doesn’t change anything between us, does it?
After they discussed all the issues, Idan released Felicia. When he was alone with Irene, he took out the “Threads of the One Blood” artifact and handed it to her.
“What is this?” asked Irene in surprise, curiously examining the artifact.
As soon as she picked it up, her own system immediately produced a description. After reading it, she trembled with intense shock and excitement, looking at Idan with disbelief.
“This is…” she stammered.
“Yes, with the help of this artifact, we can finally find out Adam’s fate,” Idan confirmed.
Irene, overcome with emotion, did not notice how Idan stopped calling Adam father, but addressed him by name.
“Have you checked yet?” she asked.
“No,” — Idan shook his head.
Irene’s hands were shaking with excitement. She made a small incision on her finger and dripped blood onto the artifact crystal.
The crystal flashed with a bright red light, and three red threads began to appear from it.
“Huh?” exclaimed Irene, surprised to find no clue leading to Idan among them.
Instead, two threads stretched towards the Stone family’s territory located outside the capital, and one small red thread went up and broke.
“Hmm… These two definitely point to Ivette and your son Aran,” Idan remarked. “But what is this third thread? Really…”
“Idan, wait…” interrupted Irene, puzzled. “Why isn’t there a red thread pointing at you?”
“Because I’m not your real brother, Irene. I’m your cousin,” Idan confessed, which surprised her a lot. She staggered slightly and sank into a chair.
“But how?” asked Irene, having lost interest in the artifact from shock.
“My birth mother is your mother’s older sister, sister…” Idan began. Under his sister’s gaze, he briefly recounted what Ivette had told him.
Irene listened in silence without interrupting him, still in a state of shock.
When Idan finished his story, Irene asked:
“You found out about it that day, didn’t you?”
“Yes,” Idan nodded.
Irene closed her eyes to process what she had heard. She couldn’t believe that the man she had always considered her younger sibling turned out to be her cousin.
However, no matter how hard Irene tried to imagine, she couldn’t see Idan as anyone else in her life other than as a younger brother. She opened her eyes and looked at Idan.
“It doesn’t change anything between us, does it?” she asked.
“Well, not on my part. You will always be my big sister,” Idan said with a smile. Seeing this smile, Irene also smiled, realizing that Idan had not changed and remained the same younger brother she had known all her life.
“For me, you will always be my slightly sullen and troubled younger brother,” Irene said, and they exchanged smiles.
Only then did Irene notice that the artifact had already stopped working.
She stared at the artifact thoughtfully, taking her time to activate it again.
Despite her shock, Irene remembered seeing only three red threads.
“What do you think of the threads?” she asked.
“The two who were pointing at the same place are undoubtedly Ivette and your son,” Idan said, and Irene silently nodded in agreement with him. It was only now that she noticed that Idan had already called their mother by her first name, and not just “mom.”
“But the third thread makes you think,” Idan continued, not fully understanding who she was pointing at.
“The description of the artifact says that it recognizes and points only to the closest relatives,” Irene noted.
“I understand,” Idan nodded. “If Ivette, you, or Adam have no other children, then there is a high probability that the third thread points to Adam.”
Irene frowned.
“I’m sure my parents don’t have any other children…” she said with confidence, but her voice trailed off at the end. She had just found out that her younger brother was her cousin, and now she was beginning to wonder if there might be someone else.
“System, please don’t be silent and explain why this thread was a bit strange?” begged Idan.
But there was no response from the System, and Idan sighed in disappointment.
Irene made another incision and dripped blood into the artifact to take another look at the threads.
As soon as the blood fell on the crystal, the artifact shone.
As before, three threads appeared. Two of them pointed to the Stone family’s territory, and one stretched vertically upwards and ended.
Idan focused on the thread again, and the longer he looked at it, the more convinced he became that it was Adam’s thread.
“I’m sure this thread points to your father Adam, sister,” he said.
“Really? Do you think so?” Irene started thinking too, and of course she wanted it to be like that.
“Yes, I’m sure,” Idan repeated, wanting to give his sister hope.
“But this thread is a bit strange,” he added. “She’s pointing straight up.”
“Indeed. It’s like the father is out there somewhere, in the sky above us, but that can’t be true,” Irene said, agreeing with Idan.
“Or it means he’s not in this world,” Idan muttered, sharing his speculation.
Soon, time ran out, and the artifact went out again, and with it the threads disappeared.
Irene stared at the artifact in silence, but soon a smile appeared on her face.
“At least it looks like he’s alive,” she said, adding confidently, “If that’s the case, we’ll find him sooner or later.”
“You’re right. If Adam is alive, we will definitely find him,” Idan agreed.
Irene, slightly encouraged, handed the artifact back to Idan and asked curiously:
“Have you used this artifact to find your father yet?”
Idan’s hand, which was already reaching for the artifact, trembled slightly.
“Yes, I checked it out,” he replied, noticing his sister’s interest, and decided to share his discovery.
“What, six threads?” Irene was surprised. Like Idan, she quickly realized the situation and came to the same conclusion as him.
“Okay, when you get to this town tomorrow, call me, I’ll come with you,” she suggested.
“Will you come with me?” Why do you need it? Idan was surprised.
“I wasn’t lying when I said you’d always be my little brother to me. So if these threads really point to your other siblings, I want to see them,” Irene said, and her voice sounded like she wouldn’t accept rejection.
“Your brothers and sister, and my brothers and sisters too,” Irene added, and Idan was speechless.
He has not yet fully understood how to treat those to whom these threads point, but his sister has already determined her position.
