Chapter 778: Beast Taming in Vermilion Kingdom
From his balcony, Nox saw the familiar golden flying carriages with the insignia of the Vermilion Kingdom.
A brief gleam of surprise and confusion flickered across his eyes. This visit came as quite the surprise because he wasn’t expecting anyone.
Then a part of him was also worried… Vermilion and Cromwell were allies and had almost a sibling-like relationship, as both were once a single kingdom before the split.
Yet who knew if the recent surge of Beast Tamers had rubbed them wrongly? He could never tell. But one thing he could tell was that they were not here for a fight since it was only a single carriage.
“Why could they be here?” Serena, who was practicing her archery just behind the castle, paused and raised her head.
Beside her stood Akira. For some reason, she had grown quite close to Serena, though even then, there was a silent competition between them.
After all, both were interested in Nox… in a way, each kept a close eye on the other, just like the saying: keep your friends close and your rivals closer.
“Do you think it’s because of the new class?” Serena asked, her brows creasing softly in concern.
Akira didn’t speak immediately. She stared at the carriage, recognizing its style from the war. “They’re not here for a fight, that’s for sure. But we can’t know anything standing here… come on, let’s go check it out.”
With that, they abandoned what they were doing and sprinted toward the courtyard where the carriage was descending.
When they arrived, familiar faces were already gathered—Nathan, Nyx, Jack, and a few core officials of the kingdom.
From the carriage, a beautiful girl in a pristine white robe stepped out elegantly, flanked by two guards on both sides. The guards were helmeted, making their facial features hard to discern, but their eyes were sharp as hawks.
Nox recognized the girl instantly. It was none other than Princess Ria of the Vermilion Kingdom, the youngest sister of King Adrian.
“Welcome to Cromwell Kingdom. I didn’t think we would see each other so soon again.” Nox smiled warmly as she closed the distance between them.
“Me either,” Ria returned the smile. “Initially, my brother wanted to come personally, but I was curious to see how much you’ve progressed. I must say, the pace at which this kingdom is sharpening up is impressive.”
That was all thanks to the ants… relentless and tireless. They were the true backbone behind the kingdom’s rapid recovery.
After a few more exchanges, Nox led her to a meeting room. It was massive, with a wide grey oak table and rows of chairs. For now, only Nox and Ria were inside—he felt the others didn’t need to be present for this.
Once they were alone, Ria straightened and cleared her throat. In a firm voice, she spoke:
“I’ll cut the long talks and go straight to the point.”
Nox nodded, his expression turning serious as he leaned back slightly.
Seeing that she had his full attention, Ria continued, “My brother has seen potential in this new class. He personally sent me here to ask if there’s a way to place a statue of this new god in the Vermilion Kingdom as well.”
Silence stretched for several seconds… then a slow smile spread across Nox’s face.
He had envisioned several scenarios, but none like this. If he were in another king’s shoes, he would feel a bit threatened. Yet King Adrian openly embraced the idea without needing any convincing. That was a very welcoming development.
“During the war, we saw how efficient your pets were—especially the ants. My brother believes they were one of the reasons we won,” she added, the smile still resting gently on her face.
“You’re right. They’re also the reason rebuilding the kingdom has been so easy. Not only that, they helped maintain order as well.” Nox didn’t miss the chance to praise his loyal ants.
“I noticed,” Ria replied. On her way here, she’d seen dozens of ants moving around as if it were completely normal. She found it fascinating and couldn’t help imagining the same thing in Vermilion.
Cromwell had taken huge damage during the war, yet the beast-powered manpower erased the scars quickly.
The same couldn’t be said for Vermilion.
Nox noticed the faint exhaustion hidden beneath Ria’s smile.
He had seen it before.
Vermilion had won the war… but the cost was brutal. Their capital still bore deep scars—half-collapsed houses, broken towers, fields burned barren.
Compared to that, Cromwell already looked like a rising kingdom.
All thanks to the ants.
Nox folded his arms calmly, hiding a small grin. “So… Vermilion wants to welcome the Beast Tamer statue?”
Ria nodded. “Yes. My brother ordered me to deliver that message personally. We want the statue… and we want to support the spread of the class.”
Nox tapped his finger lightly on the table. “What’s the condition?”
“None.”
That answer stunned him for a moment. His eyes narrowed slightly—not in suspicion, but surprise.
A king asking for power without demanding something in return?
Rare. Almost unheard of.
But with quick thought, he realized the truth—the Beast Tamer class benefited everyone, not just elites. It wasn’t like swordsmanship or magic that required talent.
Anyone could awaken it.
Anyone could bond with a creature.
Anyone could grow.
If Vermilion spread the class… their military strength would skyrocket.
Their economy would recover faster.
Their destroyed districts would rebuild themselves.
Of course a king as sharp as Adrian would see that.
“…I understand now,” Nox said, leaning forward with a small chuckle. “It’s a smart move. Beast Tamers are the fastest way to rebuild what was lost. I still have a spare statue tucked away somewhere… though it might need a bit more praying for it to work since the divinity inside is a bit fickle. But it will suffice.”
