Chapter 769: Temple Construction
Above the sea, Zarek stood calmly on the ship deck, watching the vast blue expanse of water. His blindfold was securely fastened around his eyes; however, it appeared as if he could still see the waters.
It had been days since Nox and Dorran descended into the ocean. Like before, there had been an uproar among the crew members, and some had even suggested going down there to look for them.
Of course, no one was daring enough to enter the ocean — not one filled with powerful sea creatures and dangerous sentient beings who wouldn’t hesitate to impale their hearts with tridents.
Just when the crew was growing restless, there was movement in the waters. Zarek, who had remained standing like a statue all this while, finally stirred when he spotted a slight ripple on the ocean’s surface.
His eyes narrowed slightly. He was the first to notice it, but when the disturbance became more noticeable, the others stood on their feet, alert. They gripped their weapons and activated their various magical skills.
“Is it the same monsters?” one asked nervously.
“No… that thing’s much larger. It’s probably a giant sea creature,” another replied.
Zarek didn’t comment, simply watching. Then, the head of the creature popped out — followed by the rest of its massive body.
“Woah… what is that?”
“Wait… I remember it! Isn’t that one of Master Nox’s pets!?”
“What’s that thing it’s holding onto?”
“It’s… it’s the statue they went down to retrieve!”
“Hahaha, finally!”
“I can’t wait to go home!”
Australux’s giant tentacles were wrapped tightly around Tera’s statue. Under the stunned gazes of the crew and Zarek, the jellyfish gently approached the ship, startling them even further.
It was difficult to maintain composure while a massive monster hovered above them — one that could crush them into paste with a single strike.
“Make room for the statue!” Zarek spoke calmly, but his voice somehow carried across the entire deck.
The men quickly cleared a section of the deck. Australux, being intelligent, seemed to understand immediately. She gently placed the statue down, resting it against the wooden boards.
Afterwards, her form gradually shrank until she looked like the same cute, adorable jellyfish that could melt even the coldest of hearts.
Moments later, Nox and Dorran broke through the surface. When the crew saw them, a wave of relief washed over everyone.
“Shii, I’m never trying that again!” Dorran cursed the moment he stepped onto the ship. He was shivering — being underwater for that long definitely had its drawbacks.
A blanket was quickly handed to him.
Compared to the trembling Dorran, who looked as though he had just stepped out of a deep freezer, Nox appeared completely fine — almost too fine. His dark hair was slightly damp, but his composure didn’t falter even for a second. He stepped onto the deck with calm, steady strides as if he hadn’t just spent days beneath the crushing depths of the sea. His eyes swept across the relieved faces of the crew.
“You all did well,” Nox said lightly. “No one panicked. That’s good.”
No one panicked? They were one step away from throwing themselves into the sea if not for fear itself. Still, it was good that he thought that way — it might earn them even more trust later on.
The men straightened their backs, some trying to hide their trembling arms while others looked at him with awe.
“Sir, we were just worried! The sea’s been restless since you went down there,” one of them said.
“It was nothing. We were perfectly fine. There’s nothing to worry about — but at the same time, I appreciate your concern,” Nox replied.
Zarek’s gaze was fixed on the statue the entire time. He then turned toward Nox and spoke. “Now that you’ve gotten what we came for, I think it’s time we leave.”
Nox nodded faintly. “Agreed. We’ve stayed in these waters long enough. Prepare the ship — we’re returning to Cromwell.”
“Yes, Lord!” the crew responded in unison, their voices echoing with renewed energy.
As the men rushed about adjusting the sails and tightening the ropes, the sea breeze shifted, sweeping over the deck and carrying the faint scent of salt and magic. The once-turbulent ocean had begun to calm — almost as if it, too, acknowledged the completion of their task.
Zarek’s blindfold fluttered in the wind as he turned back toward the horizon. “The ocean’s energy feels… quieter. Whatever you did down there worked.”
“Yes, it did.” Nox nodded simply, not delving further into the topic. His mind was still processing everything — the Scourge Queen’s involvement in the sea and the human continent…
Hours later, the sun dipped low across the ocean. The ship glided smoothly over the waves, its sails gleaming gold under the dying light. Dorran had fallen asleep against a barrel, while Australux floated lazily near Nox’s shoulder in her smaller form, occasionally pulsing with soft blue light.
By dawn, the horizon shimmered with the faint glow of land. The silver towers of Lumina Bay, belonging to the Cromwell Kingdom, pierced through the morning mist. Their beacons pulsed gently, drawing cheers from the weary sailors.
“Land ahead!”
“Hahaha, finally!”
“For a moment, I thought we’d never see land again!”
Their excitement was valid — in just a few days, they had risked their lives countless times.
‘It wasn’t even that life-threatening,’ Nox thought, believing they were being far too dramatic for people who called themselves sailors.
As the ship neared the docks, banners of blue and silver fluttered in the wind. Soldiers and workers under Aina’s command stood in formation, clearly informed of their arrival.
“Lower the sails!” the ship captain commanded. “And prepare the statue for presentation!”
Australux extended a few of her tiny glowing tendrils, helping steady the massive figure as the ship docked. When the gangway dropped, the gathered crowd gasped at the sight of the enormous statue. Many were curious and clearly had questions, but none dared to speak up.
The statue was soon placed into a long caravan pulled by powerful, armored horses.
“Where to, milord?” the coachman asked.
“To the Capital!” Nox declared.
The first phase of building the Temple of Beast Taming had already begun!
