Chapter 767: The Scouge Queen

Nox’s gaze bore down on Kaelen, who swallowed nervously, trying his best to avoid those piercing, intense dark eyes.

Although he didn’t want to speak, there was something compelling about that gaze; he felt as if even if he tried to lie, the land walker would somehow see through him.

The former spawn of the Scourge Queen gritted his teeth, and after several seconds, his lips parted slowly.

“Go ahead, ask your question. I’ll tell you everything I know,” he said with a bitter expression.

Nox gave a subtle nod, half pleased at how smoothly everything was going. It was quite refreshing to have an enemy confess everything without resorting to torture.

In the past, he’d had to resort to torture most times—hence why this moment felt oddly satisfying.

“Okay,” he said. “My first question… how did you meet the Scourge Queen?”

There was a brief silence as everyone watched in anticipation. King Thalasar’s eyes narrowed, while the two princesses folded their arms beneath their generous chests, watching with sharp gazes.

As for Dorran, he was oblivious to most of this. The Scourge Queen… corruption… he knew nothing about it. All he knew was that this person had once been the spawn of a powerful, unbeatable existence.

“She came to me,” Kaelen began, his eyes blank. “One day, I was swimming alongside the other devotees in the southern plains when we suddenly sensed a strange disturbance close to the shores.”

“At first, I ignored it… but then I felt a strange pull. Things happened so fast that I didn’t even know when I blindly followed it to the site of the disturbance. Upon arriving, I saw the most beautiful woman I had ever seen in my entire life.”

“She was surrounded by shadows and corrupted energy, and her gaze… her gaze seemed to hold a charm of its own.”

Everyone listened attentively. For some reason, they could easily picture everything he described—especially Nox, who had come face to face with the Scourge Queen himself.

He could never forget her face… it was simply impossible.

“I can sense your anger and determination,” the Scourge Queen had spoken softly, her voice strangely pleasant and seeming to melt the bones of all those unfortunate enough to hear it.

“You want to be a ruler, don’t you?” she smirked. “You want to turn the sea people into your slaves.”

Kaelen nodded.

“Very well then, how about we make a trade?” she suggested, her smile devilish and knowing.

It wasn’t as if he didn’t want to speak—Kaelen was trapped. The Scourge Queen was simply leading him on, stating everything he secretly desired as if she could read him like a book.

How could someone wield such power?

Right at that moment, she had outstretched her slim, dainty hand and placed it upon his head.

“Your task is to infect the ocean, starting from your kingdom and then expanding to the neighboring ones. You will become the king of the oceans, however…” A dangerous light flashed across her face. “However, you’ll be my personal pawn.”

…

As he listened to Kaelen’s words, Nox couldn’t help but fall into deep thought. Aquaria was located in the human domain—fondly referred to as the Far West. So… did that mean she had stepped into the human continent?

A chill crawled through his spine. Not only that, but from the story, he also realized one painful fact.

The Scourge Queen was not just ancient; she had aged with knowledge and information that not even many humans knew about.

Because how else could she easily lure a sea devotee? And it wasn’t her first time either—she had clearly made attempts on Thalasar as well.

Nox’s brows furrowed slightly as he processed Kaelen’s words. The room fell into uneasy silence again.

He waited until Kaelen finished speaking before saying, “So, she approached you first… and manipulated you with promises of power.”

Kaelen nodded stiffly. “It was unlike anything I ever felt… I couldn’t control it. I thought the corruption was a blessing from the abyss—that it would make me stronger than the Sea King himself. But once I accepted it, she marked my soul.”

His voice trembled slightly. “The infection spread through my veins before I could even scream. After that… her voice never left my head.”

Nox’s eyes narrowed. “Her voice?”

Kaelen looked at him with a hollow expression. “Yes. Even when I slept, I could hear her whispering. She called me her ‘child of the deep.’ Every night, she spoke about her plans for the surface world—how the seas would rise and swallow the land, how the skies would blacken under her will.”

Dorran’s grip tightened around the reins of his pet grim. “You mean… she intends to destroy the human continent?”

‘No.’ Nox thought inwardly, his expression dark. ‘She wants to turn the human continent into another Scourge Zone… just like the Dragon Realm.’

But he didn’t say this aloud.

Kaelen slowly shook his head. “No… not destroy.” He looked down, eyes filled with dread. “She wants to remake it.”

That statement made everyone tense. What did she mean by remake?

“Remake?” Thalasar’s deep voice rumbled. “Explain.”

Kaelen bit his lip, hesitating. “The Scourge Queen… she believes the gods abandoned this world and claims the land itself is dying because of them. Her goal is to corrupt the seas of the human continent, turning all sea creatures into her pawns—and eventually, the very air itself.”

“When both mundanes and Awakened try to breathe this mana, they’ll be corrupted.”

Dorran’s expression hardened. “That’s… madness.”

He imagined a world where there were only mindless puppets serving her, and he couldn’t help but shudder.

The same thought passed through the minds of the others, sending chills down their spines.

Nox’s frown deepened; his lips parted once again as he asked, “And how far has she reached?”

Before Kaelen could answer, his body suddenly stiffened. His pupils dilated, and his breath hitched. Nox instantly sensed something was wrong.

Dark mist began seeping from Kaelen’s mouth and eyes—thick, oily tendrils that crawled across his skin.

“Again?” Nox muttered sharply. He unleashed a burst of light energy, but the mist didn’t retreat—it fought back.

Kaelen let out a strangled scream before collapsing. His body turned pale, eyes glazing over as the darkness consumed him.

Everyone froze.

“…Impossible,” Nox whispered. He had personally expelled all traces of corruption from Kaelen earlier. “This shouldn’t be happening.”

The mist evaporated a moment later, leaving only Kaelen’s lifeless form.

Nox stepped closer, kneeling beside him and inspecting the body carefully. There were no external wounds, only faint traces of dark energy coiled around his heart.

“She killed him,” he mumbled to himself, recognizing the pattern all too well.

But there was something even more troubling.

The Scourge Queen had set her eyes upon the human continent.
