Chapter 735: A Stronger Alley

Within the far west, in the desert with towering dunes of sand, a single figure in a dark cloak could be seen walking all alone.

That figure came to a stop before an open space with nothing in sight; it was just an expanse of nothing.

The ground trembled as if an earthquake was about to occur; however, the cloaked figure seemed to have gotten used to this phenomenon and didn’t panic.

She simply stood still.

After some time, there was an opening just a few meters away from her, and a figure emerged from there.

That figure wore the attire of Flaming Rose and had a bold number 30 written on it.

“State your purpose?” Number 30 started, his voice unfriendly. Although he was covered from head to toe, it was quite easy to tell he was male due to the way his voice sounded.

“I was sent by the Queen, and I’d like to meet Number 1.” A strong yet feminine voice replied.

When Number 30 heard this, his body stiffened slightly. From his reaction, one could tell the mere mention of the Queen struck some nerves.

And now his arrogance had faded away quickly.

Without saying a word, the cloaked figure stepped aside. “This way,” he said.

The cloaked woman nodded and stepped forward. The two went down a flight of stairs and soon arrived at empty hallways with no one present.

This was the first time the cloaked woman was coming here, so she was clueless and only depended on the hooded man to guide her.

She wasn’t scared that the hooded man could do something funny, as she didn’t sense any ill intent from him.

The two would take the next couple of minutes to walk the empty hallway that seemed unending.

A tight frown appeared on the woman’s face; it almost seemed as if they were walking in circles with no definite goal in mind.

“I told you to take me to Number 1, why are we moving in circles!” she asked, her tone unamused.

“We have not been walking in circles, miss,” Number 30 replied, his tone soft. “Though it might appear so, it’s really not… instead this is one of our various security measures.”

“I see… such a hurdle.” She sighed under her breath.

Some time later, Number 30 paused before a pair of heavy iron doors set into the tunnel wall. The doors were etched with the symbol of a rose wreathed in flames. He placed a hand on the cold metal surface, and with a low rumble, the doors began to part.

“We’re here,” he said quietly, stepping aside to allow the cloaked woman through. She took a breath and moved past him, entering the heart of the Flaming Rose’s headquarters.

Inside was a spacious room lit by a crimson glow. Torches lined the walls, their flames dancing beneath glass sconces shaped like blooming roses. At the far end of the chamber was a raised dais, upon which stood a black marble table.

Seated at the head was the leader of the Flaming Rose – Number 1.

Number 1 sat on the black marble chair, the crimson glow outlining his massive frame. His sheer size made the seat seem almost too small, like a cage straining to contain him. Broad shoulders hunched forward, his thick arms resting heavily on the armrests, and his crimson eyes glowed faintly in the dim light.

The cloaked woman halted a few steps away, lifting her gaze to meet his. Even though she had braced herself on the way in, the pressure rolling off him was far heavier than she expected.

‘It’s the same level as Queen Mother.’ the woman gasped subconsciously. Even meeting this person’s gaze was a hassle for her.

Meanwhile, Number 30 bowed deeply and said in a voice filled with reverence, “Leader, this envoy claims to be sent by the Queen.”

“Is it about the recent failure?” Number 1 asked, leaning back in his seat. His voice was not only deep, it was authoritative and seemed to make everyone want to listen to it.

The cloaked woman slowly pulled her hood back, revealing sharp features and pale blue eyes. She clasped her hands together and bowed faintly before replying. “I carry the Queen’s decree. The Lich Court has decided to sever its partnership with the Flaming Rose.”

Silence.

There wasn’t much of a reaction on Number 1’s face, almost as if he had expected it—which wasn’t wrong, actually.

“I expected this,” Number 1 spoke, standing up on his feet.

Now that he was standing, the witch from the Lich Court gasped. He was like a human giant, easily eight feet in height.

How can a human be this massive? What sort of genetics caused this?

There were lots of questions passing through the envoy’s mind, her heart pounding fiercely against her chest.

‘I should have not insisted on taking this mission, this bastard… what is he going to do now?’ she thought, feeling like an ant before the massive human.

Those listless cold eyes were staring directly at her, as if they could strip away every layer of defense she had. Her pale lips trembled, but she quickly bit them shut.

“You dare… come here with that message?” Number 1’s voice rolled through the chamber like thunder.

The envoy clenched her fists. “I only carry the Queen’s decree. Whether you accept it or not is irrelevant. The pact between the Lich Court and Flaming Rose is finished.”

A deep chuckle rumbled from Number 1’s chest. It was slow, heavy, and mocking. “Finished? No. I ended it long before you stepped into my hall.”

Her eyes widened. “What—?”

Number 1 stepped down from the dais. Each stride he took shook the floor beneath them, his sheer weight and presence crashing down like a storm. “The Queen thinks herself indispensable. But tell me, envoy… why should we need you anymore? We already have stronger allies.”

“Stronger…?” Her breath caught. “Who?”
